I'm looking forward to helping get as many kids to go as possible. I was wondering how a Scout that is currently a Bear going to be able to attend. you must be 1st class, 12 years old by July 1st, 2010 or finished the 6th grade. If Im not mistaken, Aren't Current Bears in the 3rd grade making them 8 or 9. by July 1st 2010, they will be 10 -11 and have finished the 5th grade. ??????????//

All of the Cub Scout training is wrapped all into one week. I think it will be like a round robin, so you'll get something different each day.

FYI, in a pilot program this year, all leaders such Cubmaster, asst Cubmaster, Scoutmaster asst Scoutmaster, den leaders, etc in 13 councils will automatically receive an invitation to attend.

I attended Philmont Training last year. My 6 year old daughter and 10 year old son LOVED IT. I asked if they would rather go to Disney or Philmont this year. Without hesitation PHILMONT. My wife attended NOT camping a day in her life, not to mention she was diagnosed with cancer last March and was undergoing chemotherepy. She Loveed it and before we even left Philmont. I got this. Gonzo1, did you ever get a chance to find the text that says the knots can be worn to the left or right and NOT centered like the insignia guide clearly shows? If they intended that a single knot or two knots in a row were to be worn to the left or right, they would have pictured it that way and not referenced the photo and stated "as pictured" and the picture clearly shows knot centered over the pocket, not to the left or right. The insignia guide shows each row centered. Thanks

As I recall, the Sea Badge knots are actually 3 separate knots, 1 for Completing Sea Badge 1 for staffing Sea Badge 1 for Sea Badge Course director for a total of 3 different knots.

Gonzo1, wish I could agree, but it is plain as day as to what the insignia guide says and plane as day that the single knot shown is centered. Check it out. Please reference your findings, I'd like to check it out. I'll have to go and check to see what the 2007 insignia guide both says and shows, as I do not have a copy of that with me right now. Eamonn & Fscouter. Well, its "knot" what I heard, it's what it says on page 51 of the 2005 insignia guide. May I direct your attention to the last sentence in the paragraph on the bottom left of the page. "Other knots are worn as pictured on this page." Then if you look at the picture located at the center top of that page, you will see an example with 4 knots, a row of three and the 4th centered. Then there are those knot wearer's, and i think its safe to say MOST knot wearers that I see don't wear them properly, for example someone with 5 knots, a row of three, then the row of 2. That row of two is supposed to be centered over the row of three. Bugs me when I see the row of two either to the right or the left. It's like they are expecting another knot to finish their row.

The Silver Beaver is for any volunteer rendering service to a large number of youth at Council level. Meaning more that just your unit and more than just your district. Thanks Longhaul, however the tern axle is not indicitive of whether it is a 1 piece solid axle which we all know is not from the BSA Kit or the stock nails which are 2 separate pieces, also called axles. I've come to realize that the aftermarket nickle plated axles generally have either blunt tips, or machined points. The BSA axles are found to have chisel points. If the axle slots are used you may be able to see the tips. If you can't see the tips, it may be very difficult to determine without pulling the axle.

What would you do if you suspect a parent has used nickle plated axles for the car. Our rules state official BSA Axles only. How can one prove it? How can you tell with the axles installed in the car? Thank you.

There is a difference between "earning" the Eagle and being awarded the Eagle Badge. Once you pass the BOR and the Scout Exec Signs the documents, you have earned your Eagle. They say this guy is the oldest to ever have earned Eagle, I'd be willing to bet there are others that are older that hold that rank. It should have been stated that he was the oldest to have been awarded the rank, not earned the rank. Also, any male over 18 may join Boy Scouts as a youth if they meet the requirements as stated in the current advancement publication if they are permantely disabled. Just a FY

The knots have been available for a long time. Why would they only be given out at an annual District dinner. Knots are awarded to leaders every month at our round tables. (This message has been edited by GNX Guy)
