  1. The knots have been available for a long time. Why would they only be given out at an annual District dinner. Knots are awarded to leaders every month at our round tables. Joe
  2. How about this........ http://www.hbscomputers.com/scoutgiftwrapping2006/ Just coordinated wrapping approx 800 + presents for approximately 800 special needs (mentally and physically challenged) individuals. We are hosting a Christmas party tommorrow with music and dancing and lunch. Most of these folks do not have any family and live in group homes. Just one of the many things our Council participates in. Cost is in excess of $20,000 and is paid for by a local mens organization that enriches the lives of those that are mentally and physically disabled. If you'd like more de
  3. Just wondering how many folks will use their invitation to Philmont for training this coming summer. I am, got my invitation yesterday, can't wait. My kids are excited to.
  4. Gonzo1 I quoted your post and you did say that 1st and 2nd year Cub and Boy Scout Leaders don't have enough experience. Also, I said "when I was in Boy Scouts", ie. I was a kid in the program and got my Eagle. I did not say When I was a Boy Scout Leader. Thank you for your Military service, I too had a very special assignment, to the Pentagon, OCSA Army 3C509, Was assigned to the Chief of Staff of the Army, 4 Star, General Wickam. My Roomate was the Command Sergeant Major of the Army's Assistant. We both lived at Ft. Myer, VA. Home of the Old Guard.
  5. Gonzo1 Wrote: "Ah, it explains a lot to me too! In my opinion, WB SHOULD be what it was, not what it is. As I understand it, the program is being watered down. When I first heard about WB 21st Century, the program was 'advertised' as indoors and seminars only, no outdoor experience. First and second year cub leaders don't have enough experience. For that matter, first and second year Boy Scout leaders don't either. " So the fact that I'm a 2nd year leader in Cub Scouts, I must not have the experience. Guess the 7 years I spent in Boy Scouts was a waste, eh???
  6. Cool, I'd be happy to help. I'm the Council Special Needs Committee Chair in our Council as well as a Cub Master for one of our Special Needs Packs. We also have a District level Special needs Committee Chair within each district. You will be surprised at how many special needs Scouts there are out there. In fact, we have over 800, yes, over 800 Scouts of non-traditional age in just one of our Packs. In fact, we have a Halloween party today for them. 580 Scouts are planned to show up. We also have several packs/troops that are only Special needs Scouts. We have formal trainin
  7. Thanks orennoah, Beavah, and Eamonn, That's what I thought. Glad I'm and Eagle, actually I'm an Eagle twice now
  8. I'm more confused by your answer???? I did not say anything about singing with a patrol that I was not in. It was hypothetical. Maybe this will be more clear. OK say your a Bob White but did not yet get your beads. Can you sing with the Bob White patrol or do you have to wait till you get your beads to sing "with" them.
  9. OK, got to thinking............Just finished my 2nd Wood Badge weekend. Received my Training card that states that I've completed the practicle Wood Badge Training Experience. Let's say I was in the Bob White Patrol (which I was not)and happen to attend a beading ceremony, should / is it OK to join in and sing with the Bob White Patrol even though I have NOT YET completed my ticket goals and received my beads?????? Thanks
  10. Even better than the 1st. What a great Course Director and Staff. We had a great patrol too. I'm not one to give out too many compliments, but I have to tell ya, I was so impressed with the patrol project from every single patrol. Our troop guide was awesome. Weather was great. Not a drop of rain. 40's at night and 60's - 70's during the day.
  11. FScouter, I beg to differ with you. As I recall the latest coming down from the top and I belive its on the back of the Leader Application (I don't have one in front of me right now" It specifically states Youth Protection" Joe
  12. OWL as they call it is no longer offered at least in our Council. It has been replaced with the new course named Outdoor Leaders Skills for Webelos Leaders. It mirrors OLS training for Boy Scout Leaders. In fact they are run at the same time then split for certain training activites. (This message has been edited by GNX Guy)
  13. You need to take Youth protection. You do not need Outdoor training to be "Trained" but you do need it to earn your Knot
  14. All I can say is OMG, it was great. I went there thinking I'd loose a few pounds over the weekend. I ended up gaining 4.5 lbs. The food was great. Guess it's a good thing when the quartermaster owns a resturant. Training was awesome, staff was outstanding, my patrol was great. Been along time since I've laughed so much and had so much fun. I can't wait for the 2nd weekend. Heck, I might sign up for next years class too. Oh, and I AM an Eagle
  15. I plan to attend both the 2010 National Jambo and the 2011 World Jambo with my Son. I hope to be with the contingent as a leader but will happily apply for a staff position if need be. As a boy, I was not able to go to a National or World Jamboree. I want my son to have that experience. For many, its a once in a lifetime adventure. I'm guessing around $20,000.00 for the both of us for both Jamborees Joe
  16. After trying for months, literally every day to register, today after the 3rd try, I finally got an ID number sent to me. I tried many time to register on that floating screen that pops up and many times on the bar to the right. Today, the floating screen was tried again and bam, finally after many months it worked. I was beginning to think it was me. I tried 5 different emails over this period. Have your buddy try today, maybe they fixed a bug. Joe
