ED, I must respectfully disagree with not informing the SE as soon as possible. YP guidelines do state that we need to contact the SE. What YP guideline was violated? None. If you are gonna call your SE you should be calling him about the Scout pulling a knife!

If a Boy Scout wants to work with Cub Scouts, but his SPL, and SM, will not approve his being a Den Chief, he can still volunteer his time to help a den, he simply does not get POR credit for it. My question would be, if a Scout is already doing all of that work on his own, and he is in need of a POR, why on earth would you NOT approve him as a Den Chief, and give him POR credit for it? Does he want to work with Cub Scouts or just want to hang out with them? Big difference.

Got himself alone with the Scouts? No YP violation as long as it wasn't dad and one Scout. What could you have done? Probably nothing. Dad doesn't seem to understand the potential problem. While an outright ban of knives at a patrol meeting probably isn't the best thing, I don't see the harm. It's good to hear the SE back you up.

I've been using Norton for decades and love it. Apparently there is something that is triggering that notice. I get it too. It might be nothing but it is worth looking into.

I can sell hoagies for $5 and make $3 per sale. I can sell candy for roughly the same. The more affordable the product the better the sales. Trails End popcorn is overpriced! $40 for 36 bags of microwave popcorn? That's overpriced!

And the SM is wrong. Not be rude? He lied, either by ignorance or an internal rule. No the SM is not wrong nor did he lie. You really need to read what was posted before making statements like that ScoutMythBuster. And the deception is perceived because of a not hearing what was said.

There are a lot of variables. How many Troops/Patrols will be attending? What is the camporee theme? What will be done at each station? How far apart are these stations (travel time)? 5 minutes seems really short. 20 minutes seems about right based on your start and end times.

Labeling this "deception" seems a bit harsh. It doesn't sound like anyone was doing this on purpose but more as a result of not understanding or actually know the guidelines.

We do have council permission -- if only a nod. Does a wink go along with that? Hmmmm...... did council sign the Unit Money Earning Application or did you get a verbal OK?

Council may need popcorn sales but the product is overpriced. There are hundreds of other fundraisers for a unit that are priced better and sell better.

Either find a different fundraiser or who do I give my $65 check to?

Interesting topic. While I believe there are kids with medical conditions. But I also feel a lot of behavior is excused because of these conditions.

Gee I must really be old because I remember when Scout Shops and Distributors gave out a copy of the uniform inspection guide sheet when a new uniform shirt was purchased. Yup! Still have a bunch of them! Use to give them out to new parents!
