  1. Interesting that the news article noted the likelihood of a large percentage of false claims having been generated in this mess. It is sad that this Scouter that mentored so many over such a period was put through this. I would like to perhaps hear how the false accusation came about, since the Joh Doe recanted under oath. Why did he do it? I suspect it has some connection to less than honest legal birds I so distain. So, we have a man falsely accused who is now in his own way a "survivor"? How many more may appear? The pendulum may swing some more. While the Survivors that

  2. Ten years ago when Weston Rock was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer at the age of 10 months, his Greencastle-Antrim community rallied as he was treated at Penn State Health Children's Hospital in Hershey. "Weston died of cancer in February 2016, less than a month before his third birthday, but he is remembered with Greencastle Cub Pack 13's annual pajama drive. Just before Christmas, Cub Scout Pack 13 topped 10,000 pairs of pajamas collected for the children’s hospital since the fall of 2016, according to Cubmaster Patrick Jansen." "Some 1,500 pairs of pajamas were

  3. Jan 25, 2024: A former Boy Scout volunteer, David Lee Nelson, 41, of Redmond, Washington, admitted hiding two cameras in a S Bar F Scout Ranch bathroom in July of 2021. "Nelson hid the cameras in paper towel dispensers and positioned them so they would capture the interior of the bathroom, including a shower stall. One camera was discovered when a scout leader and scouts were cleaning out one of the restroom stalls. A search uncovered another camera, and leaders then called the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department. Later in the day, a scout leader spotted Nelson holding hi

  4. McCalister, 79, had been a scoutmaster for about 45 years. More than 240 scouts with Troop 285 in North-Central San Antonio achieved the rank of Eagle Scout during his tenure. He spearheaded fundraising for a scout lodge that now bears his name on the campus of Coker United Methodist Church on the North Side. He fought the allegation made by an anonymous accuser, who said the abuse occurred in the early 1990s. One day shy of the year anniversary of receiving the letter, McCalister sued the Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council Inc. and his accuser — only known as John Doe — for d

  5. Nothing beyond that screenshot. I would think everything else in the process is unchanged. I do think this could open up the option of adults having to directly use a third party for the background check. I have to do that for other youth orgs, get the certificate and then can submit my registration. We will see ..

  6. And a bad leader blames his subordinates for the balls he drops... experienced that first hand. Water over the dam now but I expect it still goes on.

  7. Actually just picked up a collarless Cub Scout shirt at the local thrift store this afternoon. They did come with long sleeves. really neat shirt. i see a lot of posts complaining about the neckerchiefs. I think that the purpose of why scouts wear a neckerchief has been lost. The neckerchief is a key piece to the uniform. not wearing one is kind of like wearing a baseball uniform without a hat. Kind of makes you look sloppy. neckerchiefs should be mandatory. It is ok to enforce scouts wear proper uniforms. Every other youth organization and you

  8. I was inducted into the Order of the Arrow back in the 1960's. I was a part of our chapter ceremonies team for years. I was a chapter chief and an advisor. I have been a Vigil Honor member for more than 50 years. Over the years I have seen a change in how the YOUTH perceive the use of Native American culture in the OA. I hear all the time about chapters and lodges who have difficulty fielding ceremonies teams, and when listening to the YOUTH who decline when asked to participate one of the most common things I hear is that they are amazed that we still dress up and play Indian. Many of t
