  1. One thing I'd like to get out of a UC is ... you guessed it, a UC! Never been in a unit that had one to my knowledge. Seems like a UC could be an asset though
  2. Crew21 Adv and Qwasze, The Venturing crew is for a camp staff, so I'm guessing camp or the council covers this since I was not ever asked for the registration fee. They do know that I am also in a troop, and the CD knows I'm an ASM since I had talked to him about doing IOLS through the camp's adult leader training in the outdoor skills area this year.
  3. Thanks E92! Would I still need to pay the registration fee? Will this be associated with my current member ID? Just curious. Thanks
  4. I am currently dual-registered in a troop (SA) and as a member of a Venturing crew (camp staff). I dual-registered while a youth BS to be on camp staff with the camp's Venturing crew, but now wish to also register as a MBC (position code 42, I believe). I am still registered with the troop and crew; how do I go about getting a third registration as an MBC? Do I need to pay the fee again? Thanks
  5. Not sure about any of these, but I do know that it appears inter-state mergers will take some time. For example, take Bay-Lakes (Appleton, WI (NE WI)) and Hiawathaland (Marquette, MI (UP of MI)). Both council boards have approved merger initiated by Hiawathaland (which didn't want to get involved in Area 2 merger). Now the two are waiting to get through the two states' processes of approval to combine legally. This is an extremely large area now, and if it were combined with the rest of WI, that would be an extremely large council! Just an example
  6. 1 ODL troop uniform 1 first-gen Venturing (camp staff) 1 CU (camp staff) PLUS my uncle's old, old uni from way back when...
  7. Thanks Eagle92 and hendrickms24!
  8. OK, so a little twist to the situation ... Our SM was a member of the OA in the '80s, an ordeal member who still has his sash. How can he go about re-entering the lodge? Thanks
  9. ScoutBox- The "ADULT WIND TECH JACKET" http://www.scoutstuff.org/bsa/apparel/mens/jackets/adult-wind-tech-jacket.html is $40 and works great. One complaint about it is that the drawstrings can come apart (detach from jacket), but I believe they can be resewn. Any idea what the easiest way is to order unit flags? I'm considering getting one (over time) for each unit I've been a member of as a sort of keepsake (Cub pack, Scout troop, Venturing crew for campstaff).
  10. OA is part of the Boy Scout division, as is Varsity. Unless the BS Division program changes to co-ed, youth OA members could not be female. (I hope I'm interpreting this correctly.)
  11. We have a council chaplain (in his 70s, I believe) who wears a flap of a lodge which was part of a six-council merger in the 70s. I agree that the current flap should be worn, or the one received during ordeal. Our lodge doesn't change flaps often. Two of my shirts have the standard flap; one has a ceremonies flap since I received a free one last summer for doing ceremonies.
  12. E92- Just seemed more practical to me, but I guess price would be a factor.
  13. - button w/ hole on left pocket of CU for PH device - buttonhole for right pocket of CU - Venturing uniform matching CU - Scoutmaster HB w/ Troop Prog. Features, ILST, and Troop Prog. Resources in one volume published like Scout HB in an actual book instead of 3-hole punched pages, but include a CD for printing copies of pages (meeting plans, checklists, etc.)
  14. A regional jamboree was sort of what was hosted in Oshkosh, WI in 9/2009: the Great Lakes Centennial Jamboree (I would give a link to the website, but it seems to be offline now). I believe that 10,144 participants were there, and it was supposed to be similar to a NSJ. Maybe something like encampments by area (somewhat similar to OA section conclaves) would work???
  15. E92, could a sea scout uniform be worn even if one is not registered with a Ship?
  16. Thanks to everyone for your advice. I don't think Jambo will be an option since there wasn't much interest when a leader came from our district to make a powerpoint presentation. We do have members in the OA, but the last two just got their sashes in 2010 and then do nothing. I will be summer chief at one of our council's camps, so maybe I can start swaying them toward OA; unfortunately they will be at the other boy scout camp this year. High adventure bases would be fun, but for sure NT would conflict with the troop's Canadian canoe trek every other year, but Seabase may be
  17. As stated in the parent thread, my troop is unsuccessful in participating in many things beyond the unit level. OA. Jambo. National high adventure. Youth training (e.g. NYLT). How do you encourage scouts to: - be involved in OA? - consider Philmont/Northern Tier/Sea Base - go to NYLT? - attend a jamboree? (OK I realize this is quite expensive, and that could be a factor) Any and all thoughts are appreciated.
  18. It most definitely is. Part of it probably is the small troop in a small community or something. We're the only troop in town and don't interact much with other troops, so it could be we just don't hear about what the others are doing, which could spark interest.
  19. BD - not sure if master trainer course is offered around here in the near future. The trainer course is already scheduled and forms are available. Didn't take NYLT; no one in my troop did (I may have been the only scout who knew what it was - no one was involved in ANYTHING beyond unit level (OA, NYLT, national high adventure, jambo)). The troop only did summer camp and klondike, and occasionally spring camporee. I'm working to try to change that. Not working very well.
  20. Just went through a leader specific course this weekend and the card had SE signature. Couldn't find BSA Supply number on the card, but the logo on the bottom was the same as that on the top of national's website (Univ. emb. and "BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA" to the right) May have been old cards, though
  21. Thanks. I'll look into my local council's offering, as well as nearby councils. Also looking at getting LNT trained and maybe doing woodbadge in a year or two after I get more experience as ASM.
  22. General training question: Can ASMs attend Powder Horn? In what capacity? I am 18-21 yr. old ASM in troop also registered with Venturing crew for camp staff and am interested in attending PH as well as working on Outdoor Bronze and eventually Ranger. Any suggestions appreciated.
  23. Thanks to all. This seems like it follows similar protocol as the Eagle does with the medal and such. Crew21 Adv: That's very interesting about the ranger bar.
  24. So the Ranger Award for venturers (youth) is signified by either the medal or the Ranger bar (either metal or cloth), but how are adults recognized for earning this rare award? Do they still wear the bar informally? Can they wear the medal on formal occasions?
