  1. Qualcar What is requirement 5a? Does the computer merit badge book still have a section in it about DOS? dan
  2. OGE What is Pine nut Cous Cous? My favorite way to cook spam is in those little round pie makers, two slices of bread lathered in butter, with chedder cheese. cooked until golden brown
  3. Can you guys help me out here? What rules have changed? The new scout patrol was started in 1980 if memory serves me correctly, that was 22 years ago!? The 1st class swimming requirment changed so that the scouts do not have to blow up wet clothes, is that really such a big issue? Cant use PADBALLS?
  4. At Wood Badge I learned (no not from the course, one of the patrol members is in the food service He would eat Spam but not Hot dogs!) that Spam is not made from "junk" animal parts, it is a very high quality food product! A "little" high is salt though. Spam is ok if cooked for my taste buds, but my favorite is Vienna hot dogs!
  5. ed those are not my words i cut and pasted that from the GTSS. according to the GTSS a webelos must have a father or mother with them to camp. and it must be an BSA approved campsite.
  6. From the GTSS Adults giving leadership to a pack overnighter must complete Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO, No. 34162A) Permits for campouts shall be issued locally. Packs use Local Tour Permit Application, No. 34426B. Joint Webelos den-troop campouts are encouraged for dens of fifth-grade Webelos Scouts with their parents to strengthen ties between the pack and troop. Den leaders, pack leaders, and parents are expected to accompany the boys on approved trips. You can find it here http://www.scouting.org/cgi/gss/viewall.pl
  7. 1. Canoe trip BWCA 2. Hike in Isle Royale
  8. Please see the Issues Forum (3 million children) someone (rooster7) made a very good point about this thread. It made me rethink my original solution.
  9. Come on, do you really think that you are so important that some will cross the street, let alone the country, to bother you. YES, I am very important to my family and friends! How do you know it was across the country? some will cross the street, let alone the country, to bother you. This has never happened b4 has it! Think b4 you post!
  10. If Bob leaves I am outa here! Unless someone can fill his role here. dan (not my real name) (my profile was filled out until a poster here went overboard I did not want this person to find me or my family)(This message has been edited by dan)
  11. benny I am sorry to tell you the answer is NO. I have to wonder why some people are here. They seem to dislike what Scouting is! We have had this same question asked at least 3 times since I have been here. I am not free of sin myself as I have attacked others here.
  12. The third annual Scouting for All Equality Rally drew five protesters to the median in front of Boy Scouts of the Coastal Empire headquarters on Abercorn Extension Thursday.
  13. Wouldn't you agree that scouting is a specfic method of teaching and learning in order to reach specific goals? YES And, that there is more to scouting than just having fun and wearing a scout uniform? YES Where will leaders learn what differentiates scouting from other youth activities if not by receiving training? From being a scout themselves, reading the handbooks how does one know if he agrees with the scouting program or understands the scouting program unless he goes to scout leader training? He follows the patrol method.
  14. sctmom Let me start off by stating that training is good. BUT if one does not agree with or understand what scouting is all the training in the world is not going to help. The best leader in my sons troop has not been through any type of training except for YPT. Why is he the best, he releates to and understands what the scouts needs and wants not wants he needs or wants.
  15. OGE Wood dat not be cheating on yous ticket? Just do not tell anyones I will be utilizing teh links for my ticket also!
  16. If a member of the committee makes a statement and does not use proper grammar, I belittle them and make fun of them.
  17. So what is inactive? Monies reimbursed? Removed from roster? Or is it only no advancements? So if I missed 3 meetings (assuming I did not call the Scoutmaster and tell him why I would not be at the 3 meetings.) what would I have to do to become active again?
  18. In another thread caving came up, and I just wanted to share with you what the Guide to Safe Scouting says about caving. Cave Exploring These minimum safety requirements apply: Cave exploring, other than simple novice activities, should be limited to Scouts and Venturers 14 years of age or older. Group leaders qualify through training and experience in cave exploring and through knowing established practices of safety, conservation, and cave courtesy. Leader and group must understand and agree to follow the basic practices and policies of caving approved by the National Sp
  19. I CANNOT beleive that this requirement throws the patrol concept out!
  20. DrBeado This was asked about a 8 months ago, and no one has a answer for it at that time either, I have never seen this logo. I think it means you are special! (This message has been edited by dan)
  21. jbroganjr where you "involved" with the old worn out tired woodbadge? I just finished the outdoor part of the NEW BETTER UPDATED Woodbage, and have already been hearing from the old Woodbagers how the old was better are you one of THEM? So you did not use the videos shame on you when the rocket boy was finsihed a big cheer went up, after the clips from Mr. Holland opus I do not think there was a dry eye in the barn! Glad I wasn't at your "training". (This message has been edited by dan)
  22. SIGH What year is this? 1960? (i have a feeling that some folks here miss the good old days) "Had a stereotypical mom on a campout this weekend. I had to threaten to tie her to a tree before she'd leave the scouts alone." That was me the first 6 months into the BSA program (i am a slow learner so shoot me!) except i ain't no mom! In my experience the sex of a person has nothing to do with if they get the program or not. Does someone sit down with the new parents and explain the program to them? Without throwing out buzzwords and 3 letter acronyms? (my bet is NOT) yet they
