  1. During Scoutmaster fundamentals training the leaders did a flag retirement, one little twist is that they removed the grommets from the flag and after the burning, the grommets where presented to someone who had gone above and beyound in Scouting. It is considered a very special gift! Red Feather Do you think it is wrong to cut the flag up 1st? I have seen both types and if done propely they are both good ways, should you not have explained that to the scouts. It sounds like you think that way is incorrect and gave that impression to the scouts!
  2. I am assuming you are asking about Boy and not Cub Scouts. The answer for Boy Scouts is the Scoutmaster is responsible, but he/she can delegete the siging to anyone he/she wants to. This info is in the Scoutmaster Handbook.(This message has been edited by dan)
  3. Winston Zeddemore: Do you believe in God? Dr. Raymond Stantz: Never met him.
  4. I thinks you mean: Beam me up Scotty, there is no intelligent life down here!
  5. Didn't you say it would be BAD to cross the beams?!(This message has been edited by dan)

    Class B's

Yes, I have issues err I mean questions. If the troop I am in includes a special hat, and I am not wearing the hat can I salute? I am out of uniform per the troop uniform policy? Should the hat be worn indoors? In a church but not the sacuntary?
  7. DrBeado Two Words HAVE FUN! A few more words! Remember that Scouting is a game with a purpose! Reading the Scoutmaster handbook, I came across this little bit of advice. You will make mistakes learn from it and go on do not dwell on the mistakes. Obtain the Guide to Safe Scouting (you can download it off of www.scouting.org, and read it. Become a good coach, let the boys make mistakes and they will learn from them also. Check back in and let us now how it is going. This place is great for advice and finding the correct documents that are needed.
  8. I have bookmarked this site and review it when time permits. Is this a BSA program?
  9. Oh no, conflicting info!? That can not be true, see this thread! http://www.scouter.com/forums/viewThread.asp?threadID=16481
  10. I beleive that in the Scoutmaster handbook, it says that the Scoutmaster decides who can sign requirments. This does not apply to Merit Badges.
  11. 1. If I could not get someone to cover for me, I would explain that I have made a commitment and I will honor the commitment I made. 2. ???!!!!
  12. I guess I gave you to much info! The question should be: Can a patrol choose who the memebers of the patrol will be? I am not the SM. I thought 8 was a good size for a patrol. 3 seems small. I am trying to keep details out until I know the answer to the above question. I think you are reading to much into this one. The reason only 2 members of the patrol where there, 2 where at football practice, and 1 is never there. (This is being addressed by the SM). The PL and APL where there.
  13. Can a patrol say no we do not want this scout in our patrol? My sons patrol had 4 boys from another patrol come up and ask if they could join their patrol. The patrol, well the 2 of the 5 that where there said you 3 can join and the 1 cannot. Is this acceptable!
  14. Bob If a scout is elected and does not ACTIVELY SERVE, but no leader points this out to him or trys to help him. The scout floats through the 6 month term with no feedback, would you sign him off than? This is what I remembered you typing. No need to to research back for proof! I have been incorrect B4! This thread took a turn from what I started it for! (This message has been edited by dan)
  15. OGE Did your patrol play the win all you can win game? If you did how did it go? We had many discussion about this game with the staffers. ASM7 The new Woodbadge requirment is to come with a full uniform, with your current patches, the requirment that you had to come in with a stripped shirt and sew on your patches in 10 minutes has been dropped, maybe someone figured it out that speed sewing is not a scout event.(This message has been edited by dan)
  16. ZP It must be rocket science that is! I can ask 4 scouters where the patches go and get 3 different answers! So must for asking! Not all patches are shown in the Cub or Boy Scout Handbook! So now what should I do! Jerry Why do you think sewing a patch on top of a patch is an infraction? Please take my post with a pinch of salt! I have had so many discussions with scouters about my uniform being incorrect, that this just ruffles my fur! I had to change my uniform once because it was incorrect, I have been told at least 6 times it was incorrect. Question can a religious
  17. LauraT7 I understand your concern, but you really should not leave until it is proven that the troop is not be running correctly. Even Old dogs can learn new tricks! Good Luck
  18. OGE You are trying to hard! I am off to work on my ticket! Tallyho
  19. not a merit badge mill do not lose advancements forms treat all troops (scouts) the same do not change the rules in the middle of the week have necessary supplies available (for merit badges) at least act like they are having a good time (put on a happy face) do not change times for classes, today we meet at 2 tomorrow at 4 all of the above happened at this years summer camp, we will not be going back to this one.
  20. I think the scout should schedule the Board of Review. He knows if he passed the BOR and the Board will know if he passed because the Scoutmaster signed off of the Scoutmaster conference in the Scouts handbook. BUT, the scoutmaster should be communicating to the BOR.
  21. My questions is what has happened to the posters that where here and have disappered. Where are you Bubbabear, Dan Williamson, featherswillfly, Chief Decorah, and many I have missed, come back we miss you! even if we do not always agree with you! It seems to me that there are only have about 25 active posters.
  22. sctmom What class is your son at? Does the troop do exciting high adventures? Can you talk up some of the trips that they have taken, for something for him to look forward to? Can he become more of a leader than a follower? If memory serves me correctly he has been in for one year, is there new scouts that will be joining that he can help guide? My sons still loves it after a year and a half, but I am hearing from other fathers that their son is bored with scouting, but they still love the campouts. Could you point out a merit badge that he would love to work on?(This message has be
  23. For this weeks woodbadge course, it has been suggested that we embellish our tents, with personnel cute items? I am totally confused on this one. I think we should be using more of the live no trace, and not bringing in extra stuff to the out of doors. Can someone explain what this has to do with anything, and should we expect the scouts to do the same?
