  1. EagleInKY Once again where would I find this policy (i.e. advancement requirements). You are the 3rd person in this thread to talk about this policy. I do not believe there is a policy. It looks like you are saying it is okay to change the Patrol method and the Leadership Development Method, but not the Advancement Method?
  2. Here is the BSA program. At least this is what I think of when I talk about he BSA program. Ideals Patrols Outdoor Programs Advancement Associations With Adults Personal Growth Leadership Development Uniform So evmori and OldGreyEagle say it is okay to tweak the Patrol method but not the Advancement method. Which other methods are open in your mind for tweaking? ANY or just the patrol method? evmori as I asked Hunt when he said that changing advancement requirements are against the BSA rules, and you said, adding requirements is a violation of BSA policy, where are these rules/polices?
  3. Zahnada Seems like you are running away from something you started, whats up with that. You asked for an example I gave you one, but you do not like it, I do not understand, why you asked for something, and than say you do not agree with something you asked for. Whats up with that. Hunt Where would I find these rules you are talking about? OldGreyEagle At this time I am not supporting the troop. I am still a registered leader, but not in good standing. All I am not asking if you support changes to advancement requirements. I am asking if you support tweaking the program of the BSA. Or are you saying advancement requirements are not part of the program?
  4. OldGreyEagle NO, not my troop. The troop my son is in. I see Backpacker ran away from the question. Anyone else out there? How much of the program should a troop be able to tweak. This troop has 95 scouts, they must be doing somethink right.
  5. Scouts that have been through Troop JLT are allowed to wear the trained patch.
  6. BobWhite The troop (not really the SM, but that is another story) changed the program, to help the scout get ready for the next step in scouting. I would really like to hear what Zahnada, eagle90, Uncleguinea, evmori, Its Me, Backpacker, Eagledad have to say about the change that this troop has made to the program. When they post that changing the program is okay. BobWhite wrote What leads you to believe that your son would not have developed those qualities had the Scoutmaster not violated advancement policies? What would lead you to believe that he would have? The above 2 questions that cannot be answered. We would only be guessing on the outcome, sort of like what if the Red Sox did not win the last 4 games with New York, we would only be guessing on the winner of the World Series. 7. scoutingagain You got it close enough! I guess I thought that is what this thread was about, changing the program, or am I off base on what program is?
  8. Poor wording on my part. Should have been Leadership project. While a Star Scout, serve actively for six months in one or more of the troop positions of responsibility listed in requirement 5 for Star Scout (or carry out a Scoutmaster-assigned leadership project to help the troop).
  9. Program changed did it work? My son has his Scoutmaster Conference tonight for Life. He finished his Life project last Sunday, and the write up of the project. The write up includes copies of the thank you letters for the 6 people he called to donate money for this project. A write up of who helped and how long. Issues he had with the project. List of supplies and cost. Pictures of the project being built and pictures of the completed project. During the time he was a Star Scout he had put in over 30 hours of service hours for 4 Eagle projects, and 2 Life projects. He had been Troop Instructor for the last 12 months, doing everything that was asked of him to fulfill this POR. After his life project was complete I noticed a change in him, joking around more with the adults in the troop, a little more outgoing. Did the change/added requirements work?
  10. whining? You missed the point. If QA had a exciting program they would not have to rely on secerts to get people excited about joining. 1986OSChamp Where was it said that Masonic Fraternity has NO purpose? WOW!
  11. You think OA is like the Shriners! The Shriners which are tied to the Masons that are tied to.... Never Mind I have been reading to much Dan Brown!
  12. Maybe if the OA had a decent "program" they would not have rely on secrets and mystery.
  13. BUT OGE Posters said that this discussion board could not go through the forming storming norming performing stages! There is no leader and stuff.
  14. A pair of regular khaki pants (without all the pockets and a shade of white) and a standard button down shirt (maybe blue). I thought you wanted a COOL uniform? If you want the scouts to think its cool, how about some camo shorts, they must be long and baggy, no belt, camo boxer shorts to match, and a BIG BAGGY Hawaiian shift!
  15. Eagledad You typed we would put them in a mixed age patrol and that was successful for us. In our boy run structure, we viewed diversity of age and experience as a benefit and for our new scouts. Even now we try to move the scouts out of the NSPs after six months. I am assuming that the we in your post are adults. Even if not, the below question still stands. How do you handle it if a scout reads the Boy Scout Handbook, that says a Patrol should be recruiting new members, and keeping their patrol at full strength. Do you say That this troop does not follow that part of the program or is this another one of the areas where you believe that that message is only a suggestion for a troop?
  16. You should read what the Boy Scout Handbook and SM Handbook has to say about patrols and how they should grow. It was an eye opener for me.
  17. So PNScouter You are better at judging abuse then the experts? We are not to judge only report SUSPECTED forms of abuse. Your tounge lashing could have done more harm than good.
  18. ...I would just file it away in the back of my mind and recognize that the person has some problems. WOW, how did you come up with this? Did you leave a a sentence out with the word IF in it?
  19. This is not problem solving. It is understanding group dynamics and how to work with, coach, help a team (think patrol). Think of Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, SPL, working with a patrol. Or think of a forum!
  20. Teams are in a constantly ending cycle of forming, storming, norming, performing. A team goes through each cycle, and sometimes back in the cycle, it could be one or three steps back in the cycle depending on many things. A new goal can send a team back to any place in the cycle. A new member can do the same thing to a team, or a lost member. From NYLT. not woodbadge.
  21. evmori wrote If you don't like my posts, Bob, block them! The last time he did that, you whined about it in just about every other post! Because he could not see you and your buddies slams against him. Adrianvs wrote Sometimes the teacher must abandon the Socratic method and just give a good lecture. I think that we can handle the information in its pure form. Bob White has quoted and explained and gets slammed for it, so he tries to get other posters to think and find the reference, and now you whine and scream about that! I like the info straight with no sugar coating, but it seems most of you cannot take it without someone sugar coating it for you. ps56k Stick around it is possible to get good info from this site, once you decide which posters have the goods.
  22. "Programs Helps" only covers Tigers through Bears now. So what I gather out of this is that the Webelos no longer follow the monthly theme, with the rest of the pack. Or is the monthly theme also gone from Cub Scouts also, What a shame, sounds like the BSA is trying to separate the Webelos from the pack.
  23. Where you camping this last weekend, in that wind and cold? Stood out side for a couple hours for a soccer game Saturday, and thought to myself, that I was glad I was not camping this weekend. Saw a few drops of sleet in the afternoon!
