  1. Great Slides! Thanks for some great ideas!!
  2. Fred, You beat me to it! I'm glad that National finally came to their senses about this. For years the "party line" was knot or medal, not both. Ignoring the simple fact that no normal leader will take off his knots for a COH. It would set the uniform police in a tizzy at every Eagle Court or District Awards Dinner.
  3. NO! The uniform method is a symbol that we are part of a biger organization not just a individual. Could they design them better? Oh Yes! Could they be made to cost less? Oh Yes! But that was not the question.
  4. Don't forget the Varsity Scouts. There is a Device for them also. Some Religions have multiple levels for 14-15 year old Scouts who could be Varsity Scouts. The Venturer's can go to age 21 while Varsity stops at 18. FYI.
  5. Going with the old neckerchief sounds great! Connecting with their past history! Don't forget to make sure the troop is wearing their veteran bar. You should be wearing the "50 year" bar between your CSP and your Troop number. Also if you want to go "all the way" you can get custom Troop numbers with the veteran bar included. Very Cool! Be proud of your units history! YIS Ron
  6. I have the olive tie. I used to wear it to ECOH and Scout Sundays. But now I'm into Venturing and so, no tie, just bolo. It would be cool to find one of the old Explorer ties (Red) to wear for a formal event. That would stand out! ;O) When was there a tan tie? With what uniform? YIV Ron
  7. Yeh, I remember wearing the beret. You are so right, with long hair it looked very stupid. Then you had the kids who "marched to a different drummer" when wearing their beret and it looked like a "red mushroom" on their head. Glad to see it's gone. But wait, Scouting uniforms NEVER go away. At our last Troop meeting a committee member (and parent) shows up wearing his RED Beret. The same one he had as a Scout! He was also wearing his old olive green uniform (with no collar) and full size necker (no Shorts though). We once had a visitor to an Eagle Court who was wearing his old woo
  8. I like the idea of "Black Neckerchiefs". It would be a lot more visable than shoulder loops. Especialy with the Venturing Uniform. The green loops with the dark green shirt is bad enough, black would be invisable. As for the "Uniform Police", they can "pound sand" for the day. They will get over it.
  9. You can count me in the "group" that the perceived "hassle" and time commitment to Tickets has kept me from going. I've been involved as a Scout or Adult Leader for the past 33 years (since I was 8) with the exception of when I was stationed in Korea for a year. I have been through Basic & Specific Leader Training for most Scout, Cub and now Venturing Adult Leader positions (many of them multiple times). With the time commitment and the financial requirements (which you would have to convince my wife). Is it realy worth it? If so why? OGE, Does it relate to Venturing?
  10. So Merlyn, If you want nothing to do with the BSA, why do you frequent this Web Site? This is a Web Site about Scouting. The majority of subscribers are Scouters or people involved in the Scouting program. Your participation on this Web site is a kin to a "Pro Choice" person on a "Pro Life" Web Forum. Are you on a "Crusade" against the BSA?
  11. Merlyn_Leroy, I'm waiting for your answer to Big Dog. After reading your "views", I'd like to know also. So here is his post again, in case you forgot. Merlyn- Do you have something in your life that truly brings you joy? I'm not trying to be mean or sarcastic, I just hope bashing Scouting is not the highlight of your life. Were you ever in Scouts, and if so, did you enjoy some of the experiences? Hope you have a great weekend...
  12. Fuzzy Bear, that was great! I think the reason is #9 Scouting History. Lodge Flaps are supposed to tell about the Lodge, it's history, the local, area, etc. Just like the CSP are. A great example are the CSPs from some Southern Councils which had the Confederate Flag in the design (not PC).:>) History. Also Why? $$$$$$$$$
  13. Lodge Flaps are optional. As for the "Mormon" connection. The LDS Church was one of the "orginal" Charter Organizations back in 1913 (or so I have been told). As for the program seperations. Cubs: 8 years thru 10 years Boy Scouts: 11 thru 13, 11 year olds meet seperate. Varsity Scouts:14 thru 15 Venturing: 16 thru 18 (you don't see too many after 19, they go on "missions" for the Church). Also boys can be registered in more than one unit. It is very common to see a 17 year old Venturer also registered as a JASM with the Troop. Also, a lot of LDS units are registering thei
  14. My condolences to the family and friends. May God Bless his family in this dark hour. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and Troop, especially his Father. I pray their "wounds" will heal soon. Mike, you are to be commended in your service to your Scouts and their families. God Bless you.
  15. I have the "Yahoo" toolbar with "popup blocker". So far it works great. Now about spam blockers.... I have tried a few, off shareware sites and have found that they are too much trouble. You have to "train" the blocker to recognize the Spam. After you have manualy blocked the spam the first time, its blocked. But not until you do it first. I have tried to reply to the sites themselves, to "unsubscribe", but 9 times out of 10, it never works. Anyone have a answer? A cheep answer?
  16. Anyone planning on attending WashJam 2004? It is planned for Labor Day weekend. It is just getting off the ground. I just found out about it (Our Council is mostly Oregon focused). The Web Page is: www.washjam.org Not a lot of info yet. It looks like it has something for all age groups. Our troop is planning to go, as is our Pack.
  17. I have heard a little bit on this NEW Award. The "Trust Award" will be the advanced award for the "Religous Life" Bronze. Much like the "Quest" is for the "Sports" Bronze. Other than a drawing of the Medal and the above info. not much more is know by me. Possible release 2004-2005? Someone said there were problems? Any Help out there?
  18. Bad news, The "infected" Cow came from a herd in Alberta. DNA tests (from both US & Canada) confirmed it. Read this in the paper. If you don't like Chicken, how about the other "White meat"? Just stay away from "Head Cheese"!
  19. Matua, What Council is Guam a part of? What Lodge/Chapter? You HCS sounds interesting. Will you guys have a Web page ?
  20. I was going through some of my old Scout "stuff" and came across a Neckerchief Slide that was given to me by our "International Scouter" from Japan (When I was on Camp Staff in 1980). It is a metal "disk" with enameled colors on the front. The story behind it says that it was for the Japanese Contingent to the 1979 World Jamboree that was supposed to have been held in Iran. The "Sha" was overthrown and it was moved to Sweeden. The writing is "arabic" or "persian" I think. Is there anyone who knows about this or can someone point me in the right direction. Also, is the Jamboree story t
  21. YAK, I have some old CSPs from SCCC as well as some old Miwok Lodge flaps. Interested? E-mail me off line. CR14
