  1. @qwazse You don't need a special sponsor....just sell more popcorn, πŸ€‘
  2. @ShadyRhoads Past few years??? Who is telling you what? I don't know what you have done, but whatever the council camp you went to should have records of the classes etc and the Camp Director should be able to resolve this.
  3. This "Scouts is cheaper than X" is an old and tired argument. I have never had any parent say "we are going to join scouts because it's cheaper" If that was the case the membership would not be down 50%. The parents want to sign up their son/daughter and continue to renew for years because of what the program offers their kids for their future in instilling Character, Values and Ethics and have some adventures while doing so. Kids are in sports x/y/z, quiz bowls and their other church youth groups because they want to. Remember they also have school work which comes first.
  4. When a scout earns his Scout rank, we give them 21 completed MB cards and complete each rank every meeting so they are ready for their EBOR in a month or so. 😜
  5. The 8/26 document I posted comes from the site yknot posted.
  6. The 8/26 document is much more specific than the 1 July one with more specific actions by the UMC/BSA/LC/Unit. It was thought (maybe wished) that the latest agreement which both parties went back in session to discuss would have an option for the status quo for units but that is not in the 8/26 document. The fact that the LC picks the unit leadership and provides the LC EIN to set up a bank account really means they are the sponsor. The UMC side has words like "generally" and "reasonably" support no "will".
  7. @skeptic I did not see this document posted on this thread. It's dated August 26th.
  8. New agreement as of 8/26/22. I don't see that the UMC churches are sponsoring units. Looks like the LC are the CORs and the units can meet at the church. https://unitedmethodistscouting.files.wordpress.com/2022/08/02.-bsa.umc-updated-affiliation-agreement_08.26.22.pdf
  9. I would not be surprised if most councils are below the 2% considering the large loss of membership.
  10. I think I saw somewhere that National's goal was 2% minimum market share.
  11. An unintended consequence. Unit asked a potential new sponsor about taking on the sponsorship. Potential sponsor asked why the UMC was leaving. Unit said liability. P-sponsor says then why should we take on the liability?
  12. Duh...of course it was! ☺️ Sorry.
  13. This link was just sent to me. Date is from July. https://unitedmethodistscouting.files.wordpress.com/2022/08/20.-mou-gcumm-bsa-july-1-2022.pdf
  14. @5thGenTexanMy understanding is that is not an option for them.
  15. Dumping might be too strong a word but when a unit is told to vacate the church properly by 12/31, the unit certainly feels that way.
  16. @yknot maybe this notice from the UMC is why they are dumping their scouts?
  17. This is a 372 page document that the inspection team go through in an afternoon at a long term camp and then do a photo op with the pennant. Not a chance this is a thorough evaluation.
  18. My friend's troop goes to Camp Rodney. He tells me they offer 3 ways to feed based on where your site is. Dining Hall Heaterstack where they bring the food out to the site and the troop serves it and cleans up Patrol Cooking where you are on your own to feed your unit - there is a reduced cost per scout for this option
  19. @5thGenTexan It's #4 under the yellow box.....collect and submit fees. πŸ˜‚
  20. @gpurlee Your speculation on a revised traditional model is interesting. Pay more (at some who knows what cost) and all is well! Isn't the basic premise of the UMC that they didn't want to sponsor any longer because of liability? this one is what I said before about jerking around units and scouts and getting them all spun up? Councils are chartered by National so they can pull the council's charter just like a council can pull a units charter so they have leverage. We will see what they come up with. The information flow is crickets sounding.
  21. Welcome EEEagle74! I'm guessing your tale will be a common story which is unfortunate for the scouts. As painful it is to lose your unit, please try and place as many of your scouts in other units. We on here hope for the best for you.
  22. @gpurlee Interesting wording "may lead to modifications to the proposed affiliation agreement" I still read this as the UMC won't be sponsoring units??? Also did anyone pick up on the BSA Tasks forceS. Wonder how many there were/are? @yknot You are probably right although the extension is also likely because the UMC and BSA put something out without fully vetting it. Wonder how many UMC scouts they estimate dropping?
  23. If this turns out to be a jerking around of scouts, then shame on the UMC and BSA.
  24. Clearly there are many many sponsors who are super supportive of scouting. My friend knows of three UMC units that are no more due to lack of scouts. Their Packs folded amd without a Pack, the troops were gone in two years.
  25. @gpurlee so your council sends out a letter saying units can stay with their current CO, then they send a letter saying never mind that, and now they're saying in a 3rd communication that you can?? ask if there is an option to transfer to another council! @Eagle1993 maybe the units should ask the SE the same questions if they are sponsors by him. The answer is likely not none, it's we send you a bill.
