  1. The program is set up to be age appropriate not school grade appropriate. An eleven year old will get very bored in cub scouts and should be in boy scouts. Many councils make the boys transition when they turn eleven as they are considered to no longer meet the cub scout requirements "If you are a boy in first grade through fifth gradeor you're 7 to 10 years old" There are many 10 yr old scouts having earned their AOL and crossed over
  2. Talk your son into doing it for you just like the VCR they just seem to get the technology in the teenage years maybe all those cobwebs in us old guys brains are the cause
  3. Four is rather limiting our council allows you to do up to thirty. I guess you have an overabundance of mbc so they limit it to four so everyone gets a turn. I am a counselor for several easy mb's such as reading and computers but have gotten all of zero phone calls over the past two years. If I had to pick four I would pick the ones I was most expert in and let the chips fall where they may. With a regular vocation and several hobbies everyone should be a qualified expert in four. Thirty allows you to stretch a little more.
  4. http://www.idos.com/ Lots of dutch oven stuff and free field tested recipies at above site. Are these for gifts or for your own library? If for gifts I might take the easy way out and buy a gift card.
  5. I have thought about making up a list of mb's all 130 of em and circulating list and request among all parents of our troop and pack. Even if they do not want to participate in any other way it should be a pleasure to share their vocational or avocational expertise with the next generation. We have a lot of occupations represented not to mention all the hobbies. Here each counselor is allowed thirty different mb's to counsel. Last I heard a mb counselor only did not even have to pay the 11 bucks.
  6. Long sleeve shirts ? Do they still make those? Don't know as if I have ever seen one here in Florida. Course our short sleeve uniform shirts do look a little silly worn over a sweatshirt but that's why you buy it extra big isn't it? Let em wear their sashes even if the mb's are safety pinned on we could do like GS and let em put other patches down the back of the sash.
  7. Pineapples with maybe a blue and gold ribbon. Let the families take them home when banquet over.
  8. "The BB shooting loop and pin can be awarded only by a certified Cub Scout BB gun shooting director at a BSA approved camp". The cub scout shooting sports director should give the boys a certificate or the actual belt loop if it is deemed to be awarded. We can always get in the requisite safety information in a week long day camp but in a family camp one day setting often just let the boys shoot rather than being overly concerned with the belt loops to be awarded. BSA has very specific things they want the boys to learn at cub level. It is all age appropriate building blocks from bb guns thro
  9. For what exactly ? The only items that are required to be earned at day camp only are bb gun and archery belt loops
  10. I proudly fold and roll my personal tent which started life as my tiger cub's and my tent some years ago it is a cheapie walmart model just perfect for me and a child be it my son or daughter. It still fits into its original bag and has not been destroyed by mildew or sticks. Much to the dismay of the boy scout troop who cannot fit their much more expensive tents back into the bag from whence they came. Artificial fabrics typically do not mind being folded and rolled as long as they are taken out and exercised regularly. That is the way a large awning company I worked for for many years st
  11. I had the good fortune to be involved with two distinct counsels as a cub scout parent. Our first council had cub family camp encompassing friday night camp saturday full day of cub scout age appropriate activities campfire saturday night and scouts own service sunday am. optional meals were available for 3 meals sat and cold breakfast sunday. The events were put on by boy scout troops from all over the council. This was a rural council and covered large geographic portions of two states. The council camp was within the council and appx two hours drive from our home at the outskirts o
  12. I have been at cub family camp at 25 degrees in Florida no less. I was ready to go to the Holiday Inn Express down by the highway but my son who was a wolf at the time was toasty warm in his better grade of sleeping bag. Don't think there is any hard and fast rule it was a council event at a boy scout camp.
  13. I had my weblos den do a game of tag with buddies selected in advance while they were out having fun running around I would blow a blast on a whistle like a lifeguard then the boys would need to find their buddy hold joined hands up and shout buddy team one, two, whatever their team number was when I had heard from all teams I would blow whistle twice to allow return to tag. they liked it.
  14. If it wasn't for disruptive scouts we'd have no scouts at all. To the scouts we the adults are boring and the things we want to do are boring. Their peers are immensely fun and entertaining. So let them entertain one another.
  15. My son used 14 hours volunteered to the local library for summer reading program documented by letter from the children's librarian 4 hours to complete his reading merit badge and 6 hours for his star requirements. He cannot count the 40 hours he volunteered at cub scout day camp as that benefited scouting. however the certificate from the day camp will remain in his portfolio just in case as it demonstrates scout spirit
  16. Applause for scoutmasters counseling camping merit badge. He has to keep the records anyway of who was in attendance at each function and knows what goes on at the camp usually. It just makes too much sense for him to counsel that particular badge. Our scoutmaster usually ends up signing off on a lot of summer camp and other council function partials as well. All in favor of den chiefs could have used the help as a den leader especially with the physical games. Have sent my son to the training but the packs just don't seem interested. His former cubmaster told him to wait another year. T
  17. "There have been scheduled events with those that are working towards these merit badges within the troop. Two deep leadership has been present during the events and the events are treated like any other, permission slips and tour permits are secured when they are taken to specifics locations to hike or cycle." If you have gone to all this trouble it is definitely a troop event. We give our boys credit for anything that is not just a regular troop meeting including individual attendance at district or council sponsered events. A boy up for First Class should have no trouble with the ten
  18. Guilty as charged. I resemble this remark over achieving home schooler but tell the moms to stay home. Our troop which is mostly home schoolers by design wants to play manhunt running at full speed through unfamiliar woods and do not understand why we wish to restrict this practice. Wanting to listen to a football game would be a distinct pleasure. Much better than the really stupid skits jokes and songs that the boys come up with to entertain themselves around the campfire. Come on mom its dark thirty how much more do we need to do?
  19. Try E-bay and keep trying items go quick but new ones come up.
  20. there are some fairly organized religions that will dispute the leader stuff too. They have no leaders all congregants being equal.
  21. Have the proverbial foot in both camps but I sometimes think the G.S. would be glad to see the last of me. The leaders seem to want no help except with transportation. Parents are not even welcome at meetings even if registered as leaders. As opposed to boy scouts where I am a rifle rangemaster, was range director for cub scout day camp, asm of the troop and attend roundtable and various other trainings regularly. I'd go to training if G.S. told me where any was. Had my daughter up at the range the last week of summer camp and we had bb gun range open as it was another group using the boy sc
  22. "Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps is a highly competitive summer youth drum corps in the Drum Corps International (DCI) circuit. It was founded in 1938 and is based out of Madison, Wisconsin. It is the third oldest corps in DCI; The Cadets, and the The Racine Scouts were both founded prior to 1938, in 1934 and 1927, respectively. The Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps currently belongs to the Madison Drum and Bugle Corps Association umbrella organization. The corps is one of two remaining all-male corps, the other being The Cavaliers. Being of Boy Scout origin, the corps symbol i

Show the signals used by officials in one of these sports: football, basketball, baseball, soccer, or hockey. 2. Explain what good sportsmanship means. 3. 24. If they are a boy scout they can shoot either merit badge or open shoot. We don't have state restrictions. Like to get then excited about it while they are still excitable. Of course our scout camp has a shooting team and always looking to recruit new talent. This spring we had a council sponsered field sports day where all scouts and scouters could come shoot rifle, shotgun, do archery and Rendezvous sports.
  25. I have several duck families of different types visiting my yard. Do we need seperate troops for muscovies and mallards or should they all be in the same troop ? We also need a pack for the little ones. The ducks actually listen better than some scouts I've seen, however they need serious sanitation training especially in digging cat holes. Maybe we can get the half wild cats hired as summer camp staff to teach them this instead of trying to eat the ducks all the time.
