DE's are more interested in Cubs.....Higher volumes and more flux in membership numbers.

Sorry to hear about your son's goals. I am hearing this same thing from my coworkers. Their adult children don't want children. It mystifies me. I hope when my children are of an appropriate age they will gift me with grandchildren. I hope you find a unit to your liking and headed the same direction, Remember the smaller less fortunate units in your search.

Other than stating that the lad started as a tiger. But Why? They obviously enjoyed the program and I see no need to recognize them beyond that.

Shakin my head. I wrote that in the OP that I, SM was not consulted because I would have told him no. the merit badge card was not signed by his SM.

Shakin my head here. Had a lad turn in a Merit badge card last night for Dog Care merit badge. It was signed by a councilor from the district list, the boy did not consult me before taking it. I know the family and they do not have a dog. So I ask the lad how he completed it with out owning a dog, Thinking maybe he used the neighbors, grandparents dog. Well his explanation was he had a cat and it is basically the same thing. I am of the opinion of sort of the same thing.....But no you need a dog to complete the log and take care of for 2 months. Thoughts. I am going to call the councilor tonight and ask if the lad told him he owned a dog and if he presented the log book. Either the lad lied or the councilor is not living up to his obligations and needs counciled or removed from the merit badge list. Once the card is signed it is earned. But this is about as blatant a NO GO as you can get. Thoughts.

So If you were honestly and truly qualified to teach a STEM topic why do you go to more training???? Kinda reminds me of the security guard that taught Atomic Energy merit badge........Hmmm really, you guys understand he is a security guard at Kmart

Oh my personal favorite, was a friend who is on our district committee is telling me that our District is in the hole by $50k. You have gotta explain that to me. The church that hosts round table is free, Presenters provide their own handouts, No day camp, No camporees, No training, No shirts, No awards dinner, So explain to me how this is possible.

No, Already had 10 years as a youth including Brown Sea, Jambo and philmont. Like many here I am tired of being held hostage by beading ceremony's. It is way over blown. If it were that good then they wouldn't have to resort to high pressure sales at roundtables to fill the courses. I met a fellow recently who has a ticket item toa recruit another scouter to atttend woodbadge

The lad who is fighting needs progressive discipline. Counciled with mom and dad, then suspended is the behavior continues. It is your responsibility to do so. your unit is currently violating youth protection. See the below link and look under youth behavior guidelines. Nike has it nailed. I never vent to parent or the boys. They have no idea of the problems our district has, ZERO district functions beyond round table, They have no idea of the Games our DE play with providing yard signs and free flyers to specific units. The recruiting games played, the re assignments of elementary schools. The Scouting world is very rosy for many of you folks, consider yourself lucky. We get ZERO support from district or council and it used to be the only time they would come visit was for FOS and to Pick up the cub apps and money after sign up night. They provide zero service.

Sooo, your assuming that the Professionals function like us Idealistic volunteers. Been around long enough to know that isn't the case.

Ya I am cynical...... We had a number of troops without packs associated and a number of packs without troops associated. It worked for the units and the boys, the boys would visit the unit and find one to their taste. So what did our then DE do.......He created a number of new troops to associate directly with Packs that did not have them. End result three years later all of the troops with out packs directly associated with the troops are folding. We have lost three troops this year from this, the last unit folded Monday last week. I can hear old Bando, In his best rah rah scout voice," Why didn't those lazy scouters go and create a Pack directly with their Troops?" Good question, Because every single school that could support a Pack did, and the Units that had multiple schools refused to give one up to a new unit. So the DE screwed several 40 year old troops for greed. Sure he met his numbers, but the poor new guy, is hosed, with more units folding than that idiot created. What about all that local scouting history he flushed down the toilet. I have had 4 DE's in the last 4 years, NONE of them has keep their word or delivered on the councils obligation to provide books and shirts as requested. I am not even going to get into the money one DE stole from me. Buy you guys think it is great and fine....so be it. I know a number of retired scouters who would make fantastic DE's. Life long scouters, these guys have 40 years in scouting and are completely selfless. They would do the job because they love it not because of a paycheck. Scouting in this country is in big trouble, If you guys are too blind to see it I am sorry.

It has been said here a million times.....A current or previous Cub Scout leader cannot stand a Boy Scout meeting. A boy led troop can be chaotic, most cub leaders are much more comfortable with all the lads sitting quietly being lectured with an adult or late teen speaking. But that isn't what it is all about, right? Scouting is a leadership experiment for the boys. I have seen a lad advance from meek to dictator to representative leader, and all over the spectrum.

How is your poker face? Do you have any tells? Can you lie to anyone and not carry any guilt? Stealing,? Can you lose expense reports, fail to turn in apps and funds associated with them and not feel bad about it? How do you feel about keeping your word? Is it optional or you spin a story to keep your ass out of hot water? you need to identify affluent units and influential people very quickly in your district Story telling, keep stringing people along with hope until your transferred out of your district to the new......hopefully the people you burned in the old district don't call the new one.

Really? You would think if he was trying to find a New CM he would at least talk to the parents of the boys involved. This morning I spoke with the Previous CM and told him what was going on and he said in no uncertain terms the unit was dead and the DE did not have permission from the Still registered unit leadership and the CO to do anything on their behalf. Far as sympathy for DE's???? Not so much. I have been screwed to the tune of nearly $1k by one from day camp expenses and an expense report that he lost. Been Lied to by 2 others and now this???? Shame our Pro's can't live the scout oath and law. It is dog dirty what they did to these families. I am seeing less and less good from Parent organization, now they are busy locally giving us black eyes. How many of those parents will tell other parents about what happened. This affects us locally in a huge way. Now we, volunteers, have got to try to make the situation right for the families.

Gotta love this one. Got off the phone with a lady who signed her young man up for scouting. Seems our new DE held a sign up night for a unit that folded in May. Well, she signed up the end of August and has yet to be contacted for a meeting or anything. This knucklehead, DE, Went, held a boy talk, then a sign up night for a unit that doesn't exist, now there are a number of parents who I am going to bet feel like the BSA stole their money. She got my number off of the yard signs advertising our troop. Beyond the Pro stupidity, I invited them to the Meeting night which is the halloween party with costumes and games, going over to their home tomorrow and having mom sign the transfer app, and signing them up for our Pack, Also giving her our info sheet to pass along to the other parents who signed up and are not receiving the scouting they paid for. Might pick up another 10 boys or so..... growing my troop thru the Pack...A shame more SM's don't understand that.
