Should units share the wealth?

I have no interest in becoming a cater. I just want to raise some money so my boys can go to summer camp, shirts when they out grow theirs and pay for camping. The entire year is $500 per boy including boys life and recharter. If I could raise $15,000 per year my program would be completely covered with nothing out of pocket for the boys. I have no interest in paying for white water rafting trips, funding Philmont or Northern tier trips. My units needs are more basic. I can see them tending the pit and becoming pitmasters. I don't want it to become a full time job. -

Lawyering.......Taking a term like night camping or under the Auspices of scouting and defining it to the single letter. I am not lawyering. KDD Lawyers. The night in a cave sleeping on bunks with toilets and prepared meals is camping. Or two boys out riding their bikes is under the Auspices because they are both boy scouts. We can do this all day Brew.....I am here for the boys and my boys will meet the requirement as written and a venture crew member teaching another venture crew member a skill meets those requirements. That is the bottom line for me. -

Bottom line is 1 in 10 woodbadger is an idiot.....Who are you going to remember the 9 great guys who probably never even mention they are woodbadgers or the one idiot who throws it in your face ever chance he gets. The problem is they congregate in groups at places like roundtable where they have an audience. I am a woodbadger, completed my ticket. Will never wear the beads, I don't need two pieces of wood to know who I am or show off for other people. -

The Kroger was gutted and a day care center.....I doubt the deli is still their intacted. I have researched the certificate and it is servsafe. my next step is to get with the CO's board and see about getting the kitchen upgraded.... I really like the idea of pulled pork sandwiches and smoked bake beans. 5 bucks a sandwich I can see making a bunch of money especially with it prepared on site. -

The smaller grocery stores have been converted to ethnic stores..... The Kroger was a day care center for a little while, The Ames has sat empty for 10 years now, The Big Bear Harts has been empty for more than 10. No idea why. I forgot we do have a hand full of used furniture and appliance stores. -

I returned my popcorn last Saturday. One of the ladies from the wealthy side of town was all up in arms because she was waiting in line and she needed popcorn for her Packs 5 store front sales. Why are you even bothering to sell popcorn you can pay for your program out of pocket. I should have said something, but I couldn't think of something that wasn't gonna start a fight. 5 cubs sorry to hear your struggling as well, but it is good to know I am not alone. -

Heck with inner city How about all the boys who are country poor too....I am hearing more storys about that too. I would love for my council to fulfill it's promise of support for these boys.......I would love some shirts and books......and lets not forget those camperships....... The last shirt I received was thrown in my face at roundtable by the DE. That was three years ago. I have since requested more and the request are unfilled. -

I am good with him teaching one of the skills to a fellow crew member....I am sure their is something in the list that a member needs. You confuse High Speed, Participation = completion, Low Drag, One and Done merit badge classes during meetings, with the intent of the Achievement -
How to scout a new troop ?

My entire troop committee is Life long scouters who are in their 70's they truly are about scouting. If they were physically able I am sure I would not be SM. They need a guy who is program, which is me. I intend on sticking around after my son and current crop of boys move on. Called a thing called giving back. Whether my roll is ASM or Committee member I will continue. -

Milk and Cookies at Den/pack meetings?

Talk about blocking out memories.... When I first started....The Pack started making the boys hot dogs because most of them would not eat dinner and complained they were hungry. Well after a few months of that siblings started to show up then parents....We went from feeding 20 boys a couple packs of hot dogs to feeding 60 families dinner on monday night.......All out of the leaders pockets because the Pack didn't have any money...... Then they complained about no onions, relish or chili to put on them. We needed to provide chips.....It didn't last very long....I think when the parents showed up it went one more week then it was done..... So the simple act of kindness got way out of control by greedy families Had that one repressed way back.....I will never forget the mom yelling at me the week we stopped it, What was she going to do for dinner? hmmmmm, go hungry, make something or go buy something. -
Should units share the wealth?

Our CO is a soup kitchen. local folks are not going to pay for a meal, Just that simple. Heck we have folks show up for a free meal at the Packs blue and gold banquet, They generally eat and run as soon as the program starts. Our city offers free christmas tree removal.....But the rich folks a crossed the beltway now. that might be an idea. I think your right.....Let the police cite us for soliciting.....I bet the FOX channel would love to rip that Cub mom to shreds......Blocking the ethinically diverse troop from raising funds in their suburb. So what do you charge for the christmas tree removal service??? -
Should units share the wealth?

We had a Krogers and Giant Eagle for a while. When they closed both of them there was a big news story, It was because of theft. Not from customers but from the employees. Every one they hired stole from them so they simply closed the stores. They showed video of employees loading boxes out the back of the store. employees ringing up family members with one can of soup and sending steaks and such down the line. Heck the fuel center caught a person selling fuel to her family and friends for .10 a gallon before the store opened. that was 15 years ago now.....The stores still sit empty. -

Well the travel center was a bust. Spoke with the manager and his first response was he didn't want a bunch of kids running around. My response was I could limit it to boys over 14. which he responded he didn't think that was a good idea. My response was we could have adults do it....Which he responded I don't want you peddling out in front of my station. Fair enough. -
I don't like a reward system for anything. Your unit must be flush in cash. We could never afford to award $2k a year to the boys for any reason.

You should see some of the rock head stuff that goes on over there. Kudu is over there getting bet up as well. What worries me the most is that website is a link from facebook and I fear that group is more representative of what is going on in scouting than is forum...... I am going to say that Scouter.com represents the .00001%'ers. Bryan on scouting represents the light and fluffy Facebook, millennial feel good everybody gets a trophy generation.

I would take the up on the camporee offer and see how the unit camps. They sound pretty good despite all of the woodbadge trained adults. The fact they are in teh best school district in the state means it is a wealthy area with parents who are engaged with their lads. Money means full uniforms, and a much more interesting program. I bet their gear is top notch too. Make your other visits....I am going to bet this is where you land. -
