  1. I view the COR as the proxy for the stockholders.
  2. Beg to differ here, the SM isn't parallel to the CC, he reports to the CC. Think of the CC as the Chairman of the Board and the SM as the CEO.
  3. True, the owner/wearer is part of the problem. However, I have two shortsleeved shirts, one with square tails and one with regualar tails (I wish I could find more like that one). The former works it way out and the latter stays tucked in through everything short of volleyball games. The operator is part of the problem but design has an impact as well.
  4. My daughter's troop is a mixed age troop and has been since she was a Junior if memory serves. It started as an expedient, the leader's older daughter was in another troop that was dying so she merged the two troops. It actually works very well. There's enough help to go around and meetings alternate weeks. Older girls one week, younger girls another with some of the older girls helping out with the younger ones. I don't know if it is part of the program but the girls have risen to the challenge and the older ones act as mentors and instructors to the younger ones. I wish that I'd have seen that much cooperation in my son's troop. :-(
  5. "It seems evident from uniforming that many of us have witnessed in some troops that even today's fabric cannot stay tucked in. " Very true Bob. That is most due to three things. The pants don't fit properly. They've outgrown their shirts so they are too short. Those danged square cut tails are useless.
  6. I guess that I'm fortunate that I don't have to drive to campouts anymore. My car gets decent gas mileage but I've used a lot of gas on some trips. We had one annual campout that was about 200 miles from home. There and back took a tank of gas. A few years back, that was $25, not unaffordable. Now it would be $80. Unlike most of the adults in my son's troop, I'm not making in the six figure range and $80 is real money. I'd probably still drive but I wouldn't turn down gas money if it was offered. At ten cents a mile, that would buy me half a tank so I'd still be out $40. I wonder how gas prices are going to impact FOS donatation from those in the lower end of the earning spectrum.
  7. New and different is usually cool to the young and not so cool to the older. Why is that? As we age, we usually learn that change for the sake of change is rarely a good thing and we also learn to evaluate the new and determine if it corrected any of the defects in the old. One big flaw with the new shirt just occurred to me. The new design offers no features to keep it tucked in. A slippery fabric isn't going to help keep it in. A square cut tail isn't a bit of help. Proprerly fit trousers probably would help but getting today's teens to buy pants that fit is like . . . I don't know but it's difficult. Maybe they could put rubber grippy things in the waistband like they have in my referee unifrom to hold the shirt in.
  8. " Gas prices are out of control! " Please explain to me how the President of the United States has control over the free market in which oil is traded. As for the economy being in the tank, it all started during the Democratic administration when US companies started shipping manufacturing to China to save a buck or two. I remember when Willie proudly announced that we had "turned the corner" and were no longer a manufacturing economy but a service economy. I guess he figured that we could survive as a country of Wal-Mart clerks.
  9. All I can say is, "Oh good lord. . . "
  10. "As my wife's uncle use to say, "Dumb as mud fence" is an accurate description of W. " That's why he graduated from an Ivy Leage School, earned an MBA, was governor of one of our largest states and is now President. And your accomplishments are? Based on the demonstrated writing and spelling skills of most of the people on this forum, few are any more intelligent than you assert W to be.(This message has been edited by Gold Winger)
  11. Yes but Barak doesn't like to admit to having him, since his son is part white, he's a racist like all whites.
  12. I was surprised to find that an Executive Board can be 50 people. That seems like way too many. Maybe the primary reason that they are there is for prestige and to donate money. 50 times $10,000 is a half million bucks. Since Scouts don't generate revenue for the Council by paying dues, that $.5 million would require a lot of popcorn sales.
  13. Willie getting a little strange was the least of it. As for credibility, let's look at Gern the great environmentalist (by his own admission). Does this person who loves nature drive a hybrid or an electric car? Nooooo. He drives a great big truck and a German autobahn cruiser. Smells like a duck to me but to a liberal it's okay because "he needs them." Now where's that "ignore" button.
  14. I'm confused. I thought that Brownies is three years as is Juniors, Cadets, and Seniors.
  15. "OK, specifically, Dubya lied to the entire country regarding the existence of WMD." I'm not convinced that there were no WMDs, especially since Hussein used them in the past. The UN gave him so much time to clean up, in that time, I could make it look like there had never been a labrador retriever in my house. As for the other stuff, Gern, you and yours have very little credibility with me. Like most liberals, you bend reality to fit your hypocrisies.(This message has been edited by Gold Winger)
  16. For the same reason that the people who play basketball don't make the rules.
  17. Still wondering what W lied about. Liberals always say that but then wave their hands around when asked about it saying, "You know, um, er, um. . . someone told me that he lied . . . " In the 50s people hated Truman, now he's revered as a great President. Everyone loves Kennedy despite his getting us embroiled in Vietnam and abandoning the Cubans at the Bay of Pigs. Where's the integrity there?
  18. Part of that might be because we have too many other things to do on Sundays. Long ago, Sundays were reserved for going to meetin' and having dinner at Grandma's. Maybe a picnic or the movies. Now everything happens on Sunday. Basketball, baseball, soccer. Super duper sales (remember when most stores were closed on Sunday?). How can you go to church when you get out at 11:45 and Johnny's game is at noon?
  19. "Just what category other than a ©(3) do yeh reckon a PTO would be, GW?" That's irrelevant, isn't it?
  20. It's about efficiency. All of the patrol boxes and everyone's personal gear goes into the trailer. One big van pulls the trailer which means that fewer cars need to go.
  21. Interesting. It agrees with that which I have believed for a long time.
  22. " I think its safe to say all Christians use the bible as the foundation, so if we use the same rule book, how different can the philosophies be?" Even in the RC church different priests can have different spins on things. One might emphasize youth programs and the next might be big on improving the choir. Look how many different interpretations of Scouting there are in BSA and all are supposed to be using the same book. The same is true of religion. If that wasn't the case, we'd all belong to the Orthodox Church.
  23. " It can cost da PTO its NFP status." Not likely. It might impact their 501©(3) status but not all non-profits are 501c3 organizations.
  24. "I was taught there are limited reasons to change churches:" Pardon me but that's downright silly. That's a rule created by people who wanted to keep folks from leaving their church. If I have a choice between praying in air conditioned comfort or sweating while praying, I'll go for comfort. Better programs for youth are an excellent reason for changing churches. Did Christ say we shouldn't change churches? " why do you even waste any energy justifying why you would never vote for Obama?" Who's justifying anything? I'm just stating why I don't like Obama.
