  1. Money, its a gas. Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.
  2. Catalog no? They don't show up on ScoutStuff.org. Maybe they are in double secret catalog. Found this http://www.scouter.com/forums/viewThread.asp?threadID=88293 So if you want to see the double secret rules and regulations, you need the permission of the Council Executive. Why? I agreed to abide by them but I can't follow them if I don't know what they are. Oh, I see. The rules change too frequently and they don't want old copies floating around. Yeah, right. 3. "Just to be clear, or to muddy the waters. whatever, but, homosexuality does not equal pedaphilia any more than heterosexuality determines that a person cannot be a pedaphiliac" Someone who likes 14 or 15 year old young men is not a pedophile. Depending on whether the attraction is exclusive to young men or there is an attraction to young men and men of his own peer group it would be considered either ephebophilia or just normal homosexual attraction.
  4. "Um, folks everybody lives in a flood plain. It is just characterized by higher or lower periods of flooding." Mebbe. Mebbe not. I live about 250 feet above the nearest creek and nearly 500 feet above the nearest river. For my house to flood, it would have to be a flood of biblical proportions.
  5. We did BORs every other Suday. It worked much better than having a billion of them the week before the COH (old system) or pulling them out of a troop meeting. All a Scout had to do was say, "Hey GW, I need a BOR for X!" and one would be convened. It made it easy for my BOR sub-sub-committee to plan. We'd also convene BORs at summer camp and on campouts.
  6. Metric system? Germany: metric and lost the big one. Italy: Metric and lost the big one. UK and US: Standard system and won the big one. UK: Metric and the empire collapsed. Spitfire, P-51, B-17, B-19, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo all standard. ISS: metric. Give me inches.
  7. As strange as it may seem, I concur with Bob.
  8. Manly men don't mind sleeping in a puddle of sweat. :-)
  9. "We hold the committee meeting at the same time as one of the troop meetings." Why?
  10. People, people, people . . . it should be apparent that it is in our best interest that we don't have ready access to the BSA rules and regulations, even though we agree to abide by them. Obviously this must be the case because that's the way that BSA wants it and that is as it should be because that's the way it is until it is different.
  11. "and there was no looting for big screen tv's and high end sneakers - that was a lie perpetrated by racist, right-wing commentators who didn't know what they were talking about" Sure. Okay. Yeah.
  12. " Also at this time, the LDS or the Mormon Church under Joseph Smith began to study Scouting program for their youth membership." Are you sure about that? Jos. Smith Jr. died in the 19th century and his son, Jos. Smith III, was pretty much retired from the church long before BSA was founded.
  13. "We have canvas frame tents at camp, and we run miles of extension cord for fans so that everyone can sleep." Good lord! Can you spell parlour scouts? Sheesh! Just open the flaps and you'll get a nice breeze through the tent.
  14. "What would you all do?" Going along with SctLdr's comments about the syllabus and videos, there isn't any time allowed for discussion. Also, the basic BSA premise is that if you sit in the room, you are trained. There really should be some sort of basic exam to get your certificates.
  15. "With any kind of pocket flap (OA, CS Outdoor activity, Whittlin Chip) the button is no longer usable anyway." The solution there is pretty simple. Just sew the flap onto the pocket flap at the top and sides, leaving the bottom unsewn.
  16. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. . . . Reasonable amount for an original BSA handbook? In decent shape, I've seen them go for $2,000.
  17. "Gee Gold Winger, if we took away sarcasm where would you post?" I'm wounded. I make many posts that have no sarcasm, cynicism perhaps but not always sarcams.
  18. "Heart of America is a 300 series Council." What! Bob was wrrrrr . . .. wrrrrr ...... wrooooo . .. . wrong?
  19. Moderator! Bob's being sarcastic!!
  20. Politics in Scouting? No way!
  21. "To make matters worse, there is no evidence that licensing adults protects children from harm. All that a CRB check does is find out what an individual has done in the past. It cannot predict what someone with a licence to work with children may do in the future." This is probably the most important statement in the article.
  22. Oh, I understand the challenge of bow hunting vs. rifle hunting. I just don't see why I should hump any more than I really need to. As for having my tent in another 75 years, if I'm still alive, I doubt that I'll be carrying a tent anywhere. For traditional, why stop with canvas? What's wrong with leather?
  23. Hey! We could insert the entire troop by parachute. A new Static Line merit badge. A new troop POR could be Jumpmaster.
