" Webelos and Cub Scouters in the tan shirts would still wear the navy loops." In my perfect world, Cub Scouters and Webelos should switch to gold loops, Varsity would have brown loops, and Venturing red loops. That way the loops would match the colors of the service star backs.

Who has the best Scout trailer?
Gold Winger replied to Trapper259's topic in Equipment Reviews & Discussions
What's the difference between delivering the patrol boxes by pickup truck or by trailer? -
Marine Recruiter or someone from the local JROTC or ROTC drill team. Scout master, scoutmaster looks so green, somebody peed in his canteen. or maybe for modern times, somebody peed in his Nalgene.

I'm sure that someone will chime in here with chapter and verse from BSA to respond to my ruminations but that's not what I'm looking for. The council size thread prompted me to ponder "why small councils?" or in some case just "why?" In many cases, it makes sense to have a small council because the next closest council is 50 miles away over unimproved roads. I'm wondering about councils like the "Piedmont Council" in California (there's another Piedmont Council in North Carolina). 1,000 Scouts? Just one district? Apparently in the same area is another small council that serves only the city of Alemeda Calif. So there are two small councils embedded in the San Francisco Bay Area Council. SFBAC is fairly small, only about 300 units which is the size of my new mega-district Why not merge the three councils and make a bigger council? Marin Council seems to be another small council, only a few miles away. Any thoughts?

Marching is pretty easy, it is just walking at a regular pace with everyone following you. Ideally, a quick time march is 120 steps per minute. Calling cadence is pretty simple too. "Left, right, left, right, left" Calling jodies, the rhyming chants, gets more difficult because you have to remember them and I don't anymore. Maybe ask your Scoutmaster for some help.

"Would a twit be a stupid dorky nerd?" No, a twit is an entirely different animal.

"I have no idea what a camp uniform is . . ." That is sad, truly sad.

Sorry, I can't see the purpose in humping 15 lbs of tent when I can get by with 3 lbs.

"If you're wearing a strip over your pocket that says "Duetch," you'd better be prepared to have a conversation in German." If your patch says "Duetch" you may be speaking somethin' but it ain't German. :-)
-
"then again, what is the difference between nerd and dork? Thats ok, I admit to being both... " I believe that a "dork" is a stupid nerd.

If it is a "camp uniform" then it is a uniform and the hand salute should be executed.

Probably the same thing. If I was his father, he'd be in bigger trouble at home for lying to me. Then again, maybe the boy was telling the truth and the SM was lying. Hmmmmmmmm.......

Hey! My moderation has been moderated. Wow! Talk about immoderate moderation. I bet this will be moderated too.

My grandmother. Yoda? Doesn't quoting fictional character portrayed by puppets put you into a whole new category of nerdiness? Next you'll be quoting Lambchops or Topogigio. :-)

OGE, who are you quoting?

Everyone is up in arms because the town has issues. How dare the town say anything negative about a 17 year old boy. I'm with Bob on this one, if the requirements aren't met, the Scout shouldn't get his Eagle. It's not the town's fault or the commissioner. Hundreds of Scouts follow the rules for Eagle every month, where is the fairness for them is another Scout doesn't have to follow the process? Alas, we now live in a world where "trying hard" is supposed to be considered the same as doing. "Do or not do, there is no 'try.'"

Color me simple but I'm really confused here. Did these people just show up with a checkbook and say, "Hey! We want to be on the district committee!"? What was their motivation? Did they just want the uniforms?
-
"Oh Contrare Karen, these two adults used to go around in their uniforms bragging and showing off all their knots, beads, etc. at roundtable even though they never once helped out in a unit or with a council youth event." Never? They just showed up at a District meeting and said, "Here were are!" Interesting.

I'm glad that you caught me in such an egregious err Bob, if you did. Thank you for straightening that out, if you did. Now I'll do what Sherlock Holmes did when Watson explained the structure of the solar system to him. (This message has been edited by Gold Winger)

About 50,000 youth and 24,000 adults for me. I'm amazed that a council could exist with only 1,000 Scouts. FOS must be amazing to be able to afford an SE. LA strikes me as interesting having two councils to serve the area. LA Area Council and Western LA County Council I guess as long as they are making their numbers and not going into the red, BSA doesn't care. I went to Piedmont Council's Web Site. 1,000 Scouts. They say that it costs $450 per per per Scout and a $100 per yer per Venturer to support the council. Compare that to my council which claims expenses of $35 per Scout per yer. I'm glad that I don't have to listen to their FOS pitch. (This message has been edited by Gold Winger)

Really have to wonder what is going to happen with all of this information that ChoicePoint is gathering on us. Background information, bank information. How soon before they start selling lists of who has how much money? I don't like it and I don't think that it's going to do a darned thing for the security of BSA. I also don't like the SSN having become our national identity number although colleges and the insurance industry has moved away from that. Those who would exchange freedom for security deserve neither.
