Not sure what likewise means in this context. However on the subject co-ed Scouts BSA units my response would be that there are not any co-ed options for Scouts BSA units. Each unit has its own charter and would need to follow the requirements for that charter. Rolling your own "whatever" and calling it Scouting is a risk I'd not suggest anyone take with youth or their standing with the organization. Yeah, exactly. And it's for good reasons. It's not greed, actually. If scouts, like civil servants, weren't allowed to engage in political actions even as private citizens (not using any scouting logos, not in uniform, etc) then that would undercut the movement's goals, and the mom's frustration would make total sense. But that's not the case. The problem isn't fundraising for a cause that isn't scouts, the problem is associating the movement with political causes. Like you say, which cause doesn't really matter, but IMO it's worse when the cause is very divisive.

The Stay only applied to Trust operations. The plan is still under appeal and scheduled for an April 9 hearing before the Circuit court of appeals. No one expects the Circuit to rule before SCOTUS does since any ruling would quickly be reversed if SCOTUS disagrees in Purdue.

YUP!!! I always say "If you make 'em choose, you gonna lose!" Do your sports and come to whatever meetings and outings you can. If you want an elected position...then it's a different conversation.

Just to wrap this one up...in case anyone was keeping score....after discussions with the COR, the District Executive, and the Council Executive, this Scouter was asked to step down from any and all leadership positions in the Troop. It was painful because this person's heart was in the right place, but the decision was in the best interest of scouting. Thanks everyone for their input and guidance.

Scouting can be great for many kids but for some it can also feel like they are being benched if they aren't into the increasing focus on advancement and Eagle. About 60 million kids out of 74 million are involved in sports. 4-H has been growing steadily and there are 6.5 million US kids enrolled. Obviously, these activities are increasingly appealing and affordable to a broader range of kids. There are less than a million in scouts and that decline has not been caused by sports or 4-H or anything other than scouting's own difficulties in remaining relevant, relatable and accessible to kids.
