Welcome our other New Moderator, OldGreyEagle

While Hops_Scout will do a fine job representing the interests of the youth who read and post here, I can't think of an adult on this board who has more consistently demonstrated how a good, fun Scout leader should act than OldGreyEagle.

I am very happy to announce that he has agreed to serve as a Moderator in this forum. He'll be able to edit, move and delete posts within the forum to help keep things organized and ensure quality content. Remember, when you post here you are not just participating in a discussion, but creating a searchable archive of ideas and resources that will be used for years to come. Nearly a hundred thousand people a month use this web site, and the "living archive" of content you're helping create will be here long after many members leave. How beneficial will your mark be to those who follow?

OldGreyEagle , it's an honor to work with you on this site, and thank you for your willingness to serve.

Oh... but does that mean they won't be able to give their own opinions anymore?

I have seen people try to be both a moderator and a participant in the same forum at the same time. It often leads to the person becoming either one or the other but not both.

But I think the two people who have been chosen could handle it, if anyone could.

I hope they almost exclusively stay participants, and their opinions are ALWAYS welcome. Both of these folks have consistently demonstrated "moderation" in the way they have presented themselves on the board, and have been model Scouts/Scouters in their posts, as far as I'm concerned.Here's a little secret that I forgot to mention to them privately: no one will know which moderator has edited a post. If a post has to be edited, it will just say "Edited by a Staff Member"... if anyone gets upset or disagrees with the actions of a "Staff Member", you should always assume that it was me, SCOUTER-Terry, that took the action that upsets you so, and point your angst this direction. I'll still be editing posts and moderating, I just have a little more help now, from a couple of good guys! (This message has been edited by a staff member.)

My sleepy smile just got wider. MR. OGE is an excellent choice. I think you've done the right thing in the right way and with the right people. It doesn't get any better than that.

MR. OGE -- just don't use the position to sing more bad songs to us -- although the words again to Green Grow the Rushes Ho and the Cat Came Back would be most welcome right now.

I'd love to sing them to my nephew, even if only by tape.

"The Cat Came Back" is an interesting song. It can be traced back to 1893 and a number of versions of it have popped up.

http://www.bluegrassmessengers.com/master/catcameback3.html

http://www.cs.utah.edu/~scook/html/cat.htm

are two slightly different versions and at

http://frogstar.com/mp3/index.asp you can find an mp3 file of Rolf Harris' version. You may remember that Rolf Harris did "Tie Me Kangaroo Down"

Old Mister Johnson had troubles of his own

He had a yellow cat which wouldn't leave its home;

He tried and he tried to give the cat away,

He gave it to a man goin' far, far away.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The man around the corner swore he'd kill the cat on sight,

He loaded up his shotgun with nails and dynamite;

He waited and he waited for the cat to come around,

Ninety seven pieces of the man is all they found.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

He gave it to a little boy with a dollar note,

Told him for to take it up the river in a boat;

They tied a rope around its neck, it must have weighed a pound

Now they drag the river for a little boy that's drowned.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

He gave it to a man going up in a balloon,

He told him for to take it to the man in the moon;

The balloon came down about ninety miles away,

Where he is now, well I dare not say.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

He gave it to a man going way out West,

Told him for to take it to the one he loved the best;

First the train hit the curve, then it jumped the rail,

Not a soul was left behind to tell the gruesome tale.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The cat it had some company one night out in the yard,

Someone threw a boot-jack, and they threw it mighty hard;

It caught the cat behind the ear, she thought it rather slight,

When along came a brick-bat and knocked the cat out of sight

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

Away across the ocean they did send the cat at last,

Vessel only out a day and making water fast;

People all began to pray, the boat began to toss,

A great big gust of wind came by and every soul was lost.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

On a telegraph wire, sparrows sitting in a bunch,

The cat was feeling hungry, thought she'd like 'em for a lunch;

Climbing softly up the pole, and when she reached the top,

Put her foot upon the electric wire, which tied her in a knot.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The cat was a possessor of a family of its own,

With seven little kittens till there came a cyclone;

Blew the houses all apart and tossed the cat around,

The air was full of kittens, and not a one was ever found.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

The atom bomb fell just the other day,

The H-Bomb fell in the very same way;

Russia went, England went, and then the U.S.A.

The human race was finished without a chance to pray.

But the cat came back the very next day,

The cat came back, we thought he was a goner

But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

Away, away, yea, yea, yea

Congrats OGE! I hope the songs do continue!

"I learned very early in life that without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend; without a song. So I keep singing a song."

Elvis Presley - January 16,1971

OGE --

I was kidding about the songs. I hope you know I enjoy them.

FOG --

Thank you for the lyrics. They're slightly different than the ones I remember and there are more verses than I ever knew -- I appreciate it! I will modify parts and sing them with joy to my nephew.

Do either of you have a resource to the lyrics to the now forbidden Mountain Dew?

Thank you to both of you. Perhaps I should change my nickname to an easy to type 3 letters . . .

Oh yeah . . .
