  1. 1. No, not even venturers past 18. 2. Eagle 94
  2. As another Libertarian(right leaning though), I am pretty much with on these, but with just a few minor tweeks 1. I am in favor of the military on the border, but not the Army or the Corps. I like the idea of creating a sixth branch branch of the military for border protection. We have the Coast Guard for our water border, why not a Border Guard for the land borders? 2. I do not think that we should have term limits, but I am in favor of repealing the 17th amendment. 3. www.fairtax.org !!! 4. Balanced Budget Ammendment- Agree 100%, but paying down the national debt would have to be phased in over several years. 8. Iffy on this one.
  3. It could be that the aims of the Royal Rangers would be closer to the aims of the church that the aims of the BSA: BSA: Growth in moral strength and character Participating citizenship Development in physical, mental, and emotional fitness Royal Rangers: To instruct, challenge and inspire our boys in the areas of Bible doctrine, Christian service, moral conduct and basic beliefs of our church through interesting activities boys enjoy. The purpose of the Royal Ranger: To evangelize boys for Christ To develop the total boy for Christ (spiritually, physically, mentally and socially) To keep boys in our churches
  4. Having joint activities can be a great recruitment tool for the crew, and give the younger members of the troop something to look forward to. But, this should only happen a few times a year in my opinion. The programs are different, and if the only activities that the crew is doing is with the troop, it is little more than a coed troop.
  5. Is the scoutmaster inviting the Crew on these campouts?
  6. asm 411, I would say announce the scouts advancement at the next unit meeting, badge the next meeting after the troop is able to purchase it, and everything else at the ECOH.(This message has been edited by click23)
  7. Again from the trusty "Advancement Committee Policies and Procedures" manual: "Four Steps of Advancement 1. The Boy Scout learns. .... 2. The Boy Scout is tested. .... 3. The Boy Scout is reviewed. .... 4. The Boy Scout is recognized. When the board of review has certified a boys advancement, he deserves to receive recognition as soon as possible. This should be done at a ceremony at the next troop meeting. The certificate for his new rank may be presented later at a formal court of honor."
  8. Eagle92, you may be very well correct on the year, as I was only 10 or 12, depending on the year, I really don't remember. The one that I listed was from the link I provided to Mike Waltons site.(This message has been edited by click23)
  9. A few of the comments here have really pushed my buttons: ""He completed the requirements so we have to pass him". -Absolutely not true." While I agree with what you say about him not being prepared. The EBOR should have explained that he missed his appointment and he need to rescheduled. But how can a EBOR fail a scout who has compleeted all of the requirements "the Scout hadn't shown that he was worthy of the rank" If you are implying anything other than the scout did not complete the requirements, the EBOR was wrong. "Not everyone will become an Eagle. The Scout that demonstrates that he wants that rank shows the difference between a Life Scout and an Eagle." Last time I checked the requirements, and it mentions nothing of the sort. "the Scout hadn't shown that he was worthy of the rank" Again, this is not part of the requirements. Here are a few points from "Advancement Committee Policies and Procedures" "an Eagle Scout candidate may only have one board of review. All steps beyond an initial board of review fall under the appeals process" "No council, district, unit, or individual has the authority to add to or subtract from advancement requirements." "If a positive, unanimous decision is not reached, then two possibilities exist: 1. If the Scouts 18th birthday is not imminent and the board of review feels the Scout needs to improve in certain areas within a defined time frame, the board of review may adjourn and then reconvene at a later date and continue the review of the Scout. 2. If the vote was final, the boy must be informed of his options for appealing the decision and the proper process for an appeal" jet526, I can understand your disappointment in the outcome of the EBOR, I firmly believe that the outcome was correct. 10. "And then decide not to wear the "world crest" unless you've been out of the country on scouting business" Mr. Boyce, I believe that you were refering to a personal choice, and not the requirments of the patch, which there are none for. Just to not confuse anyone, what you posted above was dropped in 1991, now we have the "International Activity Award" in its place. The world crest is now used "AS A SIGN OF WORLD BROTHERHOOD AND UNITY WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SCOUTING COMMUNITY." Here is a pretty good explanation of all of this http://www.mninter.net/~blkeagle/crest.htm
  11. This is from the youth application: "Parent Agreement: I have read the Cub Scout Promise and I want my son to join the pack. I will assist him in observing the policies of the Boy Scouts of America and of his packs chartered organization. I will While he is a Tiger Cub, serve as his adult partner and participate in all meetings and activities and approve his advancement.* While he is a Cub Scout, help him grow as a Cub Scout and approve his Cub Scout advancement. While he is a Tiger Cub, Cub Scout, or Webelos Scout, attend monthly pack meetings and take part in other activities; assist pack leaders as needed. *If the parent is not serving as the adult partner, the parental signature on the application indicates approval of the adult partner and also if the adult partner does not live at the same address as the Tiger Cub, a separate adult application is required." It appears that they can, but they must fill out an adult application if they do not live at the same address as the tiger. I am not sure what the position code for tiger partner is, but it can be found on your current charter or by asking your DE.

    Which insignia?

I would say wear they ASM patch with his eagle knot, and take the eagle knot off at the COH.
  13. One of the best scoutmasters that I know does not even have any boys of his own, and has been and ASM and SM for 30 years this year. He was an eagle and want to give back to a program that he loves. I am an assistant district commissioner, and have no children. And like the scoutmaster above, I just want to give back to scouts.
  14. Eamonn, I met Keith Christopher, the new Sea Scout national director, at PTC this summer. He seemed like a great guy and was very informative. Once I got back home I sent him an email asking him a question and he responded promptly, I would recommend sending him an email asking him what is going on.
  15. We have been told here in Tennessee that units cannot use their COs TIN. Our scout shop will not even accept the TIN from the CO, and said that rule came from the state department of revenue. I guess that those been counters have no idea how the BSA charter system works.
  16. "Does that make sense?" So when did the BSA start making sense with their rules? Here is the online isingia guide: http://www.scouting.org/media/insigniaguide/03.aspx It is under "Temporary Insignia".
  17. Info, I am going to have to disagree with you. This is the quote from the insignia guide: "Female leaders wearing either the traditional yellow Cub Scout leader blouse, the optional tan leader blouse, or the Venturing blouse, may wear one temporary insignia centered above the Boy Scouts of America strip." It clearly says "tan leader blouse, or the Venturing blouse".
  18. chikara, How about the arrowhead honor award?
  19. Two things for you from the insignia guide: "Female leaders wearing either the traditional yellow Cub Scout leader blouse, the optional tan leader blouse, or the Venturing blouse, may wear one temporary insignia centered above the Boy Scouts of America strip." "Districts are operational arms of the local council. Individuals are not identified as residents of a district, but of the local council and the Boy Scouts of America. For this reason district insignia is not authorized for wear on the uniform. Where it seems desirable to identify district participation in council activities, district flags or banners may be authorized. They are described in the flag portion of this book."
  20. "With Commissioners now having new duties and responsibilities" Eamonn, I posted similar information that was mentioned at PTC this summer, but it was only an idea from the MacKenzie study. Are referring to my post, or have you heard it from a different source?
  21. Another option is contact the Golden Empire Council and get the name of the local DE. Contact him to see if knows of any troops that have vans, they may be more than willing to help you guys out.
  22. rrclark1, I have a "1" that I believe is from the early to mid 70's in almost new condition. It is fully embroidered, with vertical stitching on the red background, and it is yours, just pm me with you name and address.
  23. ScoutNut, venture patrols may earn the Venture letter and activity pins, but not the Denali Award. I know I have seen a better reference than this, but this is from the current "BOY SCOUT/VARSITY SCOUT UNIFORM INSPECTION SHEET OFFICIAL PLACEMENT OF INSIGNIA": "Merit Badge Sash. If worn, merit badges are attached to front (and back, if needed) of sash. Venture/Varsity letter is attached at bottom front corner. Temporary insignia may be worn on back." When I get home I will try to dig up more information on this.
  24. Venture patrols can earn the varsity letter and activity pins, er venture letter and activity pins. Members of regular patrols cannot earn these, and for some boys that might be enough for them to become interested in it, for others it will result in a blank stare. More info on the letter and pins can be found in the Varsity Scout Guidebook.
  25. Here is the procedure that Ed refers to: "A youth from another country who either temporarily resides in, or has moved permanently to, the United States may join a BSA unit and participate in the BSA advancement program. He must present to the council service center available evidence of membership and advancement level from his previous association. Having done this, he then must appear before the district or council advancement committee with at least one member of the receiving unit committee present to review his previous advancement work and to determine which BSA rank he is qualified to receive. This policy applies to all ranks except Eagle Scout. The BSA rank of Eagle Scout cannot automatically be considered the equivalent of another associations highest rank. A Boy Scout who holds his associations highest rank could qualify for the rank of Life Scout, and the district or council advancement committee should prescribe certain merit badges for him to earn before consideration for the rank of Eagle Scout. He must also fulfill all other requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout. This policy also applies to members of the BSA who, while living abroad, have earned advancement in another Scouting association."
