  1. What my DE told me and I can find nothing written one way or another - since the Charter is a contract between the CO & the Unit, if the CO no longer exists, the Charter is null & void.
  2. We're currently going thru something similar. My DE provided a form (looks locally made) that the original IH signs that releases the Troop # and assets. Check with your DE.
  3. My Troop: 12 Scouts, 3 Patrols (5, 4, & 3), roughly aged based but the Scouts broke into the groups they wanted as Patrols. 1 Patrol 14-17 y.o.; 1 Patrol 11-12 y.o.; 1 Patrol 11-13 y.o. SPL is Patrol Leader of the senior Patrol. Annual planning starts with Patrol brain-storming. The PL's lead that and gather the ideas to bring to PLC. The different Patrols have different abilities; therefore, they set up camp outs with different difficulties. Example- backpacking. Sr Patrol started on the trail Friday night and had a longer route than the others. The others (only 2 Patrols at t
  4. If y'all haven't seen the Boys Life Programmer Planning, they're worth a look. I had been using an Excel form in the past and ran across this last year. It was worth the $1.50 & $0.75. Link
  5. I'd really like to see a best known practice section. National tried it once with a forum attached to myscouting.org but it didn't have much.
  6. Volume 2 of the Troop Leader's Guidebook will soon be out! Link This one is supposed to be written for experienced Troop Leaders. IF YOU were writing this volume, what topics would you include?
  7. Things I (SM) get involved with quickly - physical confrontations, name calling & cursing. Name calling & cursing get a talking to. Physical confrontations - get sent home & a meeting involving the parents & I. Arguing / bickering happen. I talk with PLs afterword to find out what's going on and how it was resolved. Sometimes, I provide strategies to help resolve differently.
  8. Couple of things: 1. "or been able to go on many outings (told not appropriate for his age/rank)" - Sounds like you should talk with the Committee Chair or the Outdoor/Camp Chair to get a list of the upcoming camp outs that are appropriate for his age/rank. And to calmly discuss your concerns. 2. "My son has gone to the planning meeting " - this is a great thing for him to do. He should continue to provide suggestions for himself & others like him.
  9. That's between them & their parents. It's not a Scouting event. In fact, I encourage it.
  10. Willful, physical harm to another Scout.
  11. Got 2 possibles. Setting up formal meetings with them while continuing the search.
  12. Update #2 - got the phone call from the COR last night. It's official, the church will be closing it's doors and the UMC district will be selling the property. The COR did say the Troop can keep the equipment when we move to another CO.
  13. In the past, our Troop has done LED "throwies". Link to some instructions. We used address labels printed with our Troop website url. Cost was $0.25 each. The Scouts get to show the visitors how to make them and the visitors walk away with something with our name on it. The website says they last 1-2 weeks, but ours have been last 2-3 months.
  14. One of the Aims of Scouting is the development of physical, mental & emotional fitness. Bubble-ball and it's like encourage Scouts in the development of physical fitness.
  15. For those who are not familiar with Bubble-ball, here's the video from their website. When I first saw it played, I thought this is every first year Mom's dream. Finally their Scout will be wrapped in a giant bubble before he interacts with others or the outdoors.
  16. I saw this last week but since April 1st was Friday I thought maybe it was a hoax. Apparently not. Bubble-ball similar games have been banned. My first thought is a dumbfounded wow. I witnessed Bubble-ball at Winter Camp. The Scouts had fun and they were running around. The cushion provided by the bubble was ~2 ft thick.
  17. Individual Scout Accounts should be discussed in another thread.
  18. Without know the other side of the story any reassurances that things "will all work out" would be blowing smoke. A few things I note & will comment on: 1. Let the SM know in private of your son's diagnosis. Things like eye color are readily apparent. Things like a diagnosis can mean a different communication style is needed. 2. Why is the unit commissioner hubby "going round and round"? Is hubby the UC of this Troop? Hopefully not. This sounds like it is aggravating the situation.
  19. Update - The IH has told me the church is facing financial difficulties and more details would be following. No word (and no message returns) from either COR or IH since then. Before last night's meeting, a group of people was touring the building with a realtor. When I introduced myself, they let me know they're from another church down the road looking to buy the building. Time frame may be this year. I've reached out to the IH again. It brought up another thought in my mind. The current church is the Charter Organization. If they no longer have a building, they (& the
  20. Clarification needed. Who will be driving the Jeeps? Adults? or Scouts?
  21. The Scouts pick. When we were 1 Patrol, they picked "Creepers" as they all played Minecraft. 1 Scout found a place that would custom make 5 and they ordered them. $9/patch. When we got big enough to have 2 Patrols they retired the Creepers. I recommended they find patches that were cheaper. They found the patches at the Scout Shop. And became the "Merlin" Patrol (type of falcon) & the "Ghostly Goats". Both patches were available at the Scout Shop.
  22. Last night's meeting: -Opening flags -Skills instruction - Leave No Trace - leave what you find -Patrol Meeting -Inter Patrol activity - human-sized hungry hippos.
  23. They have a vague idea. I've told them repeatedly but they went 15+ years with little to or no contact with the Troop so they kinda get it. The previous COR was the CC. Clarification point - the church hasn't said they're going bankrupt yet. They have said they're having financial difficulties. I'm just pursuing thoughts that arise in order to be prepared.
  24. Our current chartered organization is currently facing financial troubles. The other post regarding the relationship between the CO & the Troop got me thinking. IF the CO declared bankruptcy, can the Troop's equipment, bank account, etc. be used by the CO to pay off the debt? Our bank account & resale value of the equipment is small but I'm thinking it COULD happen. Anyone ever have this happen to them?
