Lost Webelos I wants to come back NOW for Webelos II
SemperParatus replied to ScoutMomAng's topic in Cub Scouts
If it were me, I would uphold the requirement and give the scout the choice of starting fresh in boy scouts in 2 weeks (assuming the age requirements are satisfied) or working over the summer on his AOL with your other Webelos den. Either way, he can't go wrong. Leading two Webelos dens at the same time...wow! -

Kurt, I see a long and exciting career as a scout leader in your future. Welcome to the roundtable.

Hello and welcome. Have a sit and share some stories.

Welcome to the forum. Best of luck to you in finding a troop in your area. If you haven't already done so, make contact with your scouting district for a list of troops to visit in your area. Here is the BSA Grand Canyon Council website, with the list of districts, names and phone numbers. http://www.grandcanyonbsa.org (This message has been edited by SemperParatus)(This message has been edited by SemperParatus)

You go girl! Nice job. Good luck.

Congratulations! Sounds like a real Rocky Mountain high. Best of luck to him in his future endeavors.

Why do I get the feeling that by the time this thread ends, the BSA will have released a new pair of threads.

Our troop camping counselors follow the Ed Mori interpretation.

How do folks handle non-prescription drugs? On our Trip Permission Form, we have a section where the parent can authorize the SM/ASMs/Adult Trip Leader to dispense Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl and/or Sudafed (parent checks off which ones) if deemed necessary. Had a scout with a severe headache once and couldn't track down the parents by phone. Someone gave him some Tylenol, but we felt that should be something to get pre-approval for.

I would be inclined to count them as service hours (for advancement purposes) provided the campground is not a for-profit business and the campsite fee that would otherwise have been charged is not significant (e.g. < $10). For example, doing a 4 hour project for a state park where the allocated campsite fee per boy is $5 for the weekend sounds like service to me. Doing a 4 hour project for a privately owned campground where the allocated campsite fee is $30 seems like a bartering arrangement.(This message has been edited by SemperParatus)

Congratulations to you and Mark. He has good reason to be so excited...boy scouting is a blast.

It is getting mighty expensive!

"Our balance is healthy, say in $3,000 range". Is that before or after the liability for any scout account balances? If it is after (i.e., free and clear money not earmarked for a scout), how many scouts are in your troop? If 50 scouts then the troop is sitting on $60 per boy for 'future' use - not too big of a deal. If 10 scouts in the troop, then troop would be sitting on $300 per boy and I would be thinking rebate time! -

What's wrong with the picture is lack of communication. The financial records need to be 'open book'. At each committee meeting, our Treasurer provides a current financial statement (balance sheet and income statement), a comparison to the annual budget and a financial summary of the previous month's trip - fees charged less itemized list of expenses. If this information is not available, or not being made available, then you should speak with your CC and Treasurer. I think you know the scout recharter cost is nowhere near $60 - that must include troop dues. Our troop...all adults (leaders and otherwise) pay same trip price as scouts (no scout subsidy)...no reimbursements for gas or tolls...weekend trips generally range $15 - $30 (depending on admission fees, etc.)...all trips are priced to breakeven...we don't do a $250 fall encampment (that sounds very expensive, I hope it is worth it)...you left off high adventure - that can get very expensive...we have a couple of families with 3-4 scouts in our troop - I can only imagine the expense. -
Sounds like Mr. Naughton needs to grow up. Stealing personal property of others is such a mature manner of protest. Perhaps a couple of months in a foxhole rather than lounging in a college dormitory would help him to understand the world a little better. I especially enjoyed all of his constructive ideas for dealing with terrorists that would seek to kill innocent people and destroy our way of life.

Speak with the institutional head. Cajun, a couple of days ago you wanted ideas for kicking the old CM out of your pack. Now, you are looking for ways to can your COR. You are scaring me. Sometimes, you just have to work with people you don't like or respect. That is especially true as CM. BTW, it is not within your "realm of power" to replace the COR. In fact, it is 'within their realm" to replace you. Please tread carefully.(This message has been edited by SemperParatus)

Hi. Nice to hear about another successful scouting family. Think Spring!

Welcome to the forum. I know you will really enjoy looking at scouting through your son's eyes. Some things have changed, but the important stuff never changes.

I would tell them... Sometimes in this life you will meet people that out of jealousy and low self-esteem will break the rules or force others to break the rules for their benefit so that they can obtain what others have secured through hardwork, dedication and sometimes pure luck. While it can be infuriating to see that happen, think for a moment about the pitiful soul of that person as they go through life constantly coveting what others have and tortured by the realization that their efforts are inadequate, leading them to resort to bullying, backstabbing, trickery, theft and a host of other immoral acts. Their struggle for recognition and appreciation, at the expense of others, will forever haunt them. It is my greatest hope that your life is one of contentment and appreciation for the blessings you have received.

Welcome. Glad to hear that scouting has been a positive experience for you and your family.
