Wow! An Authenticity Booklet! Wow! Me wearing designer sunglasses? Eye can't see that happening. -
Call me crazy... If 'r' is a reference to the feminine gender, then I think that venerable retailer, Toys' R Us may actually be code for something else. If R=Er=Her (as j in kc points out) then the name can be translated as Toys Herus. Now, as many of you know, Herus is a German manufacturer of chastity belts. So, it would appear that Geoffrey the Giraffe could be selling a little more than toys from aisle 12.

1. No 2. Wouldn't hurt 3. I would suggest letting the dens do it during their den meetings rather than pack meeting night.

dkriss, Welcome to the forum. Our troop does not have any policy to that effect. Some of our Den Chiefs have worked with the parent's (or little brother's) den and some have worked with dens where there were no relationships. As long as the scout is engaged and reflective of his experience, IMO it does not make a big difference as to who the den leader may be provided they are willing to work with the scout to make the position meaningful. What is the purpose of the policy? Is it out of a concern that the parent den leader may be too demanding on their own son, or too lenient? Or some attempt to foster independence? If independence, do you have a similar policy to forbid SM son's serving as SPLs, NSP ASM son's serving as Guides, etc.?

Never heard (or read) that one before either. What do they propose in the case of a boy joining scouts at age 9, 12, 15?

If the uniform was from Bangladesh and cheaper,?

Now that has to be the most overly simplistic way of looking at business I have ever heard of. I think your contention that profit margins are static and price elasticity does not exist flies in the face of basic Keynesian economic theory. -
'We don't smoke, we don't chew...' That's from an old Homer & Jethro song (pre-Al Yankovich song parodists) - We're the Boys from Camp Kookamonga. But, I guess only a redneck might know that.
-
Anything wrong with 'SIR, YES SIR'? That should work well regardless of the relationship. (insert smiley guy)
-
I do not think it is racist - is the thought that because it is a phrase that originated in the redneck comedy community that it must have some racial undertones to it? I suppose some could view it as sexist, if thought of in that manner. I think the phrase is basically harmless. Though, I would advise against its use only because of the fleeting nature of such catchy phrases. Putting a logo on a troop neckerchief is an indication that it (the logo) will be around for quite awhile assuming there is a sense that the neckerchief design will become part of troop traditions. In another couple of years (or weeks or months), 'git r done' will go the way of 'let's boogie', 'TCB', and 'whaassuupp'. Better to stay clear of logos and tag-lines that could quickly become outdated.
-
Dug, I hate to say it. But, I was expecting a little more controversy than that from your inticing introduction. That one was just a little fizzle...no ooooohhhhhs....aaaaaahhhhhs So your troop takes its time for advancement. That is very commendable.
-
Oh boy! Can't wait for the fireworks. Is Dug your real name or just a nickname?

cc, A book? I've never considered myself much of a pundit.

jd, Why let OGE hog all of the fun? I'll meet you at 7 up there. Been feeling a little fried lately and I'm hoping a good weenie and soda will give me some extra pep, see.

alex, Not only should the DC stay out of this, but so should the CC. The scouts (or scoutmasters if the scouts are not willing to address it) should determine what 'discipline' should be taken. Personally, I would just have a SM conference with each boy to discuss it and be done with it. IMO, a ban from summer camp is way too severe. My guess is that neither the DC or the CC have been camping with boys for quite awhile. The DC's opinion is irrelevant to your unit and carries about the same weight as the opinions of the posters on this forum. Your CC's decision to go outside the unit for guidance on such a minor infraction demonstrates a disturbing lack of understanding of unit operations.

Whitewater Rafting Outfitters in West Virginia

One daze was enuff for us. Day 1 - AM Whitewater, PM - Caving. Day 2 - AM Moutain Biking, PM - Climbing. Day 3 - AM Aching, PM - Sleeping. -
Okay. Enough foolin' around. You know I have been burned before on some fundraising products. So, I went out to carrie's site to try and make some scent out of this and hope to shed some light on the money aspect. If there is one thing I hate, its to see money go down the drain. My fear was that the body gel would end up costing me an arm and a leg. Cause, I've bun there and done that (oops, wrong thread). Now here's the rub, it turns out her candle and gel fundraiser is one of the brightest ideas going and could be a perfect match for your unit.
-
They are used for practice knives (I believe).
-
Yeah...guess I'm a wittle wick today. I used to use some of that thar body gel, but it was just too pungent for me.
-
You're right...I'm burnt out.

We have used these folks before with success... http://www.aceraft.com/ There are a ton of outfitters in that area to choose from. The Upper New will probably bore your scouts to tears - it is mostly Class II. The Lower New is the way to go, although there are some intense V's that may be best to avoid for the younger and more squemish. On the Gauley make sure you reverse it...the Lower Gauley is where you want to be - Class III/IV. The Upper Gauley scared me to death and I would expect there may be an age limit of at least 16. A number of the outfitters have climbing courses and mountain biking. If you have a way to transport bikes do it - the mountain biking is superb and I would not trust the outfitter for rentals that would fit 12-13 year olds. Couple of things in wild and wonderful WV that we have done (and may require a little driving)... Seneca Rocks - they have expensive climbing courses but worth every penny. Age limit may apply. Outdoor Theater - Hatfields & McCoys play is very good and they should still have group discounts. Harpers Ferry - a little far north but good history stuff and nice tubing. I'll finish with one of my favorite West Virginia stories. I'm sitting in an Applebees and notice a very attractive blond lady in the next booth. I sneek a couple of peeks until she smiles at me...she had about three teeth in her head. Shudder!!!!! -
I don't know. You would have to ask the ScoutMaster of the house.
-
It is supposed to be in Texas during the National meeting. I believe some councils are conducting council-wide derbies with the winning cars being sent to the race. That's about all that I know.
