  1. BasementDweller's Question A question to the group. What is your Personal liability holding a position your not trained for ans something happens? Are you covered by BSA's insurance? I woud like to explore this a little more, but what kind of position are you refering to? Just a question basing it on the previous thread
  2. Lisa Yes I have tried calling my DE. Still have not heard back from her. Tired the office and her cell. Eagle92: I have no issues with the SE. HE seems to be on-board with the idea of "Put the outing in scouting" Anyway, I think my main point is that there seems to be a change that I have not heard about. Even though the round up is supposed to be in three hours, I still have not heard back from her.
  3. Thank you thank you thank you That is exacty what I was looking for. I knew that there had to be at least one counci that had it posted.
  4. Funny thing is, I read over this and until about 2 hours ago, I thought I had a pretty decent DE. She kept me in the loop and things were going OK. That is until 2145. I Get a call from another CM in my county and he asks about our round up. I told him that accorrding to our DE, the last thing that I heard at the last RT, was it would be tommorrow 9/10 at 7pm at the local elem school. He called her and she said that she had postponed it two weeks. This is after the SE has sent out e-mails encouraging everyone to have Round up early. This is also after I asked her to have an early ro
  5. I have to agree with calico. First I would confer with the higher ups at GSUSA If they give their approval, then why not. She has said that she realizes that she has made poor decisions. Like Calico said, this can have a positive influence on the other girls. But don't sugar coat it. Make sure they realize the true realities of being a young mother and what can really happen. As for the road trip. That would have to be up to her family. Maybe she would be best suited to go on the trip. She should be back in good physical health and maybe if you open your arms as sister'
  6. OK OK OK for all those that must know before I have access to the secret book I am serving on a council committee that has a primary responsibility of getting Cub Scouts outdoors camping again. We are the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Committee. I am an events organizer for council activities. I am working on a Family Camp Weekend right now and plan on putting together som speciality weekends in the future to attract Cub scouts back to day camp. No I have not been to NCS. Have not had the money or the time. I am not trying to replace a NCS director, but there are so few in the
  7. I can see it going on as to what GWD was saying. THere was no registration differences. As for what is going on with the boys that I have in question, I will have to find out more as things go along. I think that if they are registered with the troop and still working onthe arrow of light, then it will simply become an attachment to the uniform with no records. Which will only hurt the boy in the long run. I would prefer to have the boy earn it when he is supposed to. Just like I tell parents who ask if it is still too late to earn last years rank badge. No. your son was tran
  8. Dan COuld you send me some more information about that TOP GUN program. Sounds interesting
  9. Does anyone have an E-copy of the Shooting Sports for Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts, and Parents in Camp (No. 13-550,) We are in some planning stages of several camps and I was wondering if anyone had a copy of this that I could have for my computer.
  10. I do not know all the specifics about this, but I will just let you know what I was talking with the SM about. (I am a registered ASM) This is not my pack but another in our county. There are a couple of boys that have recently joined the troop, that are attending meetings. I heard the SM say that they were also still working on some of their WEBELOS itmes so they could get their AOL. I said "What?" The SM told me that they were still working on some of the AOL stuff so they may not be at every meeting. My thought. What is going through the mind of the leaders and paren
  11. John I have seen the NCS standards for Council run family camps. I have been using them as guidelines for the specifics of organizing my session. I would not mind seeing if we would pass inspection. That way we can find areas to improve on for the future. It is all about the best program for the boys. So that is what I am striving for. This program that we are taking care of has two sessions. two different weekends at tow different camps. Kinda trying to keep the options open for the parents and leaders. On a side note, I talked with a member of the SD DAY camp committe
  12. GREAT ARTICLE I often talk with people who grew up in the 80's and we compare it to todays standards. WE SHOULD BE DEAD. Staying out all day, no cell phone to track us down, shooting bb guns, fishing, waking through the woods without a care. Only to find out that it is either a walk back through the woods or a longer walkl around. The only reason why my kids do not walk to school is because it is like 8 miles to the school for my son and 12 miles for my daughter.and the roads are 65 mph. Country Roads. Not the best for walking on. My 12 y/o goes to the bus stop by herself.
  13. Thank you al for the help. I can say that I am afraid to see what my cell phone bill will be this month. I do have a BB Gun Instructor. Yeah. I will be tallking to another person here in a little bit about some help, she sent me an e-mai today. as for Lodge, we will be having an ordeal next weekend. I plan on getting some help then, or at least trying. I like the idea about a thank you dinner. Talked with the reservation director today, he said that he was pretty sure that he was good to go with cook staff. Eagle92: I am going to the radio club here in a litt
  14. Remember, there is nothing that says that the boys have to cross at the Blue and Gold. An outdoor ceremony is a good one to have when you can have everyone outside and the weather is not too cold Here are the joining requirements as I got them from USScouts 1.Meet age requirements: Be a boy who has completed the fifth grade and be at least 10 years old, or be 11 years old, or have earned the Arrow of Light Award and be at least 10 years old, and be under 18 years old. Your son will probaby be fine, just crossing a little late in the spring. As long as he has his AOL. Hope
  15. So how od wi he be at the end of his second year of Webelos. I would use that as a basis of when he can join the troop or cross over.
  16. Eagle92 You just gave me an idea to ask if there is anybody from Lejeune that may want to help. I was also thinking to see if there would be any chance to get a camp ranger from the state to come out. On the note about the OA. I sent out an e-mail 3 days ago. Right after the meeting, to all OA Chiefs and Advisors that I could asking for help, but no one responded.(This message has been edited by SctDad)
  17. For those that have helped organize Family Camps in the past, I have a question to ask. Where do you go to look for camp volunteers? We are organizing a Cub Scout Family Camp and are trying to fill in positions that are needed for camp staff. This is an all volunteer staff. I have sent out e-mails and got one response, (From a DE that is also a Tiger Parent) I have 3 positions that are filled already, and two of those are ones that require certifications for the program area. Do you look towards your boy scout troops for youth volunteers and how has this worked out in
  18. If it is listed under a Do ALL of these or something like that EX: For citizen, the words are as follows As a Webelos Scout, earn the Cub Scout Academics belt loop for Citizenship. (All boys may earn belt loops and pins more than onceCub Scout Academics and Sports Program Guide p. 4) So Webelos are required to earn some belt loops so they can earn the activity badge. If it is under an optional area then it is one of the options. But remember, it says "As a WEBELOS SCOUT"
  19. Hal May I pose a rebuttal I reviewed the references that you posted, and I noticed one thing. They are all dated in 2008 prior to the election as far as I coud find. The only mention I couldl find in the Watuga watch was about 3/4 of the way down in the Swing, Misses article. Posted on May 13th 2008. The stuff from Wikipedia is in reference to the election race in 2008 and the News and Observer link was originaly posted in 2007. She has recently (Summer 2009) started pushing for the bill that would allow for illegal immigrants to attend Comm Colleges free. I have seen this
  20. Hal I work in EMS and if ANYBODY calls 911 and wants to go to the ER, then we HAVE to take them. Wether or not they pay. We have taken people to the ER for tooth pain. Nothing that we can do because it is not severe enough, and there is no way for us to say that they are faking. In the ER anyone that comes in gets seen by a doctor. No matter what the complaint. Bev Perdue has been trying to make it where illegal immigrants can attend community colleges free of charge. Not ony taking seats from citizens, but also takes funding. How is that fair, when there are a lot of ha
  21. I wil agree with skeptic when he says that he is president. I have to respect the position. I do not have to respect the man. Obama made a lot of promises that as far as I can see have not come around yet. He promised a better economy, that is not happening. He promised more jobs, that is not happening. He made this grand idea of govt healthcare. Hey we have that, but it is taken up by those that do not need or deserve to be on it. Last time I checked it was called medicare/medicaid. How is it illegal aliens in this country have more rights to healthcare than had working, tax payi
  22. Well, the only thing that I have to complain about here in NC is the fact from the time that they step into the class on the first day of school, they do nothing but preach the EOG, (End of grade testing) and that is what they teach the kids to pass. That is all they focus on. Then they stress the kids out so bad by telling them, if you don't pass the EOG, you fail and have to stay back. THey stress them out SOOO bad that honors students are faiing. How can you base a whole year on one test. That is what I find is messed up with the education system.
  23. I have found the forms. If anyone is interested let me know. I will also need to know what version of MS Word you are running. I have found that not everyone is running 2007
  24. Sounds like you have a great campmaster lodge. Ours has wireless internet. I think it alslo has satellite TV. I guess some bonus perks help to recruit.
  25. It is funny that we are discussing this, because at out council committee for cub Scouts we were discussing this. What our council does sounds like good program. They have a campmaster house for those service to stay in during their service. They even said that the family can come up. Sounds like a good weekend trip. I think that it could be a good program if done correctly.
