  1. IMO, 1972, 1999 was a return to choice. In some cases, a scout could select a preferred "required" merit badge from a subject groups as I did back in the day. At my EBOR, I would have answered that Lifesaving was most important as I was a lifeguard and rescued a few people. Today, I might say Public Health. Would I have First Aid, Swimming, Personal Fitness, Cooking merit badges? Nope. First Aid should be a yearly re-certification with each year requiring more skills. Every FC scout should be strong swimmer, physically strong, and a passable patrol cook. What groups for Eagle required merit badges? Hmmm, one or two from each group- a few required but most scouts select. Emergencies: Emergency Preparedness, Search and Rescue, Fire Safety, Lifesaving Outdoor: Camping, Backpacking, Hiking, Wilderness Survival, Orienteering, Pioneering, Canoeing, Kayaking,... Health (well-being): Safety (add tool safety), Public Health, Medicine, Disabilities Awareness Personal Finance: Personal Finance Citizenship: focus on responsibilities and rights. Service, voting, petition, remedies. Interaction with government particularly police.. Environment: Fish&Wildlife Management, Forestry, Environment Science (ugh), Sustainability (ugher), Soil & Water, Nature Maker skills : Cooking ( as in make family dinner! ), Home Repair, Woodwork, Robotics. Dradting (CAD, Wood carving, Electricity, Plumbing... OR Science: Chemistry, Engineering, Architecture, Aviation my $0.01 for rambling
  2. IMHO it would also be a good time to rethink "Eagle required" merit badges - subject areas, number, difficulty...
  3. IMHO, Councils should be scrambling to deliver their summer camp 2021. Otherwise Councils will meet the above percentage quotas of new demographics by default that is, by losing existing demographics. Meeting new Churchill membership metrics by losing existing members, what a thought. Another diversion from National?
  4. I hope this survey is not another non-transparent, manipulated post justification of a National decision. My $0.02
  5. The media often discusses how America has divided in different ways, why can't scouts by whatever name be an exception and unify us. May 2021 gift us with wise judges and servant leaders. Another $0.02,
  6. Agree, consider this recent story, does it really matter if these girls who are scouts are GSUSA or Scouts,BSA Troop 222 "girl scouts". Boy and girl scouts pick up nearly 100 Christmas trees to recycle https://kobi5.com/news/local-news/boy-and-girl-scouts-pick-up-nearly-100-christmas-trees-to-recycle-143210/ My $0.02,
  7. Expressed another way, they don't trust us as adults, volunteers, or even as parents. My $0.02
  8. It does seem futile, perhaps we could write National Executive Board members about this matter as well as a performance review of our CEO (his one year anniversary is Jan 2). Maybe the former matter can be moved to a Churchill committee for further study? I'm not sure who all are the 70+ members of NEB, but I just read of a new member, Derek Porter.
  9. My understanding, where there was "confusion" or complaint, registration refunds were given. I don't know that number nor of that number how many applied the refund to join the desired youth group. My $0.02
  10. @twscout from the scouter.com moderators welcome. Please tell us more of your situation, I believe you are a member of the Far East Council.
  11. "Gosh Mr./Mrs. Wilson thanks. Twenty dollars is a lot! Can we scouts shovel your walk or take some bottles to the recycling center for you."
  12. Grammar and spell checkers are increasingly more configurable (language, vendor) either in browsers or keyboards via plugins or apps. Still even with spelling and grammar correct, I have been known to send the wrong message.
  13. In previous years, the Spirit of Adventure Council (Boston/Eastern Mass) offered an Adventure Card ($30) to scouts and their families as a fundraiser for Council and money-saver for scouts. However at registration this year, scouts are required to purchase a more expensive Adventure Card ($48) which IMHO has less value as stated discounts are for activities or venues closed by covid.
  14. Every scout/scouter is a swimmer but not necessarily a spellr. Some of you may have a browser (Firefox, Brave, Chrome,...) without spell check selected. Firefox: Select the “Menu” button (3 horizontal bars) located at the upper-right corner of the screen, then choose “Options“. Scroll to the “Language” section. Select “Check my spelling as I type” if you want to turn spell checker on. Uncheck it if you wish to have it off. Brave: Select the “Menu” button (3 horizontal bars) located at the upper-right corner of the screen, then choose “Settings“. Scroll to the “Additional settings" and expand. Scroll down to Languages and left click Slide Spell Check switch on left (ON). Chrome: source https://support.luminello.com/article/1090-how-does-spell-checker-work-in-each-browser 1. Launch the Chrome browser, click on the vertical ellipses to open the menu and choose Settings from there. Alternatively, you can also type chrome://settings in the address bar and press Enter. 2. On the settings screen type languages in the search box to locate the language settings. 3. Click on Language to expand the options and then click on Add languages. Add Language for Spell Check in Chrome. 4. In the list that opens up, choose the languages that you want to add in Chrome browser. You can use the search box to find your languages. Click on the Add button to add those languages. Add Language for Spell Check in Chrome 5. Type chrome://settings in the address bar and press Enter. This will open the Chrome settings screen once again removing the filters applied by the search box. 6. In the search box, type spell checks to find spell check related settings. 7. Click on Spell Check to expand the options and toggle the spell check support for the languages displayed in the list.Add Language for Spell Check in Chrome That’s it. Now your Chrome browser is going to perform a spell check as you type in any of those languages. Hope this helps.
  15. Copy Image By Location Say you are on a webpage https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America and you want to copy an image on that page to your scouter.com post, try this 1. Move mouse over image, in this case the three familiar fellows. 2. Right click mouse and a dropdown menu appears. 3. With mouse scroll down the dropdown menu, stop on Copy Image Location selection and left click mouse. This copies the URL address to your clipboard. 4. Now move mouse pointer to your scouter.com post that you are creating/editing. Press left mouse button where you want image, and on keyboard hold-down CTRL key and press V. The image URL address will briefly appear but will soon the image will be uploaded from its source. Like below. There are other ways to do this but this works for me. Note in using this method, the image is linked back to its source page so it will be current well unless source deletes image or page ...oops.
  16. @TAHAWK above when I opened your post (point click on text) for edit, the red squiggly lines appeared under misspelled words.

  18. I don't rightly know his real name but I've heard him called the Lone Scouter.
  19. Not your basic shower curtains... well done. Source link below. https://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2020/12/14/Boy-Scouts-create-COVID-19-hug-booth-for-Texas-nursing-home/5631607963987/
  20. Ah, now that would be a diverse, equitable, and inclusive MB program. My $0.02, well at least here
  21. Excellent. Twenty one of VSDB Scoutmaster Robert Aumon Bass' scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank. Bass was deaf due to contracting whooping cough as an infant . https://liblists.wrlc.org/biographies/55266
