  1. How is scout nite at the ball game is Not a scouting actvity?Sponsered by scout council, only scouts alowed to camp, they would pitch a tent or sleep under the stars. Im joking but why wouldnt it count of 1 of the 20 nites?

    5% ?

my own observations on the eagle. One is at west point. The rest that joined the military are not in leadership positions. I know less than 10 so my experienceis limited....I dont mean to offend anyone as well.

    5% ?

5%?I'll take it. Im a leader born or not cause no one else will. Woodbadge, Edge, roundtable? Ive never been to any of these. My schedule wont allow it and my wallet wont either. I find it intresting that the eagle scouts as of lately join the military. Not to be a officer but to do the same things as a high school dropout- did eagle prepare to lead in that way? Just my 2 cents
  4. 9 in the pack, 11 active out of 15 in the my boys troop. At the blue and gold the council commish said that she heard of a troop that had more than 70! She was aghast and said you wouldn't even know everyones name! Such is the price of small minds...
  5. Smt224- thanks for the advice- I found out that there is council event of camping on the field after a ball game. Sad but this would meet the criteria for camping merit badge- tent or under the stars at a scouting event-- I just may have present this to everyone, to show the troop what we have become...
  6. I've told my son that we can move on to more adventures troops but he has freinds here. I was told by the incoming SPL that there would be no more camping added as per the 'request'(orders) of the troop master for the rest of the year. Field trip outings I guess for now...
  7. I just compared last year overnite outings(cabin, basement or tent). We are down 40% in opportunities and 40% less scouts as well. We got 2 out of a den of 8 crossed over, the leader told me that the other 6 were intimidated by the 'amount of camping' we do...Wow. Thanks to all, always good stuf here!
  8. Thanks for all of the input. I see now the tent camping issue is just one of many problems. I am just amazed that boys accept the amount of non tent camping activities. I'll try to encourage more tent activities.
  9. No we got lots of tents and leaders that will only go tent camping. Two things - spent 4 meetings goin thru tents, setting up, repairs ect, 2nd when PLC was presented with a camporee was shut down as the only planned tent campout is the week before. Afterall who would want to go tent camping with a 100 other scouts and show off any skills that the troop may have? Just curious as to where we stand in the amounts of camping...
  10. How many tent campouts per year? Our troop is going soft, last year 4- this year 1. No camporees or high adventure either. They let the outgoing PLC plan the following years agenda. So instead they camp in cabins, musuems and basements...Is this the new norm?
  11. NLDScout I'm with you! Just heard of a scout whose parents gave up on him years ago, bad kid ect. Well scouts took him in and turned him around, now eagle scout and West Point in the Fall. Yea that West Point. For me Im not concerned about how I look in front of the parents and the kids. There is a offical Scout incident as well, didnt see any mention of that yet!
  12. I would have called the law for the weed and the punch. These were not the 1st time you had problems with these kids is it? If us leaders got caught with weed at camp by the National scout policia would we still be in scouts? Maybe but our butts would be busted, Did the kid stop smoking weed? Doubt it. The duct taping knife thrower lemonade pourer, well he is the kind of kid I had at the Wilderness prison for 'difficult adolescents'camp. No one ever said no to him and back it up with action. You do that 1 more time and ....

    is it okay

2nd what Tampa said- Council will keep it..."For good of all scouts". Cancelled check is the documentation.
  14. dollar bill is 1 gram, a nickel is 5 grams. Try that out...
  15. A_Go to the Jambo website directly and apply for staff on your own. You have a lot to offer the jambo not just you own troop. B_ Do not give up and ask for written verification from council why you were you were rejected. Get everyones name and push the matter with national, you are trained better than most of the local staff, more than council and probably more than the national staff! Forget the local good ole boys and at Hey you can say at least you 'did your best'...Good luck and let us know what happens.
  16. thanks for all of the tips. I just like to go by the book in case something happens I am somewhat covered. Thanks again-
  17. I am already the guy elected to do it all-Cubmaster...The ones that yell at the kids, disrupt the meeting and hold us all back are gone. Hope your ticket freind sticks it out as well!
  18. No den leaders=No den meetings, they quit after recharter. The parents we had wouldnt even put their garbage away after the blue and gold. You cant make this stuff up!
  19. Sorry meant to put in the Council relations stuff.
  20. We are in the NE USA, so yep we get we get snow. Our council does not have a polar bear program. I was told by council that they are too busy to put a program, requirements ect together. So is a scout council truly too busy to put together a program that consists of 3 requirements? Sleep out in the cold, cook in the cold and prepare for the cold? Any thoughts? 21. Back to the topic- fix sinking pack? I say yes! Easier to build a boy than fix a aman isn't? My pack is the same way, no leaders, no commitee and no help from council. So we have 2 pack meetings a month with advancements done at home. We had to wait for the non fun parents to cycle out.Now the pack will have brand new leaders next year and brand new boys. I for one only do scouts for my boys, yea Im a selfish parent. If others want to come along for all of the fun then come on
  22. Local council charges $40,000 to take a busload to the jamboree. National does it with the magazine.
  23. We live in the country on a dirt road with 25 acres of posted land. Just about every one of the signs has been shot up. We also live in a non sunday hunting state. It is the only day we can work and play outside without concern of getting shot at legally.
  24. At the Jamboree in 73? Moraine state park the big nites entertainment was Danny Thomas! Last jamboree was the Ford salesman Mike Rowe(as I was told). Paradox of progress. Christmas oldies are the best...
