  1. I wish "Peace on earth and goodwill towards all men" as well. For my own peace&goodwill I am resigning from the committee and withdrawing any and all support for the troop. The PLC & Troop Master now tell us that the party is open to all freinds, family and countrymen. Except for those that didn't do the service... Last straw for me. My wife is in tears and my son doesnt understand why he cant go but a stranger can... For some its not a big deal but Im a father 1st and Ive already addressed this with the Plc, committee and troop master. A open invitation to everyone else but us is what
  2. Yes it was presented as ring or else.( I give evrytime I can to them) Yes the troop is paying for the party. Yes you are only getting 1 side of it(the right side!). In our house school comes 1st! Always has and always will. I've kept my mouth shut for now(to the troop anyway). Ya know there will be parents , leaders and committee folks there that did not do the community service as required. Is it fair they get to go and others are specificaly excluded?
  3. As the orginal poster thanks and all of the replies are helpful. A former eagle scout just contacted me about his son joining our group. He is coming to the next meeting. I did not tell him that the xmas party was ..., could be intresting. We are a non-salvation army troop of less than 15.
  4. mmm- wood badge? Dont know anything about it except it is expensive and ya get a neckerchief, kinda of like the Masons!
  5. Whatta ya do- Ask dear Abby! We had a deal where the leaders were co-habitating. Well some well meaning parents took it upon themselves to end this leadership example. So here we sit with no troop left in our town and the thousands of dollars of equipment went to someone in council. My advice- step up and be in charge in the 'background' if need be. the boys dont need that drama as a role model. Personal or not, it is only business and the business is the groups well being!!!
  6. Thanks again to all, I read in our council stuff that scouts were not allowed to solict money in uniform, so very good point ssscout. It is what it is. A reward for 1 service event and not a years worth of scouting service to the patrol, troop and community. I know we all do things without expectations but these scouts are still children. We are adults here on this board not children. Children dont always understand do they?
  7. I was at a camp this past summer that had the jet ski's or whatcha ma call it's. there was maybe 5? scouts participating. It was a additional $300 to play in the water. Looked like fun though. Our scout that did it loved it and that was his entire program at camp. If I could haved afforded it I would have done it too
  8. Thanks for all of the advice. The party is a reward for those that help with one thing. I will suggest to the PLC and /or committee that it the name be changed to reflect that. Maybe invite everyone but those that were coerced(rang the bells) get free pizza or something. Who do I approach( committee or PLC)? The commitee paid for the party space and yes this our 1st year and my partner is ready to quit cause of this mess! Shortridge- the troop is just coercing the boys to volunteer, They dont even know the Salvation army is a relogous organzation. I just do not like the strongarm for 'voluntee
  9. Yep- the 'xmas party' is only for those able to go man the red kettles during a limited window of time. School obligations prevent this for us. My boy has more service hours than 1/2 the troop combined. I dont like the idea of being bullied to get into the bell ringers party but was met with(SM & SPL) that is the way it always has been...
  10. Deadlines- I find out after council told our district that it has to be in xxx that anothor district(my scouts troop) same council, the deadline is a full 2 weeks later. Go figure- I love that oganizized council!
  11. Both Krakatoa and Scoutfish are fine scouts, I have no doubt. I googled scouting and autism and found a bunch of stuff. Scouts is just like here. There is room for all and all are welcome...
  12. On the internet oh wise scoutfish we are all allowed our opinion(for now anyway). All of us. Thanks for your post as well!
  13. Krakatoa, I for one stand by what I say, rules/expectations ect. apply to everyone- including your son as well. For now our society is based on laws(or rules) and respect of those as well. Your attitude of "lack of symapathy" irks me to no end. Symapthy? Is that what you want? Sure we all feel so sorry, bla,bla ect. Is that sincere enough? However, if you want to teach your scouts to do your best in everything they do then good for you. But if you want to teach intolerance of others and society then good for you as well. Your son will do fine as you have stepped up in scouts but to beg for 's
  14. Set rules/expectations for everyone including him. Also what are the consequences for not following. I had the same thing in my group and his parents thought it was cute till I enforced the rule. They left the group as I(&the group) did not find it cute or fair to those that did follow the expectations. Tell the parents "your diagnosis", well I have many years in human services and 'suggested' to my own brother that he should have his daughter tested for a developmental screening and he hasnt talked to me in 10 years. Afterall isn't it normal not to talk or show expressions till your 5?
  15. Last year we sold 3500 yep 3500 and we were 1st in our district. If they start the but the case, pallet whatever you call it. Well I do not see us going that route. Why should the we, the sellers, pay the price of councils lack of planning? Just love that - all for me and none for thee- council attitude!
  16. I told them I was not going to 'bend for them', and that they can deal directly with council. They are big yellers and that is one of the reasons kids wont join us, they are intimidated. I told em, if you want to complain to council about me make sure you spell my name right!
  17. What do you do with those that wait 4 days after the 'last turn in' for popcorn sales? They want the Cubmaster(me) and Kernel to alter their families lives for their own convience and lack of their own proper planning. The last excuse I heard was I didnt want to carry the money with me! Well they didnt carry the paperwork either! So now I've lost another Kernel who doesnt like problems....
  18. So I've heard, our council sent the office personel. The office girls that is the one year. Good use for the popcorn profits Eh?
  19. Not spending over $300 for a neckerchief, Sorry. Thanks for the tip all the same.
  20. 1 is better than none. Next year is a differnet story. My son was also a lone tiger, wolf and bear. Only webeloes added 1 more. Now he is a troop of 15 and is first class in 8 months. He did Cubs alone and it suited him. Maybe not for everyone but for him it worked. Also gave him & I many opportunties to share together...
  21. After rain brought the creek to near flood levels a local church youth group went forward with their canoe trip."we planned for over a year, we cant cancel". Well a 14 yr old girl drowned. Found out later that the fire dept knew about the low tree and there was talk about cutting it down before somebody ...
  22. Committee 5 as required by charter, have Never Met. Program Staff-the other 10 plus positions as described above Me, me and me. Oh and 1 controlling Webeloes leader who son is not allowed to blow his nose without asking! I do it for my children, no other reason. Good luck, noname.
  23. Neckerless? too true shorty. What kind of example are we setting? Do as I say not as I do?
