  3. Laurie, In the pack I used to Chair and ACM, we planned a healthy plate, but did not overload it. June: District Day Camp. Traditionally, our professional (our most junior DE), Director, and PD, do a good job of making sure each event supports a W-B-W1-W2 advancement activity. July: Independence Day Parade. Kids love to march in parades!!! Late July: Cookout, Raingutter Regatta, and pool night. Mid August: Cookout and pool night. In between these, our Council offers Bear Overnight Resident Camp at one of our Reservations (depending on the unit, buth "new" an
  4. Ok, so who's the "Lone Star" Scouter in here....??? John (ducking and running)
  5. Well, you did it... you caused me to find my Boy Scout Handbook again (Seventh Edition (1965), 2d printing). Merit Badge Requirements: Camping ... still a requirement Cooking Citizenship in the Community ... still a requirement Citizenship in the Nation ... still a requirement Nature Conservation of Natural Resources (which replaced Soil and Water Conservation) Personal Fitness ... still a requirement First Aid ... still a requirement Swimming ... still a requirement Lifesaving ... still a requirement Safety 11 required, 10 Scouts' choice. Note some of the

  7. Go to school supply store. Get teacher's record book. Make Scribe keep attendance.
  8. There are things we as adults rightly should do. If a Scout chooses an Eagle Leadership Service project that requires power tools, we get to provide them, and to man them. If a Scout chooses to do the Veteran's Oral History Program of the Library of Congress for his chartering VFW or Legion Post, I submit a Scout should ask the questions; but I also submit a Scouter who was a (Soldier, Sailor, Marine, or Airman as appropriate) will do better in drawing out the war stories. I see too many Scouts taking their Eagle MBs using the path of least resistance ... the in-troop counselor. My
  9. Another truncated post. Grrrrr(This message has been edited by John-in-KC)
  10. Thanks. NWS, you going to NLAS convention?
  11. Two Scouts I know have completed their age-appropriate religious award. The question is: As an advancement coordinator, to obtain the purple square knot from the Service Center, do I submit the fact of their rewards on an advancement report??? TIA YIS John
  12. I was down at camp last night for ceremony. We had 133 FIFTH YEAR CAMPERS who were the subjects of that particular ceremony. That did not count another bunch of campers who were in their 6th year (or beyond) not to mention the staff. Then again, the Heart of America Council camps 10,000 Boy Scouts and leaders each and every summer on the Theodore Naish Scout Reservation and the H Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. Give the youth a great program ... they will come and come back. That applies to council camps as much as it does to units. Friendship and Warmth, John

  15. OH ... I've had a tilt or two with Herr White.
  16. BW is out of luck at Star and Life... From Requirements, p14: (or carry out a Scoutmaster assigned leadership project to help the troop)... Remembering also that a boy can be in a Crew as he continues to advance after 1st Class, there is additional flexibility in the officer positions there as well. FWIW, Webmaster has elements of historian and scribe in it. I've held down a site outside of Scouting. It can be a time investment, as you said, Mr OneHour. John

  18. I'm at home now, and my chances of getting a complete post through are greater. This patch was well designed and executed ... but since I could not see the back, I could not tell if it was from Supply Division. Had the Scouting FDL, a silver web througout the patch, and WEBMASTER in green in the proper curvature. John
  19. Group, Last week I saw a young man with a "Webmaster" POR patch. Anyone have a clue? TIA(This message has been edited by John-in-KC)
  20. As an advancement chair, I think my job includes making sure the SM and Advisor have current records and BOR reports before they kick out to camp. That way, they're prepared. Of course, I'm going to camp as well, so I'll have copies too I'm also of the belief that the field is one of the best places for a BOR. There are too many really neat and special spots at camp for a boy NOT to have at least one BOR there. John(This message has been edited by John-in-KC)
  21. Only one question: HOW IN THE WORLD IS YOUR COUNCIL SERVICE CENTER ISSUING A TOUR PERMIT??? 1) Has the unit done what is needed in G2SS for a whitewater trip? 2) The families going along concerns me. John

  25. IIRC my Cub leader specific training, when there is a Cubmaster vacancy, the Committee Chair assumes the duties of the Program officer (Cubmaster) until you get a new one. If that is still current, then roll up your sleeves and have fun!
