"If God had intended people to go outside when the temperature is below 70*, He would never have given us thermometers and weatherpersons. Just a personal view." Agreed!

Camoflage clothing with cub uniforms. What do you think?
hops_scout replied to amethyst's topic in Uniforms
"The Boy Scout uniform does not go out of style" That's interesting.. sure seems to around here and most any other place in the country. Sure it's worn; that doesn't mean it's "in style" -
So how bout this one.. I know a leader how has an all-black Camelbak. Guess what-- I'm pretty sure that specific color style is "military" or "law enforcement" but it's plain black. If somebody is going to try telling him he can't use THAT (in truth it's "military-spec") then that person better have equipment to GIVE to leaders and scouts...

hops_scout replied to amethyst's topic in Uniforms
"The uniform is expensive? Generally when I hear this I look at the Scout. He is typically wearing shoes and hooded sweat shirt cost more than the items the parent is complaining about." Yeah and how often does the kid wear the shoes and hoodie? How about the Scout uniform? And on another note, football and baseball, etc REQUIRE a uniform. The Boy Scouts of America does not. Pretty simple...(This message has been edited by hops_scout) -
[sarcasm] George W. Bush is the worst President the United States has ever had! He wasted our money, got our men and women killed for no reason, and single-handily doomed the country forever! [/sarcasm] Where was Congress in all of this again? Yeah, the Democrats.. oh wait they were all too busy hating him, cussing him, protesting against everything, and running for President in 2008 except the campaigning began in 2004!

I didn't pay much attention to what was being said before the election from either side. Why? Because it really doesn't matter what is said beforehand. It's what is done after the fact that matters. I want to provide this joke that kind of describes what I mean: A powerful senator dies after a prolonged illness. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance. "Welcome to Heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you." "No problem, just let me in," says the guy. "Well, I'd like to but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in Hell and one in Heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity." "Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in Heaven," says the senator. "I'm sorry but we have our rules." And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a club and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him, everyone is very happy and in evening attire. They run to greet him, hug him, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster and caviar. Also present is the Devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that, before he realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a big hug and waves while the elevator rises. The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on Heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him. "Now it's time to visit Heaven." So 24 hours pass with the head of state joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns. "Well then, you've spent a day in Hell and another in Heaven. Now choose your 'eternity." He reflects for a minute, then the senator answers, "Well, I thought that I would never have said it, I mean Heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in Hell." So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to Hell. Now the doors of the elevator open and he is in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags. The Devil comes over to him and lays his arm on his neck. "I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and club and we ate lobster and caviar and danced and had a great time. Now all there is, is a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable." The Devil looks at him, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning...Today you voted for us!" --- I will say that Obama is not my ideal candidate, but I listened to his speech last night and I will be interested to see what happens. I believe it's the first 100 days a President is in office that gives us a glimpse into whether America made the right choice or not. I intend to wait until then to decide..

Ten reasons I’m voting for Obama and against McCain
hops_scout replied to SCOUTER-Terry's topic in Issues & Politics
Terry, I just want to address one point you made.. 6. President Palin, and the simple unseriousness of Republicans Last I check, it was John McCain's name on the ballot for President; not Sarah Palin. People have talked about how little experience she has and all that. Well, I look at it this way: IF Obama is elected today, then he WILL become President of the United States of America on January 20(or 21), 2009. IF McCain is elected today, Sarah Palin MIGHT become the President of the United States at some point.. Both of them are scary, but I feel we may be better off with a "might" than a "will" when it comes to inexperienced politicians. Both Obama and Palin are inexperienced. -
Little Eyes Upon You By: Author Unknown There are little eyes upon you and they're watching night and day. There are little ears that quickly take in every word you say. There are little hands all eager to do anything you do; And a little boy who's dreaming of the day he'll be like you. You're the little fellow's idol, you're the wisest of the wise. In his little mind about you no suspicions ever rise. He believes in you devoutly, holds all you say and do; He will say and do, in your way when he's grown up just like you. There's a wide-eyed little fellow who believes you're always right; and his eyes are always opened, and he watches day and night. You are setting an example every day in all you do; For the little boy who's waiting to grow up to be like you.

Acco, it was meritbadge.org that was the porn site. Now all three-- meritbadge.net, meritbadge.com, and meritbadge.org are owned by the same person. Meritbadge.or in fact is now set up as a wiki.

Why is the State paying City police officers? Shouldn't the City of Chicago be coming up with that money? Oh wait, Gov cantrepeathisname is the best "Governor of Chicago" this state has ever had. Edit: Typo needed correction to make sense..(This message has been edited by hops_scout) -
Ok Lisa another question for you. You mention Biden having been in the US Senate for 35 years.. how does that go together with Obama's campaign about "change?"
-
Her "lack of experience" keeps getting brought up. Sure, I think she could defnitely use some more experience, but why is her experience not enough but Obama's experience is okay because he's "like Lincoln?" Either you're inexperienced or you're not. There can't be two different definitions that one person uses.
-
"she's so darned inexperienced. Her only political experience prior to becoming Alaska governor in 2006 comes from being a member of a city council and mayor of a town of about 8000 people." Would you rather have an inexperienced VP or an inexperienced President? That's what it looks like we're gonna get! Mr. Obama has done next to NOTHING for the State of Illinois during his time as a US Senator. He's pretty well been campaigning for the President spot since becoming a Senator.

Gas is right around $3.86 here at home in Southwestern Illinois. No more than about 10 days ago, it was $4.17! We went down to Cape Girardeau today and it was $3.69 in Cape. In Perryville, MO on the way home, my dad filled up at $3.46 per gallon! What's going on? Please.. keep going down!!

Excercise tips....oh goody!

As others have stated, if the doctor said to get a knee brace, then GET A KNEE BRACE! Do you have a membership to a fitness center? If so, try riding the bike or getting on an elliptical. The elliptical is much like walking, except it takes pressure off the knees and ankles. Leg press, leg curls, leg extensions, lat pulldowns, cardio, amdominal curls, back extensions... do some "heavy" sets with fewer reps to build muscle strength; do some "light" sets with many reps to build muscle endurance. Get out and HIKE with a pack.. truly is the best way. GW, while your statement does hold water, there is so much more needed to be a good football player. They have to be strong, quick, agile, all things that can be improved in the weight room. Problem is: if all they do is lift weights, then they won't become a better football player. -
Our CO is the local VFW. We meet there, store our trailers there, and have a shed full of gear there. They also give us part of a storage closet inside and we do some physical activity out in the open field next to the building. They'll have members wander through to work in the kitchen, etc sometimes during meetings. For the most part, they let us do our thing and they do theirs. We provide a color guard for Memorial Day, Veterans' Day and parades. We are always included when we show up at their ceremonies. I think, from a financial standpoint, we are pretty well a stand-alone unit. I don't know how much (if any) they pay for throughout the year. We have some pictures from different ceremonies where there are scouts included in the pictures and the charter certificates from years past sit in the trophy case where we meet. The troop has been around for nearly 80 years straight.. with a one year lapse or it'd be closer to 95 I think.

Let's keep this chatter here and leave the other thread ontopic.. The first thing we need to do in order to decrease military spending is other countries have to step up. The United States pays more of the UN's budget than anybody else, we pretty well are NATO, and we do much of the International Red Cross yet other countries still expect us to do more. A natural disaster over in Asia somewhere a couple years ago I remember the US sending several hundred million dollars in aid. The thanks? "The United States isn't sending enough." It was over 80% of the relief aid that was coming in!!

GW, likely the difference is that military-issue is ACTUALLY what the military uses while the milspec is a copy "to military specifications." That doesn't mean it works the same; it probably just looks the same.
