All the above. I'm in a small community and just about everything is newsworthy.

For a while we had a marketing type Mom who created press releases for our Troop and we got in the news about once a month. Then she moved on and we really don't want to get any bigger. Some parents do it for their Eagle COH.

What Eagle92 said. Except my experience was mostly with cub scouts and uniform to school wasn't one of the things we did.

As a former journalist, I would have gladly welcomed units sending stuff in! Anything and everything. There's no guarantee it would all get in all the time, but if you don't send it in, you're guaranteed not to get any publicity.

 

Most community papers have been cut so far to the bone that if you write it in something approximating English, it'll run verbatim.

Is it possible that some Scout units never go to the trouble of seeking public notice , then bemoan the lack of membership?
