  1. "I have no problem if the BSA defends their copyright/trademark! My point is going after every youth group that wants to use the word scouts in it's name seems vindictive & a waste of money!" The problem is, if that organisation later folds under a heap of finacial irregularities or child abuse allegations you can guarantee that some people will assume it is the BSA because of the use of the name Scout.
  2. "Partly because I respect what the emblem used to mean in BSA and parly because I'm not part of the New World Order." No one is asking you to become part of a New World Order, but you did choose to become a member of the worldwide family of Scouts, and the World Badge is its emblem.
  3. "For those a bit mystified here: Chug is a member of The Scout Association in the UK. They call it the World Membership Badge and use it as a joining award for each section (membership level) of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Scout Network." I wasn't joking either, I know that many leaders here in the UK tell the YP they enrol that every Scout in the world who is a member of WOSM wears the World Badge.
  4. "I have never and will never wear a World Crest on my shirt. Don't really care about little Beavers and their bright eyes." Why do you refuse to wear the World Badge Gold Winger?
  5. When Mrs Chug enrols a Beaver Scout (6-8yrs) into her colony, she hands the bright eyed little youngster their World Badge and tells the eager child that every Scout in the world wears this badge on their unform. Now I know none of you wants to make Mr Chug a liar, and shatter those little Beaver's dreams. Do you?(This message has been edited by Chug)
  6. "Great big globs of........... Greasy grimy gopher guts Mutilated monkey meat Little birdys dirty feet Now that is extra creepy!" Actually that sounds like lunch.
  7. "Way back in the mid 60's when I was a scout, one of the older kids drove a BSA motorcycle, I thought it was so cool the BSA made motorcycles. I couldnt wait for them to start making cars. I am still waiting, BTW" Your wait is at an end. BSA also made cars, including this one; http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page.php/carno/44749 It's called the Scout Tourer.
  8. How does the BSA deal with the Baden-Powel Scouts? http://www.na.wfis.org.mx/
  9. It sounds like he wants to become a leader but is unsure of the correct procedure, if the father of a former Scout is showing this much interest why hasn't someone approached him to become a warranted leader. Or is the BSA so replete with leaders that it can afford to pass up an oportunity like this. Of course, if the former father spends his time luking around the Scout hut furtively fumbling in his trouser pockets, a restraining order is probably a good idea.(This message has been edited by Chug)
  10. And a hello to you from Ramillies Explorer Sea Scout Unit.(This message has been edited by Chug)
  11. I take it from this thread that BSA groups aren't sponsored by a local church/Synagogue/Mosque like they usually are here?
  12. Hi Jake, and a big welcome from the UK.
  13. I can't dry tents in our cellar, mainly because we haven't got one. Besides our unit hall is ideal for that, it's got plenty of room and Mrs Chug can't complain.
  14. "NEVER do a job a boy can do!!! That one saying can keep you out of a multitude of days in the dog house. " My son Kieran is no good at cleaning pegs. They just don't train Cubs like they used to.
  15. I've got to say they came out sparkling, and with a pleasant lemony fragrance. The inside of the dishwasher was clean, but my name is still mud.
  16. Apparantly, using the dishwasher to clean muddy tentpegs is a big no-no.
  17. Ok, you've read the news story, now here's the facts. This is The Scout Associations factsheet http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/...s/fs950000.pdf A proper read through will show you the real story. Essentialy the advice we give to a young person contemplating having sex is not to, but that it wouldn't be a bad idea to know where to send that person to get proper infomation about contraception and STD's. They're certainly not suggesting that we become some kind of Dr Ruth. This topic is also being discussed at www.escouts.org.uk(This message has been edited by Chug)
  18. Ramillies Explorer Sea Scout Unit. www.ramillies-essu.org.uk
  19. Bob White said:"Help me out here Chug. I have had evmori on ignore for several weeks, Check his posts and tell me if you think it changed the tone of any of his posts? I will bet it hasn't. Did it change my posts? Before I posted about the content of BSA program training and resources and they address specific comments or questions, I still do. No changes, Do you honestly believe that if BadenP could not see my posts that he would stop posting about me? If I could not see his posts would the content of the BSA training and resources somehow change?" I know one thing, it takes two people to have an argument, if you both have each other on ignore you'll soon run out of things to argue about.
  20. Eamonn, never thought I'd see this on a Scouting forum. I suggest telling both members to put each other on ignore, with a long timeout or ban on whomever doesn't comply.
  21. No bugle, but as a Sea Explorer Unit we expect all our YPs to be able to use a Bosun's Call.
  22. The SA doesn't do an official sub zero award, but our unit is drawing up designs for an unofficial one, polar bears and penguins have featured in most designs, even an igloo. I suggest a brass monkey on the badge, but I was told it wouldn't be appropriate.
  23. Cool! How do you find the time though?
  24. "GSUSA is a member of WAGGGS not WOSM" Sorry, how could I forget WAGGS. Probably because here in the UK we know them as Girl Guides.
