Somehow I don't think Calico will win a Nobel Peace Prize.

Some of us who voted for him are also questioning this award. I see it kinda like giving him the Eagle Rank. He certainly has the potential but he hasn't earned it yet. I would not be proud if my son was given his Eagle, but he EARNED it, and for that I'm very proud of him. I still haven't seen much in what he's accomplished, except that he's not George Bush and looks good in a suit. ( ok, a little overboard but you catch my drift ) IMHO

Just give them the energy drink about 10 minutes before you send them home. Problem should resolve itself in a short time. ;-)

Wow. Somebody has it in for this kid. I have a scout who had his pocketknife in his backpack at a school. Not sure why it was in there but it was discovered and now he gets 5 days at home. Even the teacher argued against it but its a zero tolerance policy. Of course in San Francisco, if the teen is an immigrant and is involved in drug dealing and other crimes, he is somehow not responsible for his actions and is given sanctuary by the City.

Had some discussions on another thread so thought I'd start a new topic. I'd like this to be an INFORMATIVE thread, not a criticism if we can help it. I had a rule when I first came in as SM - No Sticks. While an ASM we had a couple of scouts that started a fracas every time they picked up sticks, ie.. sword fights, poking others, sharpening ends so that it caused ( IMHO ) a safety situation, etc. So I banned all sticks. How did I enforce it? The Look. Did I suspend/punish anyone? No. I was fortunate in that the scouts respected my requests. But in the last few years, I'v

I believe today to be the end of the world. Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize most likely because he is well dressed and a nice guy. And Ed and Merlyn are in agreement on something. I can die happy now.

Yea, maybe SOMEDAY, but not TODAY! I'm with Scoutldr. What'd he do? Whose up for next year, Brett Favre? My neighbor? Jon and Kate? The prize should be awarded for extraordinary work. Not potential. IMHO

I have 9 Life scouts and an Eagle in a troop of 16. Only one of them made first class in his first year. ( He is 14, the other 9 are 16-17 ). We provide the opportunities but we leave it up to the scout to get 'er done. Most of the guys get to first class in a year and a half or so...

1) Last week. He assures me all is ok and that he will get back into the spirit of things. I spoke to his Mother in a casual conversation and she has noticed the same lack of spirit and it concerns her... so I am optimistic that family will step in and address the issue. 2) The same program my other 15 scouts are enjoying. I had two guys give me some trouble last year, they were dragging down their patrol, so I approached with a positive attitude, a 'pep' talk if you will, and compared them to 2 Life scouts I had a couple a years back who were doing the same thing. They remembered how those 2 were 'boat anchors' and when they left the troop was better for it... so I asked them how they would like to be remembered, as 'boat anchors' or leaders. They perked up but now one of them is sliding back... but with him I have..... LEVERAGE. He is a Life scout so I flat out told him if he doesn't improve he won't get by

Into The Wild, Jon Krakauer, if you can get past the parts where he glorifies himself and whines about his family you can get a picture of how McCandless made mistakes and poor decisions i.e. how he was UNprepared. I always liked the Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway, especially how the young boy interacts with the old man.

I also would not hold up advancement for a scout not wearing a ski helmet, but that's just my personal opinion.... or did I post to the wrong thread again??? ;-)
