  1. Circle 10 is in Dallas about 20 - 25 minutes from the National Office in Irving.
  2. I think it was posted as a courtesy from the Council early in the morning so people would have an idea of what is going on. There is already a new thread on the Council page discussing the increases.
  3. This just in from my Coucil. (Circle 10) https://circleten.ihubapp.org/posts/34541/the-national-executive-board-of-the-bsa-just-approved-a-new-membership-fee?fbclid=IwAR3XPx25zXr6Caf_KUgxzGXLJ4MKX1tpT023gvKAPuf51Jx9DF3BUTiWTjg Beginning with the 2020 recharter (due December 31, 2019) the following fees will be collected by the National Council (no portion will remain within the Circle Ten Council): Cub Scout, Scouts BSA, Venturing youth - $60 Exploring youth - $36 Stem youth - $250 Adults - $36 Unit Charter Fee - $60
  4. Is it true if I go to WB people will stop telling me to go/asking if I have been?
  5. We only had an overnight camp, but I was happy to hit the salad bar last night at dinner.
  6. After being a leader what have you found out about yourself? District / Council campouts that are packed 8 am to 10 pm with program have shown me I do A LOT of "boredom eating" and sitting. Yesterday over the course of an entire day I walked ten miles only eating at the designated times. I don't need to nap, I don't need to scrounge for candy all day. Big revelation for me really.
  7. I lived and made it home. But there were kids this weekend that looked at me like I was crazy and it was their first time EVER. When I used the word "No".
  8. ... as Cubmaster. Its a Council camp specifically for new Scouts and their families, but everyone in the Pack is invited. Meals will be in the dining hall, and there is program all day long ending with a big campfire. I don't have to plan meals, cook, or provide much. After the big fire we are going to have a small fire at our campsite just for the new Scouts to not feel like they are missing out. I plan on having the Pack sing Vespers before going to bed, aside from that I don't have much "planned". If I dont make it back alive, please don't forget me. 🤣
  9. I will accept 17% all day long, but I think it will be more than that. My DE says an increase up to $48 and I don't like it but will probably go along with it. The suggestions it might be $100 or more will cause me to bail. This is my third year as a leader and I am CM this year planning on WB in Jan, so I am just a parent. There are 4 of us in my family and $400 a year to National is not going to be possible. I know the original letter from National said that to cover the increase we could just sell more popcorn and that line of thinking makes me say unkind things.
  10. We have talked about that a bit locally.
  11. Maybe BSA is like Butterfinger. The name is there, the product appears to be there, but when you take a bite its just not there anymore. And all the loyal Butterfinger fans are abandoning the product. (Nestle sold off Butterfinger and the new ones are NASTY)
  12. I am not involved in any other activities at school, nor is my wife. The bargain argument of other activities is not relevant to leaders who are looking at a significant increase. From my perspective its not a matter of what it costs my Scout. It will impact our entire family since we are all registered. Right now at $33 we are looking at $132 for all 4 of us, IF they go to $100 a year then we are talking $400 just for National fees before anything else is factored in.
  13. If the fee reaches a point where I feel its not something my family can afford I will just teach my kids the skills at home. We live in the country and can shoot BBs guns and archery in the yard There is a state park within 30 minutes where we can fish without a license. There are numerous places we can hike and camp. Opportunities abound in our town for community service. For that matter, what's keeping me from telling some folks I know we might be going on a nature hike on so and so day, maybe we will see them there. Wink wink nudge nudge. There is a lot that can be done just maybe ca
  14. Our DE is guessing $48 so its an even $4 a month. $49 would be $4.08 a month and that would be stupid to have to deal with change for when people pay cash at Join Scout Night
  15. I can not speak for everyone, but $100 recharter fee is a deal breaker for me, I have a Bear, I have a daughter who I am working on creating a Scouts BSA Troop in town, I am a leader as is my wife. We are not paying $400 a year just to send to National.
  16. Got this from my Council (Council Ten) today as an update.... UPDATED Information about Criminal Background Checks We have received some UPDATED information from the National Council regarding the recently announced Criminal Background Checks and the disclosure forms that must be turned in by ALL registered leaders. Some of this information has changed from what was shared on Monday, so be sure to read all of it. Please share as needed with other leaders you know. Criminal Background Check FAQ UPDATED 10-8-19 Please note this information c
  17. We live in a town of less than 10,000 people. The Pack is 70 years old. I am not going to leave and let people like that destroy it. As I said above, I l have two parents in that Den with apps and YPT that just need a signature and turned into for processing.
  18. I have two parents in that den who have applications and YPT completed. I just have get them signed and turned in. He is replaceable and I think I have the leverage to do that.
  19. this is what we made in our den last year
  20. My leader who has no respect for the uniform and vapes around Scouts did a new one today. This year he gets to be Den Leader of the new Lion Dem instead of Asst Den Leader with me. First Lion meeting he canceled a couple of hours before meeting time because he had things to do around the house. He came last weekend to our Bobcat event. Today he was a no show but apparently arranged for a new Lion Parent who has done YPT, but no other training to run the den meeting. Things worked out because I put the Lions with the Tiger DL and den for today. But this guy is just unbelievable.
  21. Our letter from Council was rolled out today stating what other letters have. We had one huge difference though. A week ago we received notification of a $5 Council increase to cover insurance and liability. The communication today said the Council executives voted and will NOT implement the new Council charge as a result of what National is proposing.
  22. I am not sure what I am getting yet, but I contacted someone in the Troop who is also a Firefighter/EMT and he has something started for me that we can hang in the trailer we are also working on.
  23. I need a First Aid Kit for the Pack. I am not talking about the little things that you buy to put in a pack for a hike or the activity we do for Cubs to built a first aid kit to carry as part of their Six Essentials. Our ASM from last year has for all intents and purposes moved on to another Pack closer to where they live. He brought much of the Pack camping equipment from his personal stash. Our CM from last year that moved up to CC this year and I am not even sure if he is going to show again in my mind is just about gone as well. So I need a real First Aid Kit. Do I put somethin
  24. I didn't mention it in the original post, but I have also personally witnessed this leader vaping in camp around Scouts.
