  1. We are in small town of about 7000. To go to another Troop is to leave town about 30 minutes in any direction with Scouts my kid doesnt even go to school with, I am the one, about single handily that formed the Girl Troop here, so even I bug out of the Boy Troop I will still be around. I am CC for both and the one that has made the effort to make all the community contacts. Mayor, City Council, etc... they all know who I am. I DO NOT like conflict, so I probably havent done what I should do to try to correct the problem. I am not really sure as CC how much I can get into what the SM does
  2. You know honestly I don't know. There was apparently a PLC lately, but I am unable to find out what was accomplished. In addition to being CC, I am also Secretary so I was asking for dates to fill in the calendar for the rest of the year. I know there have been adults deciding what MB they are going to teach next and I think that how its going. I seriously doubt Scouts sat down and picked Citizenship in Nation to start working on without it just being decided for them.
  3. Background... Since last December the Troop has gotten in the habit of conducting only MB requirements during meetings. And I mean sitting the Troop room for some time hour and a half with what amounts to lectures. Tonight at the end of the Troop meeting I heard the SM talk about how they started work on Citizenship in Nation and then went on to say "If you work hard and finish up in the next two meetings we can have a fun play meeting on the third meeting OR we can just keep having boring classroom meeting" I am not sure if thats exact, but that is about as accurate as I can remember.
  4. I was bullied in Scouts as well. At least 2 boys in the Troop who were also in Sunday School at the FUMC were particularly ugly to me at Scouts and church. I miised ONE Troop meeting once and I was told the next day I shouldnt come back since I missed that meeting. Thus my end of Scouts as a youth.
  5. I am on the other side of this than most here. I have lived with depression since 1994 and sometimes debilitating anxiety off and on for most of my 49 years. Woodbadge, that I wigged out on gives me major grief still after 2 years or so since I left after the first day. There are days, alot of them, I want to quit my Scouting position stay home and not be seen in town or on social media again. Ever. Sometimes I have the will to fight and try to make the Unit better in spite of the idgits I have to deal with. I have discovered that for the most part no one cares if I struggle with depress
  6. Young kids whatever you want to call em. Under the new policy beginning in September with only registered adults being permitted on campouts (which I have zero problem with). Is there anything official that I can point to regarding siblings attending a campout that are not registered with the Troop? Does it matter if they are registered with a Pack?
  7. We are able to recruit at the elementary school. SNFS is held at one of the elementary schools in town. We don't do anything else because they want $200 last time I heard to pay the custodian that has to be there.
  8. Its not that easy. Our "youth leadership" doesnt even know what their position is, nor how to do their job. Because we get pushback and/or indifference from the SM/ASM. Cuz... as long as they are having "fun". I TRY to give the SPL a task to go find Scouts to do and I get a blank stare and he walks away.
  9. I have on numerous occasions talked about a duty roster. They dont know what that is, seriously. SM and ASM wont even back me on getting a duty roster completed. I know for a fact on the last Camporee they did not even plan a menu. I talked to the adult that asked my kid what he wanted to eat and that adult was buying groceries to take to camp for the weekend.
  10. Our youth leadership doesn't do that nor do the adults. I'm looking at a way to help the Scouts who are overlooked.
  11. No, we held the thing under our chest once it was "full" with our arms to float.
  12. We didnt wrap them around our neck. We held the pants behind our head, legs sticking out the back, then brought them swiftly over our head and then closed the top end with our arms.
  13. I know there are Scouts that will never offer their ideas for menus because of other Scouts who are loud and outgoing. I know they will stand back and not cook because there is someone else jumping in to do it first. Its the Scouts that don't have that me first, I gotta win and be first attitude. So, yeah we do have those Scouts that sit back and dont jump to the front just because its not how they are.
  14. I don't recall using a belt, but its been a few days. Seems like we tied each leg closed and just started with our pants behind our head and swiftly pulled them to our front to fill with air and just used our arms to close the top of the pants with our arms to keep the air in.
  15. So, we have several Scouts who are more introverted. Scouts that by thier nature don't run to volunteer to be first. The kind that sort if stand off to the side waiting to be prompted to participate. I tend to be more introverted myself, so I understand. It's a personality trait you don't just try to "teach" away by encouraging people to be more outgoing. Would it be wrong to invite those Scouts on a Patrol campout where they will have more opportunity to participate without the rowdy crowd?
  16. My son has issues with earning 1st class because of the swimming requirement. We live 45 minutes from a pool and its challenging to get there often enough for him to get the confidence and stamina needed for the 1st Class Swim test. May be stuck at 2nd...
  17. SM only has one position. He is just lazy and doesnt care.
  18. I have my ID# from when I was a Youth. Only because I found an old ID card. It was before online record keeping, and since the Council Office couldnt find it, I am guessing all the paper records associated with my number were just purged. You know... they round filed it all.
  19. Maybe its resolved, but earlier this year there were servers blocking anything from Scoutbook because it was making their SPAM filters go off.
  20. Yeah.. I mentioned in our committee channel in Slack about behavior. SM told me if thats what I wanted I should leave the Troop and find an ROTC program. Scouts isnt military. I have shut up since then, but ready to ramp up. To the point I dont care if he leaves.
  21. I am not sure that Scoutbook is setup to send out emails in a consistent or reliable manner.
  22. Our Scouts can not stay still during opening. They can not keep their mouths shut during openings. We have not had a proper PLC in two years. Typically the SM shows up 15 minutes late and the Scouts roam around. When the SM does show up there is usually no plan and there are a lot of meetings that devolve into playing on the playground. Nothing is going particularly well. Getting everyone in Uniform consistently would be a great start. No, it wasnt always like this in the Troop.
  23. Our SPL thought his job was going to be calling flags at the opening. He did not realize there were other responsibilities associated with the position. Because THE ADULTS (SM and ASM) WONT TRAIN the youth and wont let those of that know and are willing to train. 3 years ago we had 7 Eagles, they went to COH and never came back. We have no Scouts older than 14 or First Class and its a giant mess that we have. A Unit can not be youth led if they dont know what to do and the adults arent willing to help show the way.
  24. I am the CC and the SM is the one with a Pack Unit number instead of the Troop number because he doesnt care.
