  1. As long as you pay your membership fee why would BSA care about anyone anyone being a member of another group?
  2. Yes, we are Yes, we are staying under 15. We have 9 girls right now. We plan on sticking to the size limit of 15. Our Boys Scouts just added 1 more boy last month and stands at 8 boys, in a few month we will be adding 3 cubs that will be crossing over. I am excited to soon have enough boys in the troop to have two patrols again.
  3. I live in the mountains, the girls and boys here love the outdoors. We have girls (sisters) that tagged along with our cub scouts and camped without the flushies or outlets, have been doing so for years. We had no Girl Scouts in our area, when presented with the idea of Co-Ed Cubs the reaction from the Cub parents and some cub leaders was. . . okay. . . we are forming an outdoor based Girl Scout Troop (GSUSA) , the girls will go camping, hiking, cook over camp fires, because that is what the girls have decided what they want to do. The Girl Scout Troop after one month is already bigg
  4. A Scout is Helpful. A Scout cares about other people. He willingly volunteers to help others without expecting payment or reward. A Scout is Friendly. A Scout is a friend to all. He is a brother to other Scouts. He offers his friendship to people of all races and nations, and respects them even if their beliefs and customs are different from his own. We should not now consider the GSUSA to be our enemy, there has been a long history of Girl Scouts doing things with the Boy Scouts. The Girl Scouts in my area used to go to the Scout Summer Camp to do shooting spor
  5. Look at these girls: http://epaper.bostonglobe.com/infinity/article_popover_share.aspx?guid=12c84660-0428-44b3-a64b-5d1232622bd8 That article make me want to join up as a Girl Scout leader, maybe be a troop's outdoor expert. Looks fantastic to me, I have been reading about the Girl Scouts, they seem fantastic to me. There is a long list of outdoor thinks they can do. They are Girl lead, they have patrols. Unlike Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts can run power tools, including chain saws. I am reading a lot of good things about Girl Scouts that they are actually doing better t
  6. Hold up. . . . The quote ""It doesn't matter what boys think, it only matters what girls want."" is not from anyone of any importance in Boy Scouts, I have never seen anyone at the national level say that or write that. I don't think they would ever say such a thing. Two months ago I saw a video in which a Cub Master was sitting with her son and daughter and was being interviewed by CNN about girls joining the pack and those words came out of her mouth. I will never forget that. I have since seen that quote pop up several more times in comment sections, other videos and twitt
  7. In all the news stories I have been reading about girls joining boy scouts the one quote that I keep seeing over and over again from scouters that sums it all up and sticks with me is: "It doesn't matter what boys think, it only matters what girls want." That should be the new scout motto.
  8. If you look here ( https://douglasernst.blog/tag/star-wars/ ) Kathleen Kennedy (The CEO of Star Wars) is wearing a "The Force Is Female" shirt. and Rian Johnson (Director of Last Jedi) is posting that he likes and wants a shirt that says, "Ask Me About My Feminist Film Agenda"
  9. What is shocking about the Boy Scout brand right now is if you go onto Google and do a search for "Boy Scouts" most of what you see is NOT what we should be seeing from a healthy and loved program. Most of what you see are about Girls in the Boy Scouts and most those pages go out of their way to attack boys. There are many stories about pedophile scout leaders. Many pages about getting God out of scouting. While talking to boys ages 11 to 17 about joining scouts, I get an earful of bad impressions young men now have of scouting that was not the case back in the 1970's when I was a sco
  10. Who claims there was a feminist agenda in star wars? Why feminists of course. . . https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/dec/18/star-wars-the-last-jedi-women-bechdel-test http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/star-wars/feature/a845869/star-wars-the-last-jedi-feminist-feminism/ https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2017/12/14/star-wars-last-jedi-feminist-women/943736001/ https://moneyish.com/ish/why-the-last-jedi-proves-that-star-wars-future-is-female/
  11. Yeah, was a big Star Wars fan all my life, but I am just done with it, it is just not fun anymore. The girls and feminists can have it. There is no point complaining or getting upset about it, I am powerless to do anything about it. The people in charge are not listening, they have their own agenda that I am not a part of. So it is best that I just walk away and find something that I can enjoy, that will be a better use of my time.
  12. YWCA?? isn't that just for Girls? How in the world can you have a club just for Girls? Isn't that a bit sexist? Won't someone get offended? Isn't GSUSA still just for Girls? How can such a thing exist? It is the current year! Oh wait. . . Girls can have their own clubs, but boys can't. Got it. It is sad to see the greatest boys club ever die like this. . . A death by a million helicopters and power point slides. . . From an outdoor game ---->>>> to a boring indoor classroom of advancement.
  13. I was a scout for over 5 years and made first class, scouting was one of the best things that I remember from my teen years. I got a lot of merit badges that I found fun, but going for eagle was not part of my path in scouting. As a first class scout I was allowed to go on week long 50 mile hikes, that is what I wanted more than anything. I never felt bad about not getting eagle. I have always admired the guys in my troop that got eagle, because they truly earned it on their own. My son is a scout now and a very good one. Whatever rank he gets does not matter to me as much as seeing him be a
  14. I just gave it a google. . . . Wow, "Be, Know, Do" that is amazing. That is fantastic stuff! Very fitting to scouting. Thank you for giving me a new path to explore.
  15. The new classroom style of wood badge with its power point slides, flip charts, movies and focus on learning to make presentations may have been carried from wood badge into scouting, it is most visible in the new way camporees are run now. Many camporees activities consist of presentation stations were the boys sit on folding chairs and watch a flip chart presentation on, water safety, plant ID, how to make a survival kit, and wilderness survival. Patrols are awarded points for paying attention and interacting in an active manor with the teacher. The boys in my troop find camporees base
  16. The best measure of a quality of a troop is the boys showing up and having fun. When you see the SPL running the meetings and outings with just a little coaching from the SM when needed and the boys are having fun you have a quality troop. If the adult leaders are are supporting the SM, making his job as easy as possible you have quality set of adults. When the boys are advancing to the rank of First Class by just doing the normal scout stuff while having fun you have a quality program.
  17. For quality control in the BSA look up "Tuckman's stages of group development" and you can also read Blanchard's book "The Power of Ethical Management" this is in part what the new Wood Badge is based on and they cover management quality control. The goal of the new wood badge program is to teach adults to be all purpose team managers and bring a more school like atmosphere to scouting.
  18. I just saw on the news that over in the UK the Girl Scouts (Girl Guides) are letting 25 year old men who identify as a female shower with the girls 5 to 25. There are people over there that are very upset about the change, don't worry I am sure their leaders will be able to calm everyone down and remind everyone that the Girls need to all live by the Girl Scout law.
  19. Through out my life when I have been in all boy groups or all men groups, there was a feeling of teamwork, a relaxed state were you knew the guys had your back, there was a high level of trust and focus on the task at hand. When you threw in a girl or woman the dynamic changed instantly, everyone's guard went up and we had to be careful what we did, what we said, what might be inferred, everyone was walking on egg shells at that point. Focus shifted from the the job or goal at hand to doing the job while walking on egg shells and not upsetting the girl. Sure we got the job done, but at a h
  20. I would love to see what would happen if BSA had 100% female leadership top to bottom and all the youth in the program were girls. Maybe, the future of BSA is female. With 90% of all girls expressing interest in joining a group like BSA who knows?
  21. BSA National does not care what the scouts and scouters think. The limited survey that was done over the summer was not a honest survey. They showed a video pushing hard to let girls into scouting and then the survey questions were written in a very leading way to get the answers they wanted. They know what they are doing is unpopular, they are just going to force it through.
  22. What really bothers me about this is our troop and the troops around me and our local council are upholding the ideals of scouting the best we can. We believe deeply in the spirit of scouting. But we all being forced to put up with what seems to be a whole lot of lies coming down from national that has really been bothering me. The guys that make the 1.6 million dollar yearly salaries and are the voice and face of the Boy Scouts of America are not being very scout like at all when they are this dishonest. Its gotten to the point that when I see the scout law the first thing that comes to m
  23. Wow, those are really great reasons. The best reasons I have heard to date.
