I really enjoy their weekly emails they send out for when I forget to check there. I participate in their twitter chats weekly and they threw that link out awhile back. I second lots of good info!

I passed this link along to our PCC and Cubmaster I just covered with them the other day how we'll have a lot more time during pack meets now (with beltloops and pins going away, we'll do the new loops/pins at den meets) and that means more time for activities at them. Great ideas listed. Thanks for sharing!

My son's Tiger year (2012), no one recruited in the schools until AFTER twilight camp, so he missed out on that. In the years after, we made sure to recruit in all the schools beforehand. We have a 5 day twilight camp, 5:30pm-8:45pm that we invite them to along to. They partner up with a parent and enjoy the activities. They are always a small group and if we need to accommodate them on any activities, we do so they can enjoy it to the best of their and our ability. In the past two years, its went very well!

Forum Newbie, Experienced (But A Little Rusty) Scouter
Faith replied to mgood777's topic in New to the Forum?
Welcome to the forums & back to scouting I wish I had some memories to share from back then but sadly the only thing I have from that year is a birth certificate (ducks) Love seeing all the flashback pics on here. Hope to see you around and please continue sharing! -
Definitely bookmarking this to add to. This is also our theme this summer (well, more specifically Scouts of the Roundtable.)

I always believed what perdidochas quoted above was referring to individual den camping, not camping as a whole pack/district/council (like you are referring to at the council-organized campout.) I will jump on the bandwagon here and second the family camping idea, its what we have done. A lot of our scouts can't make the council campouts due to cost or timing and we only do one pack campout a year. I believe our scouts should camp more than 3 times before they hit Webelos. Just my two cents

We've tried a few different methods. This year, we've did the following: Scouts sell popcorn in the beginning. If they sell over $250, 10% goes in their scout account (not trying to open that can of worms in here but yes we have them and they help a lot with re-charter.) As far as dues go, each scout is asked to pay $45 a year (they can do $5 a month from Sept - May.) Den keeps half, pack keeps half. On the den level, I've been able to buy all the materials for our scouts for this year for all den meets, along with having enough left over to cover our end of the year party. We also use it throughout the year for scouts who may not have been able to afford things like a PWD car or other 'extras'. On a pack level, it pays for all their awards and helps some with smaller events (cubmobile race, etc.)

If you decide to do that, I'd gladly watch them!

Oh I definitely will (keep checking out the info and popping in here.) I appreciate everything everyone contributes on here. Even the banter and such that goes on, reading on here makes work go by quicker when I'm stuck on here til 1am most nights

Sadly, I will have to refer to online resources (including roundtable ones) at this point. Half the time, I am working during our RT meets. The other half, I attend but we recently got new commissioners (actually our roundtable meets are new as before we were only conducting pack info/etc. at them) so we're playing catch up on a lot. So far nothing has been brought up about the changes, it was left to me for the past month to relay what I had (and everyone else could look around online as well for info.) We're getting it together, slowly, but I will keep my eyes open (and my mind as far as our RT meets go)

Thank you, that is perfect. I passed along everything you have posted in here to her, she sends her thanks as well!

Yes, if you have a minute I know current Webelos I scouts are grandfathered in next program year and can continue with the old book. For the requirements that state earning a belt loop in the current book, do they just do what the belt loop required? I'm slowly doing more research on this and had our current leader for that den asking me this. I told her those joining scouts next program year, in fifth grade for the first time, had to go by the new book. Since she will likely have old scouts and new together wouldn't it be best to use the new book for all? I suggested a den split if she didn't want to, I didn't know of any other way. I hope that makes sense, I looked around on here after posting. Please clarify if I mixed anything up. Its always much appreciated!

Sadly I missed both airings today due to our timing schedule being thrown off by a few hours (that's what happens when you don't double check ahead of time, lol.) How was it? Our training session went well, I believe, but there were a few things I could not answer (all pertaining to the upcoming Arrow of Light scouts who will be grandfathered in.) I hope I can find some more info on that to pass along!

Chris, I wish you the best of luck with that. I've never did a training event before and like you, we've had a huge lack of support from our powers that be. This is why I stepped up to do our training (although mine isn't going past pack level for the time being.) I have compiled every single thing I've found online into a 7 page document, I plan on printing it, handing it out and going over it in more detail this Saturday. I was thrown into being a den leader a few years ago and self-taught myself everything I could. I felt these program changes would be the same way so I tried to take a good chunk of that confusion away from the rest of our leaders by studying up and having a meeting to let everyone air out concerns, address various aspects of it, etc. I too was hoping we'd have our leader specific manuals by now. But I feel confident that when they roll out, we won't be too confused that it will mess up our year. *fingers crossed*

I will be watching it that afternoon Due to poor timing on my part, we have our CPR training that morning, immediately followed by a meeting I had planned a few months ago for our leaders to update them on all the new program changes coming. So I'll say my part, then we'll watch the 2nd airing of it. Hopefully I have all my ducks in a row and that airing won't prove I fudged up too much

My son earned this award his Tiger year. We did the 20? or whatnot requirements for all five patches and five pins. The pack paid for the certificate and old patch that they Still carry. I bought the other pins and patches out of pocket. As far as I know, only one other scout in our pack has earned it. They also paid for it themselves.

Thank you SSScout, I am saving that now! Good Scouting to you as well

Thank you so much, Tonkatim I'm good for doing that myself Sorry I caused confusion by bringing this thread back up, maybe I should have made a new one But now someone has all the replies in one spot!
