Over here in my Council it's normal. Smaller Council with less adult members. We try for over 40 adults every year too attend, but my course was only 36. SO I guess it depends on demand, and supply of adults. Don't know about the other Councils on here. Another problem here was timing. The DoD teachers complained about th etiming of the course. So it was changed, and no one from the Dod Schools attended..

Thank goodness I've not encountered anyone through WB like this in my Council. Sure there might be some, but I've never met any.. Sure there were Staff with the Stuffed Critters, and Staves, but not in any elitist mind set. I've served in the US Military for years, and years, and met more Elitist types there. But so far only on this board have I've heard about it. Never seeing it. Most people I know take Scouting serious because they want to help the kids. I did hear a joke once when someone said that if it weren't for the Kids Scouting would be fun. I don't and could never agree with that. I

I agree.. I love taking courses and meeting new people, and now I'm starting to Staff courses.. and yes the food is always great.. Like I said above, if you have the time and a course is offered go for it. I've never understood people not willing to take courses. YOu never know what lies around the corner. The local CM might have a problem and needs to leave or whatever, and if your trained up you can step into his or her shoes.. I'm not a UC but I went to the training. If I like I could change to a UC or whatever. And I also have a better idea of what a UC has too do.

I never saw them before WB, but saying that I watched October Sky this weekend with my son. and I was able to get a better idea of what WB was on about. And I was able to explain it to my son.. He liked the film, and the info I showed him.

I just found this last night in the Safety riles book for the BSA, Laser tag, paint ball are not OK.

Something I've found out since my return to scouting is that every course I can take I will. They have all helped me greatly. I think IOLS is a good course for every leader in Scouting to take. Gets everyone on the same sheet of paper too.

I had the chance last meeting to serve as the Troop SM While our SM was away. I took advantage of my chance and had a SM Minute, something that's not done in our Troop sadly. Anyway, I had found a great little story about Service, and told the story. Afterwards I saw that there were a few boys who had cried after my minute. I was a bit surprised, and touched by this..

Crazy.... I made some great life long friends at WB. And weather they finished or not would never want to do something like that to one of them..

Over here in TAC I've seen many adult leaders wearing Kilts. I also have one myself, and will wear it in the future. Maybe to CoH this December, and of course I'll have it when I Staff WB this next year.

I asked this same question, and it does happen that people don't finish their ticket items. Once this happens then that person would have to attend another course. I know that there were two people that had this happen to them over here. One moved back to the states, and the other was booted from the course.

The case in Oregon was won. I was told that it was still on going. Not sure which case your talking about.

Agreed. I understand that the BSA is a private club, and can make it's laws fit it's design. I am a part of the BSA and hope to stay a part of it. This law isn't changing my mind about the BSA. But the BSA does need to look with in it's self a bit better to see what's really hurting the BSA. I don't think it's gays. But the sad image that a few out there are giving it. Who's this Mr. Seinfeld? You need to read what's written, and not what you want to hear. Scouting isn't a place for sexual discussion. As a SM I also lead that back to a parent subject. But what I'm referring to is the discussion on Sexual orientation. I as a Straight male don't talk about my sexual preference to any of the boys. Same should go with any body. Leave sex out of Scouting..

I myself don't have a problem with a Homosexual being a member, leader or whatever in the BSA. I do have a problem with Sex being a part of the BSA.. Weather it's straight or homosexual sex, there shouldn't be any discussions or talk about sex in the BSA. That's my job as a parent. Leave sex out of the BSA.

Like I said above I wouldnt carry so much stuff on mine, but something that those of you who want too could do, Is drill a large hole into the top fo the staff, and put a small kit inside and then cork it or fix a wooden dowel or cap onto the top.

Ive already built my own stave, and its a simple design, with some Staff shields nailed on it. But none of all of the stuff listed on that site. just too much stuff. Id rather carry proper kit on a belt pouch.. but not on a stave. although Ive seen some with some 550 cord on them, and like mine Ive engraved information and measurement marks..

I know for a fact that TAC states in all it's leader's packets for camps etc. that there should be NO wearing of military items at the camps. But you always see it. either boots, packets, and even camo gortex jackets. I suggest to just go out and get yourselves some civi kit to use. The last thing that needed is anyone outside or inside of the BSA seeing this and thinking something else negative.
