  1. Interesting.. Only 50 pages in total.. easy to download or print..
  2. Complete Leader Specific Training for your position For the committee, who or how does this happen.
  3. I have a lot of experience with cold weather camping. 10 years serving in the Army, where you are sleeping in the elements all year with or without the right equipment. Spent 5 days in winter in Alaska running in place it was so cold and we had NO winter kit. As for civi street. I live in Switzerland, and camp a lot in the winter either in snow holes or in the open in tents in the snow. So if I may add to this discussion about 4 season tents. My troop has The North Face Rock 22s and 32s. These are three season tents. I have also several tents I use, and one thing I can say is that the 4 s
  4. What was the daily schedule like? Did you or could you bring your family, and was it worth it?
  5. Great video.. I though I saw Barak Obama's name as a former Scout on that list..
  6. SR540. One thing that I did see on the course is that the Cub Leaders gained a lot. They are an important part of the BSA. I feel that Cubs is the Base for the BSA. And it needs to do more to train them. If the Cub experinse is great the boys are more likely to continue on to Scouts. And from the group we just got they are motivated, and want to be there.
  7. One thing I like a lot about taking a course at Philmont Scout Ranch is that I can take my family with me. And there are some great activities for them to do. http://www.philmontscoutranch.org/PTC/FamilyPrograms.aspx Now I wonder what the price is to bring the family with me..
  8. I didn't say that this wasn't happening. What I was refering to was that my TG understands, and is in contact contact with me. We talk on FB almost everyday in fact. She knows my progress. But when I tell her I've finished something she's not asking me for a book on what I did. She asks me, but she also trusts me. I'll be aTG next year. So this information you guys are giving me will come in handy. Thanks.
  9. My TG told me to inform her when I was finished. And she would get my regalia ordered.. She never said I had to prove anything. On the other had. Scout Law.. A Scout is Trustworthy.
  10. Thanks guys. I'll order one through the World Scout Shop. online.
  11. I visited the World Scout Office this morning in Geneva, Switzerland. Not much going on. I was looking for the World Scouting Flag to use with the Troop. I'll have to order it from The French Location?????
  12. I use Hilleberg Tents. Best on the market. But not cheap..
  13. Hope you learned something there Mr. B..
  14. ---True. But not for long. National, again due to its attitude of 'program neutrality' is changing that in PH to make it less Venturing-specific/Ranger Award specific, making it a more generic high adventure resource course for Boy Scout & Venturing leaders. --- This is what I've been told.. And because of this, TAC has only held one course. TAC is very large..
  15. I think the Ticket /Goals are the major factor about WB. Helps to bring back things that can be achieved to improve the Troop etc.. I have also thought about Powderhorn. But they don't really do it over here because the information is too much. Europe an all.
  16. I think I'm going to work on a local training that will cover what's missing. When the time comes I'm going to ask all here for input.
  17. I know we had several on our course without more then YP and specific training. Outdoor Leadership was not attended by all either. I also read where to be considered a "Trained" Leader depends on the job you hold in the Troop. Example if your a Committee Person, then you don't need the OutDoor Leaders Course. But who decides you are Trained? I have attended all of the basic course, and also WB. I plan to go to PLC to better myself more. But what other course are there out there to help?
  18. Sadly, I'm in a mixed Culture Troop. Half of the boys aren't American. They are English/Welsh. And the leadership is also English etc.. Until our new adults and boys get older and take back control this will be the norm. The US Troops have it made. Your dealing with Americans. Not over here in TAC. We deal with Europeans.
  19. No excuses. It's just that I'm not the SM of my Troop. My son wears full uniform, and so do I. but I can't force my Troop. But that's another story. If I one day become the SM, then I will start this. But for the moment it's not up to me.. So getting them into a Scout shirt is already a big thing here.
  20. Has anyone ever contacted anyone up high in National or Council about forming courses better to train Scouters..? I've though about doing something, and my DE was for it.
  21. This I can understand.. I see that although it doesn't NEED to be several different courses of WB. I do see the need for the different programs to develop something better serving each program. I can understand the problem though. I like WB. I think I learned a lot. But like I said above, it missed a lot of what I would consider the most important, sure it covers a lot, but not most. One of my patrol members in my WB course also voiced this opinion.. The Director told him, he agreed. I too agreed with him. And again after seeing many of the Cub Leaders, they were learning most for the first ti
  22. Sorry, but I think that is wrong. This isn't the military. and the boy had an excuse. But not being about to Salute the flag as usual is wrong. I think that that is exclusion.. not what I want any boy to feel in my troop. In the field, do they wear 1000% uniforms for morning and evening Flags? I know at Summer camp we do, but a weekend camp out?
  23. Good thread. I have the same question. I've been reading a bit about this, and think I'd like to attend this course.
