  1. Crew21_Adv,

I was a part of the TAC council many many moons ago. So I thing going with the Deleware nation costuming (please don't bash me about what we call the clothing, as I've heard that regailia is now no longer acceptable), is a great idea. You might want to check out ebay, I've seen accessories, ribbon shirts, breech clothes, and several other N.A. items, that were handmade. If you pm me, I can give you me email address and pass you along with some other that would take too long to post here.

  2. Beave,

Don't get me wrong, I'm having a great time at wb, I've been wanting to take it for the past two years. I'm one of the few that sings the loudest, dances around in between sessions, and I'm the brunt of many good one line zingers that the staff throw out there.

I guess I'm expecting more out of it. But I do have one more weekend :)

    Bobwhites rule the world...

  3. Ok here's my take:

1.What do you think is the definition of a Venturing Crew? What OGE said...

2.Do you use the resources available from a Venturing Crew near you? Sometimes, if it will benefit the program of my crew then yes. I've also teamed up with other Crews on some events.

    3. How do you think a Venturing Crew fits into the scouting program? Again what OGE said. I've had my share of run ins with ASM's and SM's when my crew formed. I got the "you're stealing our older scouts!." I would remind them that they I was not stealing older scouts, they we're coming to the crew because we had a great program. I encouraged and still encouage new members who are under 18 and still with a troop to stay with the troop, but that they can do both. If the situation come where the kid has to make a decision, then it's his not mine.

Funny thing happened at WB this past weekend. I'm the only Venturing Advisor in C-39-06, and when a staff member was giving an overview of the four BSA programs (Cubs, Boy Scouts, Varsity, and Venturing) we'll they got mixed up or didn't do their homework and grouped Venturing and Venture Patrol as the same program. I politely intrupted and corrected the situation. Afterwards one of the staff members came to me and and said "Thanks, they've been butchering up, and needed to hear it from somebody else" :)

  4. Interesting thread...

Lots of folks I've talked to that have gone thru WB have told me that this would be the "top of the mountian" experience. Even though I've only completed one weekend of WB, I haven't had the "awakening" yet. I was even was pulled to the side by the CD and two other staff members asking me to not participate in one of the events, becuase I had been through it at NLS. I agreed to sit back and watch, but it kind of ticked me off that I couldn't help my patrol out, plus I paid to take the course, not sit out.

  5. I would say let her walk. But I would give her a list of other troops in your town. If the boys wanted this and the SM approved then "tuff nuggies". Listening to a game on a campout is not the end of the world. I also believe this might be best for you and the troop as this lady go away as she could cause waves later on.

  6. My Squawking Boisterous BW patrol uses the Bob-bob-bob-bob a white song. Our yell is "WhooooHoooo...SQUAWK"

The best yell is from the Beligeriant Bi-polar Bears.

    "Who are we? Da Bears!

Are we bi-polar? Yes we are No we're not...Yes we are...no we're not. The Bears changed their name on day three in the interest of being caring to other troop members.

  7. Hey GNX Guy,

I got home last night about 8 pm from my 1st session of C-39-06. Great time. And I only got "reprimanded" once. The service patrol left their shovel behind after a session, and our patrol took it for safe keeping and embellished it with orange duct tape all over it before returning it to the service patrol.

I just wished there was more time to get to know other people taking the course. There a lot of folks that are in the Cub Scout Program, and with me being the only one in a Venturing uniform, I had a few folks ask me if I was a member of the Royal Mounted Canadian BP Scouts :o)

Oh and I'm a Squawking Boisterous Bob White

  8. Here's my take on the situation.

    Program and active recruiting.

My crew is having a campout next weekend two guys that are working on Ranger are doing all the planning. We'll be caving, bluff climbing, and doing some wilderness survival stuff.

I had one young lady who joined the crew bring her friend to our family potluck. And our new President is bringing two of his friends to our campout.

From what I've seen with my Crew is keep the meetings to a bare minimum, have a few day events mixed in with the weekend events, and hold the youth accountable with their program.

  9. It's exactly one week til I start WB CR-39-06.

I think I don't have to worry about the ticket items anymore. A new crew is possibly forming so I'll concentrate my ticket on this. More details to follow.

BTW do attendees have any say so in patrols. I've been told by some of my good friend staffers that me and my best bud will not be allowed in the same patrol.

  10. I head to CR-39-06 in two weeks.

I'm kind of excited, but with all the posts earlier this month about tickets has got me concerned that some of my ticket ideas may not get approved. I have one idea for a ticket item that I hope gets approved, but time is the concern on this one.

  11. I'm all for the National Age Level Recomendations. My daughter started Daisy's at age 5 (Nov 02)and wasn't in kindergarden. Her first year as a Bownie was a little difficult as she couldn't read or write as the First and Second graders in her troop, and a few things were a little advanced for her. She's now in the 3rd grade starting her "4th year" in Brownies. Back in the spring She was given the choice to bridge to Jrs. or stay one more year as a Brownie. The Troop leader suggested that she stay one more year in Brownies, but I wanted her to cross to Jrs. I gave my daughter the choice and she wanted to stay in Brownies with her classmates.

As for the new uniform changes, I like seeing it.

    Hey scoutdad what's your thoughts?

  12. Here's how my guys do it.

Opening (Pledge or recite Venturing Oath)

    Discuss old buisness

    New buisness

    Plan upcoming event or events

    Announcements

    Advisor's words of wisdom

    Closing

We then head to Denny's or IHOP. The interesting part is most of the ideas and things happen when my youth are out of the "formal meeting".

Your youth can make it as elaberate or as simple as they want it. I would have your President come up with an agenda for you to look at for the next meeting.
