  1. Gold Winger - In our Council we cannot start selling popcorn until the United Way finish their money raising campaign.

But we have units from another Council come in early and sell. Also units from another state come in an sell.

No help from District or Council people with the problem. They did not like my idea of selling in the other Council or state early.

  2. I am for training and am trained for the positions I fill.

My council came out with the 100% training several years ago but when they started looking at the ScoutNet training records they were in for a big suprise. A lot of them were not trained per the computer. When backed into a corner they finally gave a figure of about 45% were trained they think.

I talked to our District Training person 4 years ago and told him that if he would give the info on a persons training I would build a spreadsheet of the status of every person in the District. To date - nothing. They are now debating whether to accept a person's word (A Scout is Trustworthy) that they received training for a position.

They have an excellent staff and from Sep through June do a complete traing program every two months. Wood Badge each spring.

They talked about not recharting units without 100% trained leaders until they realized they would not recharter about 75% to 80% of the units.

  3. It will take a little time to get things set up to work on the blue card problem. When it get resolved it will let everyone know how it came out.

Thanks for all your advice. Not now but in the future the Scouts in our Council thank you also.

  4. John-in-KC

It is the policy of the Council Advancement Committee.

Our District Advancement Chairman sits on the Council Advancement Committee. The District Advancement Chairman has District Scouters who go to the units to conduct the EBORs. They have all received the training in giving the proper EBORs. In their training they are told (I have not had this training) that all the blue cards for the 21 MB should be reviewed by them before giving the EBOR. Without the cards there is no review.

Not that anyone would but some people have long memories. I do not want to have any youth or SM or unit get in a position where testing this could come back to haunt them several years down the line.

  5. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. Please keep them coming.

I would not mind having a SM (I do have one in mind) making an issue about the blue cards with the Scouter from the District but do not want the Scout to go through getting ready for a BOR and then not having it. Can anyone come up with away to do this without a Scout being put in the middle?

    Thanks again.

  6. I have to say I was lucky. My wife and I had three sons. My adult Scouting started when my oldest came running out to the carport when I got home one day telling me that he wanted to join the Cub Scouts. He heard about it in school.

Well, to make the story short (if a Scouter can do that), all three sons are now Eagles.

I cannot remember a time when one of them wanted to quit. I was just lucky and the Pack and Troop programs were good.

Thirty some odd years later I am on a Troop Committe with my oldest son the SM. Two of the boys in the Troop are my grandsons.

I do like broccoli but cannot stand Brussel sprouts. Ugh!

  7. I have read everything I can find on Eagle Boards of Review.

Where I am located the Council Advancement Committee has made it a policy that when a Scout comes before his Eagle Board of Review he must have in his possession all of his blue cards for Eagle. Without them the board will not be held.

Is there any way around this since this is not Nationals policy but a local one?

  8. Bob White - help me out.

Apache Bob writes "Only a paid professional Scouter can ask for donations of money."

Bob White writes "That is incorrect. Units must sell a service or product, representatives of the Council may seek donations on behalf of the local corporation for the benefit of all units."

Aren't you saying the same thing as I am? Units sell. Council seek donations.
