  1. I received this email from a friend and long time Scouter. Some interesting news from NOAC. Centennial uniform being redone and shorts are on the way back. As you have already heard, Goshen is out for a number of reasons. The big news. Venture girls are going to be allowed to earn rank advancements with the ability to earn Eagle and join the OA. The announcement has not been made and maybe done quietly. The Girl Scouts have major problems especially financially and probably will be gone in 10 years or less. The parts of the New BSA are just now being announced and there ar
  2. From what I am hearing girls in the Venturing program in 2010 will start rank advancement all the way up to Eagle Scout. Who will be the first girl Eagle Scout?
  3. I may have missed reading about this in the forum. If so I still would like to know. Where exactly in West Virginia did nation purchase the 10,000 acres for the new camp? Thanks in advance for your help.
  4. Groundhogs are good for giving us the weather forecast. Of course, they are only good for that on February 2nd and then they are only 50% correct most of the time.
  5. Come on in, the weather's fine. Just find a log and sit a spell.
  6. Silence! No noise! That always scared me. What were they into.
  7. The camp our boys attended last year used the new program. It worked without a problem. Try it before you down it. You might be very suprised.

Hope it helps some.
  9. durabostbay - if you make contact with them please let me know if you can stay in a barracks over night and eat in a dining hall? We have been going to Fr Bragg every other year and doing that. It might be a change to go to some place new. Thanks
  10. Oh my gosh! PETA has got someone from its organization into BSA who is making our uniform's animal friendly. Shades of Sea Kittens!
  11. It is a great article. All the boys went to one elementary school into one Pack and then to the Troop.
  12. It is hard some of the times but stay with it. It is much easier to run the troop yourself than let the boys run it. The way things are taught now days the boys are many times given everything without them doing anything. So you have to spend alot of your time teaching them how to lead and to take charge. Keep the faith.
  13. Not that anyone would forget that tomorrow is Valentines Day. But if you did forget - now is the time to pick up a card, flowers, or candy (or all three).
  14. Trevorum - Reorganization is good for the soul. I have understood this for many a year from different business reorganizations I have been associated with. But always remember: We trained hard but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form into teams, we would be re-organized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by re-organizing; and what a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency, and demoralization. It looks like the Scouting movement has moved into the next century. May it be
  15. Everyone is yakking about the sea kittens. My real concern is about the Air Puppies and how they are doing.
  16. jet526 - I talked to past Wood Badge SM last night and they both told me that in our Council we have records that go back into the 60's. And that national has a list of all the old records.
  17. I worked for an Insurance company for nine year in administration. When worked for a software company for 15 years (worked in the field - selling and customer service). Then moved jobs again and worked up to become a senior accountant. And somewhere in there I served on active duty for three years and 6 in the Nation Guard. But now I have found the perfect job - I am retired!

  20. Does anyone know if National keeps a record of who finished Wood Badge? That way jet526 could know if his father did get his beads.
  21. The district should be there to support the units not the other way around. Yes, district people should be putting on camporees, roundtables, FOS, food drives, etc to assist the Troops. But the SM should be only concerned with his troop and his Scouts.
  22. Also try http://knots.boy-scouts.net/ I can see several knots not listed on this list though.
  23. In this day of emails and cheap cell phone calls the one thing that get though to them is an old fashioned letter. They can't see it on their computer. They can't just listen to your voice. They have to pick it up and read it. I think they take more notice of a hand written letter than any thing else you could sent them.
