  2. Ed Westcott was the official photographer of the Manhattan Project, . He captured many of the social activities at Oak Ridge including scout activities. 3. I don’t think posting a very biased attack on the MB from some very conservative website is very helpful to the conversation, especially when most of the article is based on supposition about MB could and how it could be manipulated rather than how it is actually written.

  4. Why I love traditional scouting, created in 1970, that kept the hands on skills of the pioneer and outdoorsman 😌 maybe I'm just biased as a Rover Scout, though. I hope this MB opens dialogue and creates friendships, but as others have discussed, it's something they can sit and do without much hands on work.

  5. Yep, HIS WAY. I probably have Asperger's, too. I was considered "unusual" in my teen years. I spent more time at Radio Shack than at the mall. I struggled socially in many of the same ways my son does now. Fast forward. I found a wonderful husband who loves me as is. I'm one of very few geeky female software engineers in my workplace, and I love my job! I wish I had found MY WAY and the confidence to do what made me happy at a much younger age Your son is blessed to have a dad who loves him for who he is and just wants him to be happy. Way to go, Dad!

  7. I'm glad I'm not a scout anymore. I would have been the token minority. I don't think anyone has thought through how those conversations will really happen. Peer pressure is rough and the minority scouts will mostly not be equipped to bring up tough issues in a good way. So they will just gloss over issues they barely understand themselves.

  8. A SCOUT is BRAVE. "He has the courage to face danger in spite of fear, and to stand up for the right against the coaxing of friends or the jeers or threats of enemies; and defeat does not down him." ...Scout Law since 1911.

  9. I have a gay non binary scout in my Troop. I was just thinking they are going to be busy talking with a lot of other scouts if I'm not careful. I'll need to talk with them to see how they would want to handle this. (I'm still getting comfortable with using the proper pronouns).

  10. Looking through the changes, I think BSA avoided controversy which is fine. I really question why we couldn't just add or change a few requirements in Citizenship in the Community and call it a day.

  11. One of the minor problems I have with this badge, which is the same issue I have with the disability badge, is the requirement to find and talk with someone who is disabled or, in this case, different from you. This kind of turns different scouts, as it does with disabled scouts, into unwitting and perhaps in some cases unwilling "specimens" for investigation to get a badge. We've all had scout who are pretty zealous in their pursuit of knocking off a merit badge requirement. I hope counselors for this badge will talk about tact when seeking out someone to talk to. Not every disabled kid wants

  12. My kids used to play at the Leslie Groves park in Richland WA, the other plutonium manufacturing site. Fascinating history and still not cleaned up.
