  1. Please don't use the term "we" to imply some sort of general, unanimous consensus among members of our Church. Scouting is a perfect fit for my daughters. Scouting would have been a wonderful fit for my older sister. Dahlquist is addressing current LDS Scouts, and how they can transition more or less seamlessly into community units. Since there aren't any female Scouts in units chartered by the church, there isn't any reason to address that possibility.

  2. Great link, @The Latin Scot. I suppose it's comforting that parents won't see anyone from LDS nudging them to swamp our units with their little ladies -- in spite of this statement on the very same link (emphasis mine): It's a big country. And a lot can happen in a year.

I see the issue being a few things: 1) LDS youth that want to continue, may or may not find support in the idea from their church... this puts the young man's family and the young man at odds with the direction of their faith's leadership. Will this happen? Maybe, maybe not. But much like a LDS mom working outside the home... while I don't think its expressly forbidden, its obviously not encouraged. Making those that do an outlier in their faith community. The same will likely hold true from scouts / scouters who continue after the LDS exits. 2) LDS scouts are used to the BSA pr

  6. When I was District Advancement Chairman, I went to a lot of Eagle Courts of Honor. I bought one of the poly/wool uniforms just for that and didn't put any knots on it. I wore my two medals, Eagle Scout and Scouters Training Award, pinned to the shirt. I'd occasionally break it out for a council annual banquet or something like that. For pretty much everything else, I wore other shirts with knots but no medals. I like the idea of medals sized - uniformly - so that five will fit neatly above the pocket.
