Looks like the links don't work (aren't clickable)... here's an example: http://www.scouter.com/forum/scouting-history/368462-my-trip-to-gilwell?s=a6db7a1334a7fbca3fba48f537a34755

Having a darn hard time using the site. Doesn't work in IE. In firefox, click on a topic and page number is not right (sometimes 1, sometimes 2 and then sometimes you can get the real number of pages). Some articles are not visible.
The hardest part is that I really miss the page that was the last 24 hours of activity. Before it was a short summary. Now I need to page thru everyone's origianl message which I just don't want to see again.
The new improvements have alot of promise, but the site is no where near as easy to use and read as it was before. The "efficiency" aspect was lost.
Alot of the features are just darn flaky too. Needs time to mature and stabalize.

I notice that this site is really slow. I was able to count to 4 one thousand after clicking like before it stopped "working" and the like showed up. It also takes a long time travel from one page to another, and posting comments takes forever. It is not my connection either because everything else is still working at normal speed.
Edit: I counted to 6 one thousand before this post stopped "working" and another two before it showed up on screen.

Have no idea what it means?

Two questions:
1) On the list of active topics from the last 24 hours (the grid, not the one with the original post), some of the topics are highlighted green? Any idea why?
2) Links aren't coming through as clickable. Is this my settings or the forum software?
Thanks for everything you've done. And, I do agree that I miss ads for villas in southern France.

Would it be possible to put a button to advanc/changee pages at the bottom of the page as well as the top, where it is now? It would make for a much smoother experiencei when reading through topics that are several pages long.

Not sure if anyone is having the same issue I am. Using IE, have FiOS, up-to-date java runtime and all those other plug ins, make sure my computer overhead is low and have a pretty fast PC. Navigation lags big time. Posting is even worse. It takes literally 30 seconds to over 1.5 minutes for something to post. I have tried this on two different PCs and my iPad. All PCs are directly connected to the home network (not wifi) and I have top speed FioS. This is the only website I visit with these issues. Checking to see if anyone else is having this issue.

1) When I opened this thread for the first time today, it hesitated, and I finally noticed that the page count was "1 of 1". Then it changed to "2 of 2" then "3 of 3" then "4 of 4" . The old system would immediately note the total page count .
2) Note the notation at the head of this page: What is a "STICKY TOPIC"?? I thought we ate the last of the "pie".
3) Is there still an archive of the old magazine? Or do we google that?

SR540Beaver commented02-12-2013, 08:52 AMEditing a commentA sticky topic always appears at the top of the list so it is more noticable. In many forums I frequent, the board rules are usually in a sticky.

Slow response time is always frustrating regardless of where it happens. Please do keep in mind that Scouter.com is a FREE service provided out of a love for Scouting. We are probably never going to see lightening fast response time.

jblake47 commented02-22-2013, 06:21 AMEditing a commentLightening speeds? I'd settle for a casual walk. Waiting over a minute for a page to appear just doesn't fit with any normal internet process, even those with huge pictures. Posts that take 1+ minutes to update and pages that take 1+ minutes to move to just isn't acceptable whether it's free or not.

I think we're getting there, slowly. Doesn't seem to show the entire thread unless I log in...And when posting a reply, the little tab shows up at the top and says "WORKING"...but it seems to take forever to accept my post...I give up after 30-60 seconds and have to move on... In general the site seems slow to respond to mouse clicks.
Not that I'm complaining, mind you....

I have the last 24 hours link bookmarked in my browser, but to get a useful display, I have to click the more button on the bottom. Can we make that the default display?
As for many of the problems people are seeing with the display of threads, one of the causes is that the software uses javascript to deliver the content. For a thread with 60 posts, it downloads all of them at once, and then uses javascript to populate the page numbers and order the posts. The supposed advantage to this, is it offloads some of the processing from the server to the browser. The disadvantage of this, is that it will never work correctly for some of you. It is dependent on you having the correct browser, and the correct versions of those browsers. So you either upgrade your older browser, switch browsers (if you can) or live with it. It's one of the reasons in the company I used to work for, one of the requirements of all web software was it had to be functional with javascript (and images) turned off (unless the some aspect of the application required them - then it should gracefully explain to the user). That way it would (theoretically at least) work even from an old cell phone browser.

When entering the forum just now on my iPad, I got a popup ad for an app for scouter.com, I clicked it and it took me to an app called Forum Runner for VBulletin. It costs $2, which is fine as long as it provides some advantage over the iPad's regular browser. Has anyone used this? What does it do? What do you think?

NJCubScouter commented02-13-2013, 08:06 AMEditing a commentWell, I decided to gamble the $2 and download the app... but I can't find scouter.com in there anywhere. I tried several different searches, but got nothing. I assume the site is "registered" with the app, because otherwise the promotional popup would not have popped up. Right? Anyone?
