  1. I'm making the trip back to Gilwell Park this summer as the SPL (Backup course Director). This is my second time as staff and my 4th trip.
  2. Mark, When I present FOS, I try to talk from my heart. What I mean is, what Scouting has done for my family, others I been involved with. I don't use the script at all. I do talk about how much it takes to support a youth in the Scouting program, but mostly about what it will do for their youth. I have found over the years, that to sell a program (ie:Scouting, FOS,Wood Badge, etc.) you have to believe in it. Worst thing is to have someone do a FOS presentation that doesn't believe in it. I have also gathered pictures of the unit and shown them in a powerpoint presentation. Dancin
  3. Thanks, but neither of these have Rope Gates. What I'm looking for is a picture of a gate made with rope, not spars. I've checked all the pioneering books and they do not show those type of gates. My friend said he saw one at the 1993 Jamboree. If you've seen a troop put one up or passed over one on the internet, please let me know. Thanks again, Dancin
  4. My primary registration is as an Assistant Council Commissioner (Training), I am registered as a Scoutmaster, and also as a Cub Scout Pack Committee member. Dancin

  6. I have a friend doing a special project and wants to include a rope gate entrance to an area. Can anyone guide me to an area with rope gates or e-mail information. Thanks, Dancin

    Neckerchiefs

We wear a custom neckerchief. It is Green with Gold piping and the troop logo screened on it. We also wear troop hats and have a troop slide that we had made up. It it in the shape of the lower half of Michigan with a Fluer De Ley in the center with the troop number at the top. It is also green with gold. The scouts have to have to wear all three at every meeting and when traveling to events. We give them to them when they crossover into or join the troop.
  8. I went to our council Pow Wow yesterday to man a booth in the midway for Wood Badge and the 2005 Jamboree. Used Powerpoint presentations with 2 laptops and 2 large flat screem lcd monitors. The great thing, my crew of myself, and two other staffers signed up 15 participants during the day. We now have 30+ registered and can now concentrate on filling up the course with 56. I felt like a car salesman talking with potential participants, asking what can I do to get you signed up today. What fun, networking and talking with friends. Dancin
  9. The five goals are the means to fullfil your vision and mission. The leadership skills are used to complete your goals. If your vision and mission is to be a more caring and understanding leader then you create five goals to accomplish that. One such goal might be to try to have more females involved in troops and the diversity skill could be used as presenting a discussion at roundtable what female leader involvement brings to the program. 10. I am the Senior Patrol Leader (Backup Course Director) for the 2004 course in our council. When the Course Director and myself went to the Course Director's Conference, there was a discussion on the Vision and Goals. In reading the syllabus, we realized that it is one vision, 5 goals. These goals are not tickets, the vision and the goals to accomplish this vision are the TICKET. We have given the Troop Guides sample tickets to review and have told the whole staff, ONE VISION, FIVE GOALS. As the Troop Guides started looking over the sample tickets (seven out of eight were participants in the la
  11. Create a powerpoint presentation with pictures from the 2001 Jamboree and information about the 2005 Jamboree. Go to Roundtables, the OA meetings, and anyplace where scouts meet. Dancin
  12. We do a five year rotation. We have two council camps that are in the mix of the rotation, but the Scouts pick the other camps we go to. This seems to work for them. They do not see a more then once, with the exepction of this year when they are going back to the camp we went to last year. They liked it that much. I also have half my troop going to the Jamboree in 05, and they wanted to save some money for that, so last years camp made it easy for them. Dancin
  13. SR540Beaver Our council contingent is 40. Four adult leaders, Four youth leaders, ie(SPL,ASPL,QM,Scribe) and 4 patrols of 8 each. We are 7 away from a second contingent troop. One of the ASM's in my troop is going to be my 2nd ASM and I have 8 scouts from my troop attending. (You know, the troop I serve.) You are in the Southern Region. I don't know what Sub Camp your in, but let me know which one and also what the troop number is, and I'll try to make it over to see you. You to Matua or anyone else. It will be a great time to meet fourm members. Dancin
  14. Congratulations! I am going to be the Scoutmaster for our Council's contingent. We are in the process of adding another contingent. Start recruiting those Second year Webelos as they will not be able to attend as a youth in 2010. Good Luck and hope to see you there. We will be in Sub Camp 11, Central Region. Dancin
  15. When our troop went to summer camp last year the First Year Camper program came to our campsite. They had a staff of about 6 to 8 and each camp site picked either morning or afternoon sessions. A staffer came to our camp site and worked with our scouts one on one with just what they needed from their books. The whole first year program did do a hike on Thursday afternoon. This seemed to work quite well. We are going back to that camp this year. Our of our Scouts liked it alot. Dancin
  16. My Vigil name is Achowalogen Woakus which tranlates as Hard Worker Fox

Out of Council, we have a rotation and hit our council's two camps every 5 years. Does your troop go to Dist/Council Camporees? Yes Does your troop support FOS? Yes, we give on average over $2,000.00 per year. Does your troop sell Popcorn? If not, what are your fundraisers? Yes, we also do Spaghetti Dinner Does your troop use NSP, FCFY method? 18. DS is right. My council presents about 95% of all beads at our annual Wood Badge Dinner. If you ask someone involved in the 21st Century Wood Badge Staff, their sylabus says that a Staff member from the course should be present at the ceremony. It does not say they have to be involved, but they do have to be present. It is cool to receive your beads with your patrol. With the way staff and participants go close together in the new course I've enjoyed watching the Beavers I was Troop Guide for get their beads and do other things around the council. Every time I see one, I give them a hug.
  19. Dave, Happy Birthday. I hope you and Mrs. Steele had a great dinner. A thought for the day. Sometimes, when things look their worse, the Lord always seems to be there at the right time. He's always been there for me and I know he will be there for you. Dancin
  20. I place all partial's in Troopmaster under the individual Scout's name. Every month I pull up a list of partial's for each scout and ask them how their doing. I hold all partial's until the Scout leaves the troop at 18. At that time we give the Scout a file with all his advancement information. Dancin
  21. Dave, Being so skilled in your job, makes it tough to take a lesser job. Been there. You have the knowledge, skills, and the right demeaner for the job you do. I hope you land a job in the great state of Michigan, near the place you want to be. I know in my heart, you will land a new position in the professional ranks, because that's where you need to be. Good Luck my friend, and anything I can do for you by way of letter of recommendation, just let me know. Dancin
  22. When my father was dying of cancer in 1987, about a week before he died, I asked him the same question. (He was 67) He told me if he could go back and change anything, he wouldnt. He was happy with his life and who he was as a man. Made me think. What I have gone through in my life, has made me what I am today. I believe my answer would be the same as my fathers, nothing. Dancin
  23. We also do four Courts of Honor each year, one a quarter. Every one is a potluck where the Scouts have to cook the dish and clean up after themselfs. The troop provides the Bug Juice and tablewear. We have an opening, eat the meal and then do the program. Our attendance is always large, with parents, brothers and sisters, and grandparents. We also have the last COH in June at my house everyyear. I provide Bug Juice, Hot Dogs, Buns and the familys provide the rest of the meal. Always a big blowout. Great Times. Dancin
  24. I'm 49. Would like to be old enough to see my 3 year old grandson make eagle. That would put me at about 60ish. It would be great to be the Scoutmaster for my grandson. Dancin
