  1. The Men. it" also sexist. I have heard from a lot of male leaders on this topic. BSA is implying that male leaders are not to be trusted around female scouts. the bigger problem is getting female leaders to camp. our local cub packs have already ran into this problem.
  2. We provide patrol boxes with cooking supplys. Stoves, Cast iron ware, tents, tarps, water coolers, laterns, propane and charcoal. All of the basics. We have a hand me down backpacks and pads. We do fundraising every year and the scouts decide what they need.
  3. It was under the Obama administration. But that doesn't fit the naritive.
  4. yes i do. that is one of the things i am looking to do. i want to give them the best environment for (or at least the perception of) independence. outside of weekly troop meetings. my biggest hurdle will be getting the adults on board with the extra time commitments. I am thinking of maybe some sort of patrol support position. they would only need to be there to meet the new requirement. As the troop pays for the adult registration fees, and less time commitment. i might get some bites. thankfully we have more than enough ASM support for our troop camping and trips.
  5. Hi i am in a smaller troop with limited leader availability. I am looking for some ideas to try and keep our patrols active in spite of the new G2SS rules requiring 2 21+ leaders at all patrol activities and meetings. i was thinking of maybe a patrol night . any help would be great.
  6. It was never designed to. I recently went to a district/ council key 3 meeting on the new program. that subject was brought up. The CE bluntly said that we were to do anything to make the new program work. commenting that council /national were not going to be policing units if dens and patrols were coed. "it will morph into what it will morph into". and we need to follow the Canadian and European model of scouting. I also asked about the new changes to G2SS. Never heard of it and we will get back to you was the answer. the direction is clear. at least he gave an honest answer.
  7. its in the new update to G2SS Barriers to abuse last sentence Scouting’s Barriers to Abuse The BSA has adopted the following policies for the safety and well-being of its members. These policies primarily protect youth members; however, they also serve to protect adult leaders. All parents and caregivers should understand that our leaders are to abide by these safeguards. Parents and youth are strongly encouraged to use these safeguards outside the Scouting program. Registered leaders must follow these guidelines with all Scouting youth outside of Scouting activities.
  8. Well said. my thoughts exactly. this is the type of scouting my scouts want. I enabled them to do it(with a lot of parent and leader push back). but now with these changes thier program will suffer.
  9. I might be wrong, but i think the BSA is self insured. Either way its all run and decided by the lawyers now. no thought given to how it will effect how the program is delivered at the local level.
  10. It is the latter. other changes to G2SS no registered scout leader will have one on one contact with a scout both inside and outside of scouting all adult registered leaders must follow the G2SS outside of scouting. trying to get clarification from my district and council. they had no idea of any changes to the G2SS. said they get back to me. still waiting( wont hold my breath)
  11. but it will. i have a small troop where am i to get the all the adult leaders from to make it work? i can no longer use the 18 to 20 ASM'S . (no longer count for 2 deep leadership) most patrol activities and meetings happen during the week when leaders are working. i
  12. Sadly. Not any more in the new scouts bsa program. Unfortunately I belive this is just the beginning. I am starting to reach my breaking point.
  13. Up to last year, patrols could do overnite campouts and day hikes with the SM approvell. I got our patrols out doing it(with some hesitation from other leaders). Now that's a nogo unless I can find another 4-6 leaders😭🤔. All those new meetings sadly now gone. 1 step forward two back.
  14. I would double check with Philmont this is from the new 2018 G2SS version that contains updates as of May 2018. Adult Supervision Two registered adult leaders 21 years of age or over are required at all Scouting activities, including meetings. There must be a registered female adult leader over 21 in every unit serving females. A registered female adult leader over 21 must be present for any activity involving female youth. Notwithstanding the minimum leader requirements, age- and program-appropriate supervision must always be provided. All adults accompanying a Scouting unit who
  15. Awesome lol I am on it. ill make one for all the leaders i know. i could sell them at Roundtable.
  16. no interpretation needed. it says "both inside and outside of scouting". i went back and and also found this in the last sentence of Scouting’s Barriers to Abuse. "Registered leaders must follow these guidelines with all Scouting youth outside of Scouting activities." I can see where they are going with this. But i do not take kindly with national telling me what to do outside of scouting activities. am i now to ask all youth i encounter if they are a scout? And have to alter my interaction with them based on the G2SS?. I do like to follow the rules🙄 when organizations write
  17. HI all new here I just came back from a parade with my son. Guess me and about 30 other leaders just violated the G2SS. I also assume I can no longer pick up my friends son from school anymore. The committee that writes these rules, really need to think things through.
