  1. We have worked hard to find a new chartered organization to continue scouting for our units. BSA issues aside, I have an issue with the lack of candor by the insurance company with the court on its promise to promote scouting. Instead, it is creating fear, uncertainty and doubt. As a result of the recommendations of the company, I am aware that certain parishes in my diocese have wrested control of the units' checkbooks, rendering the unit committees as merely advisory--so much for all the training and planning. Moreover, some are not being transparent about 2024. I am personally
  2. I am COR and CC of two units at a Catholic parish in Harrisburg. The parish will not renew in 2024. Catholic Mutual recommended and the Harrisburg diocese accepted the two options of 1) charter with complete oversight or 2) disassociate if unable to provide complete oversight. Catholic Mutual is the same insurance company that stipulated in the bankruptcy proceeding that it would promote scouting in Catholic entities through 2036. Catholic Mutual is also raising the premium of any parish that charters scouting units. Unfortunately, these increased costs resulted in the decision.
  3. So, who are the insurance companies that happily billed and collected premiums and are now refusing to pay? It is quite a kick to the gut for the BSA to institute all these reforms since the 70's and 80's to provide a safer program that we enjoy today and be ripped off by the insurance companies when it come time to compensate victims for the heinous acts of others.
  4. I don't know if the link is helpful as the category is Rover Scouts which may mean Venturing and Sea Scouting in the USA. https://www.scout.org/sites/default/files/library_files/Grand Total Membership with Genders at 31 Dec 2016_0.pdf The breakout is 105K boys and 32K girls as of YE 2016.
  5. I had to search online to find out what was the underlying cause for the pre-prepared damage control email from the CSE---transparency, not so much. The CSE never mentioned BK or the law firm. We learned more from WSJ.
  6. Several months ago, I spent two weekends of Boy Scouts for adults where "feedback is a gift" was repeatedly stated. Family scouting was often accompanied by "change is inevitable." Fast forward, I have volunteered about 8 hours this weekend with 4 more to go doing a coffee break at a highway rest stop with my son's troop. I realize that there is a group here vocal in their support of BSA4G; however, I have heard a lot of negative comments from travelers ranging from snarky, sarcastic comments to matter of fact comments against BSA4G. Frankly, I have observed or dealt with these comments at
  7. From the OP, the IH is the business owner who is also the COR and ASM. This is disconcerting. I echo what Chris1 posted above--make those calls.
  8. So, it is essentially going to be called "Scouts" much like Venturing BSA is called, well, "Venturing."
  9. Thanks! I am an MBC for some MBs. I am actually tougher with my own son and have him fill out the workbooks (which are not required) for those non-Eagle MBs where I am his MBC and for all others regardless of who is the MBC. In part, it is to improve his handwriting and to see whether I need to tell him to revisit the MB pamphlet (this happens less as he improves on his research and writing skills). It's not just the scout that has this concern. I hear it from other parent MBCs who are hesitant to sign off on Eagle MBs even with the workbook filled out.
  10. Once the MBC signs off, the MB is earned. There is a narrow exception in the Guide to Advancement for impossibility. See GTA 7.0.4.7. So long as you know you completed the MB as written, you shouldn’t have to worry about the predisposition of some parents.
