  1. Oct - Angel Island Nov - Hike, Scouting for Food, and trailer gear redo Dec - Service day at Bay view Mission, No camping planned, poked the PLC about trying to head to Yosemite, there are open spots the first weekend Jan - Snow camp
  2. Camping and Summer Camp, uniformed adults are paid for, other adults pay their own way. With Summer Camp it's usually two leaders, sometimes split up between people because of vacation time limits. Registration is also paid for for uniformed adults.
  3. Our yearly dues are $165, pays for recharter, boys life, ins. Campouts are budgeted $12/day for food plus site costs. Summer camp was around $400 this year. The Seabase cost all in was estimated around $2500 including the initial gear, dive certification, airfare and transport. We have one fundraiser a year, most families prefer to write a check rather than fundraise.
  4. Condolences to the scout's family and all in your troop,
  5. The remains of the bomber are on Trail Peak. See this site for more info on the crash. There's even a patch available for climbing the peak. It was a pretty moving experience for some of the scouts, reading the plaque and seeing the names and ages (not much older than themselves) had them thinking. We hiked to the top just as a thunderstorm rolled through the valley in front of us so that added to ambiance.
  6. We sent two crews a year ago, one north, the other south. I was an advisor on the south tour. Highlights where Trail peak and the crashed bomber, and Beaubien with food, campfire, horseback riding. We also did the 30.06 reloading and shooting event as well. Did not do the Tooth, only thing really missing from our trek. Trek 7-12 is the closest match to ours.
  7. It took us 3 years, but our troop picked up a week for live aboard diving this year, after a week was turned back. We just checked the website each day after the deadline for deposits, and got lucky and grabbed the week as soon as it opened. Of the big three, it was the most difficult one for us to secure a spot.
  8. Our council does a special WFA recert class. It's still two days but mostly scenarios. As someone not active in First Aid in my career, I find it informative and additive in knowledge.
  9. 501c3, that's how our troop does it. Actually, a good chunk of the troops in the district are done that way.
  10. Self charter and petition the church to continue using the space.
  11. Database and Software Architect for a solar company
  12. Did Philmont last summer, only had to filter at one campsite. Used pump filtration, as mentioned, faster and less cumbersome then other methods. We had tablets for backup. Dry camps are the tougher part of Philmont. Used the same system the year before at Northern tier. Boiled water for cooking, pump for drinking, tablet for backup.
  13. My wife was born in S.Pittsburg so we've made the stop there a few times as well. Bough a bunch for neighbors as well, last time we were there.
  14. I'm taking over as SM come Aug, I decided I wanted my son to have at least some time in Scout lead environment. I wanted to start before summer camp, so as to get the Patrol Method kick started there, but the current SM wants to stay through it. Having looked around I don't know any troops that qualify in the immediate area, they are mostly adult oriented.
  15. How to integrate everything I've been reading, and listening to about the patrol method without any first hand experience. I did all the training along the way to becoming an ASM, and it was only through helping advise on two high adventure outings that I started to see my sons troop wasn't doing what I was seeing in action from other troops. Now with all my reading and studying I see how far off it is.
  16. We heard back that we didn't get a 2016 slot, so some of the lottery must have taken place.
