If OA is a service arm of the BSA, it seems to spend a lot of time with that arm tucked in their own pocket.
I couldn't agree with you more! and Wish more arrowmen would wake to the cause.

We still maintain Ordeals, and I have not heard any grumblings (YET) Spring and Fall ordeal but we also have Fall Fellowship which also includes Brotherhood and Vigil.

Maybe "Class A" and "Class B" are myths in your troops, but when the Scoutmaster of my troop uses one of those terms, the Scouts and Scouters know exactly what he means and act accordingly.
Same Here as well

Hobo packs, spaghetti, hamburgers/hotdogs.
Maybe a couple of cook stations instead of one.
Have the webelos either cooking for helping for sure.

I call in an EMS service, they were glad to talk to the boys and show them around the Ambulance.

We just do "Best of Show"

The WORST thing about the scoutbook calendar is that it does not automatically add new families to event notifications (even scoutbook does that). That was almost a deal break for us.
I found this out after our signups. From an IT perspective I get it, but it is something that needs correcting.
Basically that event was created before the addition, you will have to take 2 minutes to fix it yourself. It took me 2 minutes to add the new kids to the events.

ScoutBook lacks key tools for communication, calendar management, event management and financial mgmt. It also lacks easy data entry.
How so? There is a Den Forum, Calling Features, texting Features and emailing features. What else can be done to a calendar to make theirs better? I see nothing more I need from their calendar.

My son (1st year) did TrailBlazer program and Swimming that's it. Been in the Troop for a year and only worked on 1 Merit Badge and it isn't an Eagle Required either. I have a leader that want to cramp merit badges down their throat.
-
So... To repeat myself, the main point I was making is that the Webelos program is suppose to be a transition program between Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts\Adult planned and led to Youth planned and led. too many packs are trying to cram two years into a year and a half, and it looks as if his son's pack cut that even further. It was quite obvious that by short changing this scout by rushing him from the pack to the troop, he wasn't allowed to make that transition smoothly.
The Webelos Program is vital to a scouts success in the next step and I see that even in my own program. I have Female Leader and I have mothers, and the mothers that "transition" into leaders never remove their "Mother" hat and really try to coddle the young men. Again I work with many great female leaders that are stricter than I am but there are also many that shouldn't be leaders.

This is just my opinion and in no way is what I say meant to hurt any feelings.
I think not going to summer camp was a bad decision, they grow together and bond at summer camp.
My son crossed over last year and in that one year has matured some from last year in the troop, but he's got to be willing to get in there and mix it up with them as well. If he gets out now with the intention of coming back when he matures then he'll never come back (statistically). Stick it out, earn your ranks and move up!

We do something like this in our Memphis Market.
We might have 4 Troops that are in the area of 2 school and what we'll do is arrange ALL troops in that are to meet that that school and setup a Table.
On that Table is a Schedule and the nights they meet.
Pick the troops that fits your needs

He would also have to get to 1st Class to be eligible.
ahh Didn't even know that was case, TY

2 skills in one
Build a tripod (obviously using lashings)
Start a fire (times and deducted depending on method) -50 seconds (lighter) -35 seconds (1 match) preferable method is Flint Steel with Charcloth
have a soup can hanging with water in it and bring to a boil.

@@judybsa, so the Den leader is supposed to plan to have the Scouts do an activity but not help them with planning it?
that's right! They plan it in its Entirety, get them ready for planning meeting when they move up to Boy Scouts and keeps those pesky leaders from screwing it up. lol
-
Granted our Troop isn't THAT active during the summer but we do have one or two planning meetings before the school year starts. And when I say (WE) I mean the 2 patrols. You are behind the 8 ball already, get them into a meeting to plan it out.

Well, on this particular issue, as far as I know nobody has filed a lawsuit yet, after a year.
Or maybe this wasn't an ISSUE to begin with! The gays aren't knocking our door down to Join.
EDIT meant to say "AREN'T"

Our council has started getting really into spring recruiting but they always focus on the Cubs and not so much the older scouts.
I believe that's standard across the board in most Councils
-
Here in Memphis there might be 3 troops for every school. There is a signup night where youth and parents go from table to table to determine which troop is the best fit for them. Is your Council assisting you with "buzzups" signup nights?
-
If you don't have a decent Webelos Leader teaching the program as it is intended, then why not. However I don't believe skipping serves any purpose if you have a good webelos leader in hand.
