  1. I will say one thing. Dealing with the kids of today, I have found that much of my WB experience is helping. Some of my boys have no respect for others, their parents have raised brats. I have 4-5 boys out of 55 that cause all of the problems int eh Troop. Sadly their parents have done nothing about this. And the adults int eh committee are best friends with the parents so nothing is getting done about it. Sure we were tough I'm sure when I was a boy. But we always showed respect for grown ups, and older boys running the troop.

  2. My new fleece will arrive soon. I have been using my New OD Jac Shirt a lot lately. I was outside a good bit with it last weekend. Great jacket. Could use some hand pockets, but in general it's well built, and goos quality. Also very warm.

  4. Just got my new OD Jac Shirt this weekend. Was at the TAC Klondike Derby in Kandersteg, and man was it a great jacket to have on. Not only does it look great, but it's also a bit thinker then the last batch of red ones.. It will look great with an OA Patch on the back and the Philmont Bull over the shoulder.. just too add a splash of color.. The embroidered BSA Patch looks god, but I still like the old jacket patch.. Ver warm, and comfy.. everyone who saw it gawked..

  5. It looks near impossible.. Talk about coming up with an award that can't be done everywhere in Scouting.. I can't get two Alumni to travel to national or Philmont from Europe??

Looks more like some one came up with this one who wants to be the only kid in his class wearing it..

  6. I just found an interesting reply to a question about the Philmont Bull being worn on the Rad Jac Shirt:

    Boy's Life Magazine, March 1971.

    Question from reader:

Dear Brainy Buckaroo: What are the rules about the black bull patch you get at Philmont? ... Jim Bordenave, Concord, Calif.

You can buy and wear the bull patch on your red wool jacket above the left pocket if you have spent at least one night at the Philmont Scout Ranch and Explorer Base. UU

I thought that one had to do more then that to earn the bull..

  7. I like the new shirts, they are a good baggy fit. But I don't like the Sleeve pocket and the velcro. I do like the two qualities of material that are used. I've also found that some of my smaller boys are having a hard time with the Larger Centennial patches and Troop numbers fitting int eh small space on the shoulder between the pocket. I find this small pocket useless. I don't smoke, don't take my iPod to the field. I also don't like the "Swiss Sleeve2 Device. I don't need it. I have short and long sleeve shirts. I wasn't a fan of the older shirts either. They have too slim arms for me. Also the colors are too large. I really don't like the Heavier Cotton pants that zip off either.. Poor quality, and the cut is bad.. I would prefer to buy shorts, and buy pants. But both together.. I don't like it.. I have and still prefer the older trousers. Not the button pockets, but if they just stayed with that material and cut, added some thigh pockets then I would be in heaven.. I know that these existed before, But I can't find them..

  8. I feel that the Crew Members should always show respect during Crew events and hold off witht he couple aspect. If they cant do that then they should not be in teh Crew. They are around too many younger Crew members and Scouts to be doing that while Scouting.. I think its the same when adults are on an outing with the Scouts etc.. they should show respect for the scouts by holdinhg off on showing afection for one another.. DO it off alone but not when with the boys..

  9. Im from Louisiana, and for many years on Hwy 71 just as you got to the Tioga Exit. There was a small rise int eh road. It was 55-65 driving, and then the second you crossed the rise it hit 35 mph. The local Sheriff Deputy would sit there, flash his lights and give you a hand signal to pull over. He was parked already at a spot that he didnt need to drive. YOu just pulled in behing him. He hit me up one day, and I got a 95.- ticket. I went teh same day tot eh SHeriffs depts, and gave them my License, Registrations, Proof or insurqnce and my militry ID card. The Sheriff was in, and he happened to be standing at teh couter when I arrived, The Clerk handed him my paper work, and he tore the ticket up. THen said that cities shouldnt be giving young soldiers tickets when we were out serving our country. Nice of him.. ONly a couple fo years ago did I find that they finally stopped the game witht eh speed trap. Yes, my small home town of Dry Prong, La. is also a speed trap, but like Fish said, if your from the town, and your children play in teh small streets, and cross busy roads to get something at teh store then you as a citizen of that town respect teh speed limit. But the big shot city folks come racing down there and get ticketed...
