  1. I have a wool jack shirt, but I got my son a Red Fleece jacket, and I then put a BSA Jacket Patch on the left chest of it.. works and looks great.. He's the only boy in the troop completely uniformed.. anyway, I would prefer a range of colors for winter wear.. I like the Cabelas Jack shirts, they are fleece lined, and warm.. also not expensive. I would like to find myself a Forest Green one and put a BSA patch on the pocket and wear it in fact. I don't have any boys really interested in uniforming out in BSA wear. But if a practical winter uniform was developed then I'd be interested in getting it for my son, and myself.. I often wear civi clothes on Camp outs. I worked in an Outdoor Supply Store for 10 years here. M personal kit is ten times better then all of the troops kit. I'm the new Adult QM for the troop now. Anyway, I wear a New Zealand forest Green shirt on camp outs with Falljerken trousers.. these are European brands.. and they are expensive, but they are made for the outdoors. In fact I also wear Norrona Forest Green Gortex Hunting trousers on all winter outings. They have a layer of material on them that doesn't make any noise.. Well.. I would like to see a color change to the Jack Shirt.. They got rid of the Red on the Uniforms, so why not.. On the last TAC Klondyke.. many of the adults were wearing Jeans in the show.. or military kit.. I think that it's about time the BSA got with it, and updated it's winter kit..

  2. I have one of the newer Jack Shirts.. I like it, but find it a bit too light on the material.. I would prefer a thinker wool.. In fact i would prefer a 100% wool version..

I do tend to wear it mostly to Scout Meetings.. It's a bit too cold here to rally wear it in the Winter outdoors.. but i plan to wear it more when the season gets warmer..

I did see a version that is made thinker, and has lower hand pockets.. I liked it but it cost almost 170 bucks???

  3. I don't mind the new uniform. I do think that making it in the USA would have been a better idea.. But the layout isn't bad. I have the light weight long sleeve, and the heavier short sleeve versions. I also have the Switchback pants, but don't really like the cut of them.. I have two pairs of the older trousers and have been wearing those to meetings, but in the field wear the Switchbacks.. they are light weight, and will dry faster. I don't like the velcro closers on the shirt pockets.. I would prefer buttons all around..

One interesting thing I saw at Kandersteg last month was that many Military based TAC troops were using Velcro on the shoulders, and pockets to attach patches.. The reason behind this was due to the fact that boys were moving around so much, that they were changing Troops every 3 years. or less. and Adults were using the same shirts for different troops and functions they were working with. I do like the idea of having Velcro Rank for the Scout uniforms.. My son has gone from Scout to 2nd Class in 6 months.. will new his new rank this March at the CoH. So It would help out a bit with sewing on the new ranks.. also I like the idea of having velcro on the right side pocket because of the different events patches like Council patches, Kandersteg etc.. that comes along often, and the boys seem to like to change patches as they get them.. also by making velcro on the uniform through out would make it easier for the boys to get their uniforms together over here.. Sewing a uniform up here in CH, costs an arm and a leg..

  4. In the Army we had a little saying for this.. Proper, Planning, Prevents, P..., Poor Performance.

Anyway, I even looked up the Historical Badges on the link they give:

And this link doesn't have any information about the badges...

Would like for my boys to get a chance to work on these sooner rather then one month before the end of 2010...

  5. Have to agree with what's already been said. One thing I see from my Troop is that some of the Scout Leaders don't take their jobs seriously. That is starting rom the Adults down to the PLs, & APLs. I find myself the only ASM showing up to meetings wearing a uniform, and talking with the boys about leadership. I had a situation this past weekend where we were in a small Mountain Chalet, and the SPL, and ASPL were cooking up breakfast first, and the other boys were running late getting things done. I took the SPL aside, and let him know that he as a Leader should never eat first. He should make sure that the younger boys are first to eat, and that he as myself should always be last.. same as the PLCs, the SM isn't as serious as I believe a SM should be.. he's a great guy, but due to the fact that he's not an American, it seems that he doesn't take the BSA serious, and the boys see this and follow his lead.. I don't know how to fix this.. but I know that I am up to take over from him at the end of Summer, but there is a fear that I am too serious about the job to lead.. anyway.. that's one problem I see.

  6. Hello everyone.. I've been trying to join up on this forum for months now, and finally it let me in???

Anyway, I was myself a Cub, and Scout. While I was stationed in Germany in the early 90's I got back into Scouting as an ASM at the local Wurzburg Troop. I think it was Troop 67?? anyway, after two years there, I returned to the States where I was stationed at Bragg, and after getting out, moved here to Switzerland with my Wife who works for the UN. We now have children, and my Son is 11.. I finally had the time to get him invloved due to the distance of the troop from my home.. 35 kms away, and after his first meeting, they roped me back in to help.. I've been an ASM now for 6 months, and have been very much involved in the Troop. Besides Kandersteg, and the TAC Klondyke in Jan. our Troop did a Winter Snow Hole and Cabaine outing last weekend.. was a great time.. I will be attending TACs next Woodbadge Course this August, and am really looking forward to it..
